Dinner Party Menu Suggestions

Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the mundane I forget how fun it is to have real conversation with new or challenging topics. It's been so long, I'm feeling a bit brain dead.

So to counteract my dead head syndrome I invited 4 couples to our home for dinner Saturday night. The idea was to invite people we know but who are not part of our day to day social circle. All of the people involved are individually unique and willing to share their thoughts. It will be a fun evening.

Meanwhile, it's been such a long time since I've done a sit down dinner, I'm blank on the menu. Suggestions please....... appetizers to desert, what has worked for you??????

Good luck coming up with something!!

I'm better at helping find recipes than planning menus when I don't know what you like or your guests... but here are 3 desserts I make A LOT for company that are ALWAYS a bit hit!

My takes a few minutes blueberry jello pie (takes nothing like you'd imagine and women esp like it)

And a favorite for men, turtle cheesecake

Hi,
I just had a dinner party for eight this past Saturday night. My menu was as follows:
Organic Spring Greens salad with dried cranberries, walnuts and balsamic dressing
London Broil (5Lbs, this group is big eaters and it was on sale for $1.99 a pound) marinated with french dressing
Steamed Harcourt green beans with almond slivers
Homemade scallop potatoes (made ahead of time and re-heated)
Homemade chocolate mousse (very easy to make)
Homemade Angel Lush cake (this is for the diabetics in the group and is a real hit when I make it)
Red and white wine
Coffee and Tea

Hope this gives you some ideas

Yum! My favorite salad.

The London Broil sounds wonderful, I've never heard of marinating in French dressing. How long and what brand dressing?

I decided to begin and end the dinner with a bang. Instead of just salad, Lobster Parfait. Small bites of lobster mixed with fresh greens and herbs with a very lite avacodo dressing.

Still don't know what the meat will be but veggies and potatoes will be simple. Maybe baked asparagus with garlic and hasselback potatoes.

Then to finish big, Coeur a la Creme with Raspberry Coulis. Light, tasty and the right color for the holiday.

I'm thinking a nice pinot gris with the parfait and a Chateau St. Michelle Cabernet for dinner.

Now that I have the beginning and end, I'm still baffeled on the middle. :?
The cabernet screams red meat to me; beef or lamb. This time of year a nice beef stew with veggies, but then the asparagus would be over kill. A roast is always good, can you swing a tenderloin.....under crust? Of course with lamb either lamb or chops. I'd rather leg as it can sit, tented while to entertain and welcome guests.

The Pinot Gris is lighter so thinking seafood, lobster par is ideal there. Also salmom...smoked rather like a brushetta on toast with the extras.....yum. I'm not saying there's anying wrong with the lobster  just another thought.

Desert is delightful and perfect for Valentine's time.

Enjoy!
I try to marinate the london broil all day. I usually use Wishbone French Dressing, but any brand works. Brush both sides of the meat with the dressing. It is delicious. A favorite meal around here.

Well it only took two days but finally decided on the menu.
Pear, Spring Greens and Blue Cheese Salad
Filet of Beef au Poivre
Halibut Picatta
Baked Garlic Asperagus
Potatoes Au Gratin with Fennel and Bacon
Fresh Crusty Bread
Coeur a la Creme with Raspberry Coulis

Appropriate corresponding wines

Simple stuff to make but I will look like a one arm juggler trying to make it all hit the table at the right time and temp. :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
That sounds very fancy!! I really really miss halibut. Mmmm.... I'm flying over to your place. :)

More than welcome to join us. The halibut and a few salmon steaks arrived on my door step about 3 days ago from a neighbor that went fishing in Alaska. I was thrilled, can't get decent fish here.
