sheepdog or hunting dog

10 month old Oliver goes nuts when he sees a squirrel(no pun intended) I can barely hold him. Anyone else have this problem. Also I have his litter mate Harry and they are constantly roughing and toughing when I walk them together. Outside of having to walk them separately)meaning I take about 10 walks a day myself) any suggestions. Do they ever calm down

My dogs go crazy when they see squirrels, possums, raccoons, etc. I just think that is how dogs are wired.

I have two OES and they walk well together. Have you done loose leash training? That helps more than you can imagine!
Put prong collars on bothof them whenyou walk them together. They soon learn not to pull.
what is loose leash training
i could never walk my 2 if they didn't have on their gentle leaders
My dogs toatally have always ignored all cats, squirrels and bunnies on walks - now other dogs and people.......

But yes - Marilyn is correct they can be trained to ignore everything else and walk politely.

2nd that - I can walk several of mine at a time without getting pulled/dragged. That's the benefit of training your dog!

Loose leash walking is a method commonly used by trainers. It's a method to use when your dog begins to pull, you root yourself to the ground and do not move until the lead slackens. Every time your dog pulls, you stop and don't move till the leash is loose. After awhile, your dog will realize that to go anywhere, they have to walk with you.

Asterisk picked up on it very quickly.
I can walk Tonks and Luna together; though its still a bit of work sometimes. We practice heeling the whole way. Luna is SO good at it, and Tonks always wants to be in the lead.

When I had my big boy Quin...I kept a loose leash..
If he pulled I turned around until we were dizzy..

It was ALOT of work...

Quin went from a wild, crazy rescue dog to my best boy!
He was going to compete in Obedience before he developed
Lymphoma..

I walked him many times daily and we worked on the pulling!

I was at a park one day withe three sheepies...my two big boys and
Kissy gal..
That was a challenge...
The boys were both about 115 pounds each and she was a small 70lbs.

I was so impressed we had gotten to that point where I coud walk them all
together!!!

It is work though....
