Sheepdog shot in South Bend Indiana

The poor sheepdog, Linus, that was shot during a Home burglary in South Bend Indiana----The owner jsut posted this on facebook

SBPD recently arrested 2 people during a separate burglary & found the gun that was used to kill our beloved OES Linus. At this point the 2 suspects are in jail pending trial for that burglary. Currently there is not solid prosecutable evidence in the case against these 2 suspects in regard to Linus's murder. We are st...ill looking for someone to come forward with evidence on the person who actually shot Linus.

Hopefully they pin the crime on these slugs or find out who did it and well you can fill in the blanks what I want done to the A$$holes that would kill a sheepdog.

Seems to me a ballistics test would prove the bullet(s) used against Linus match the gun they recovered from the suspects.
I don't believe it is a felony to shoot a dog.....at least in most areas. No ballistic tests will be run.

Of course I consider them both equally guilty and should be ....... well, this is a family site.
I think if they found the gun, that they may have done a ballistics test. They just don't have proof that the guys they arrested for the current crime were the same ones who killed him...just that the gun was used by someone.
I thought it was pretty much a done deal if you're a person in possession of a gun used in a crime.
I guess they could say they found it or someone sold it to them. A criminal defense lawyer would have plenty of stories. I just hope they put them in the animal loving cell block!!!
Doing the ballistics test could tie them to the first burglary (and perhaps an animal cruelty charge).
Sounds like they need to find evidence of what possibley was taken from the first burglery where the shooting took place, then tie the two together with the gun................or just shoot em,
Isn't shooting a dog considered abuse???? I would think that because they had the gun in their possession that that would be enough to at least charge them. If they didn't shoot Linus they would give up the person who gave them the gun if it was them versus their friend.

I always watch that animal planet and I thought they had gone after people for shooting animals.
Maybe they didn't even run a ballistics test?
The suspected burglars/killers have been captured and are going to court.

I would go ballistic.
I hope they get the book thrown at them that an a jail sentence. Anyone else want to toss a book at the ?!*#!!?*! maybe a nice heavy dictionary, a couple of law books and anything else that might knock some sense into those two.
On the plus side they have adopted a rescue OES girl named Sadie. Linus sent them an Angel to help them heal.
The link wouldn't work to the new story - all I found was this the news station posted on May 19th:

The case continues Wednesday for a sheepdog shot and killed during a home burglary.

It took months of investigating, but in April police put two people behind bars in connection with the South Bend crime. Police arrested 20-year-old Brett Walker-Humphrey and a juvenile. The two are charged with burglary and animal cruelty.

Back in November, Dan Warner's house was burglarized and Warner's old English Sheepdog Linus was shot and killed.

Warner launched a grass roots effort to help find those responsible. Tips led to the arrests.

The juvenile was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, but that date will be reset. He wasn't able to be transported in time to make his appearance. The prosecutor's office hopes to charge the suspect as an adult.

The juvenile's name will be released if that decision is made.
They found the person who did it!!! And 18 year old, and found guilty today after a jury deliberated for all of 15 minutes. He could get 26 years in prison!!!!!

The details are here: http://www.wsbt.com/news/wsbt-teen-guil ... 1890.story
Good for the prosecutors who took this to trial without making a deal! 26 years is not enough --but a good start! Hope he gets the max!
How sad
How can people do something like this to a dog ! :(
Good thing tho that they found the sick man !
26 years!
He'll hopefully learn a lesson there!
one down, one to go ! i hope the two ba!#%*ds both serve long sentences!
May they spend a very long and miserable incarceration with many big mean animal lovers.
It was great that Dan and Sandy had this little bit of closure for the Thanksgiving holiday. They are two of the nicest people you could ever meet.

We're watching closely to see what the sentence will amount to and if the accomplice gets the same verdict. If these guys get off the hook they should be turned loose to let all animal lovers deal with them.   That would be worth a trip to South Bend. Muhahahah!!!!
