First Trip to the Dog Park!

Sp, we finally decided that he could go as far as the dog park with out throwing up in the car so today, a beautiful day, we decided to head on out. Boy am I sorry I didn't bring the camera.

First of all, there must have been 25 dogs there. All sorts of breeds. Pooh's first friend was a Great Dane. 190 pounds, seal gray. So friendly. He took his lickings since he was low man on the totem pole, but did ok. Then, Buddy arrived. Buddy's an OES, and then 2 more! 3 OES and Pooh. It was funny to see the 4 of them together because Pooh kept wanting to be near them...probably didn't know why!

So, next trip, the camera comes with me! I told Buddy's owner about this site, so David, if you are on now, good to meet you!

Wow, so many OES, that's great! Danes are sweeties too so it seems like Pooh knows how to pick his friends!

Glad your trip in the car went well too. Frank and I started agility class last Monday which is about 10 minutes farther than we have been on our travel sickness conditioning rides. Well the ride there we had our usual loose bowell as soon as we got out of the car which is typical and now that he has short hair certainly makes cleaning up easier. But then on the ride home he peed all over the back seat of the car including in the cup holders. I feel that we went completely backward.

So from now on he's going to be crated in the car. My vet originally told me that would make his anxiety worse since he wasn't crate-trained but at least clean up will be easier for any more pee or vomit episodes. I'm so bummed.... we want to take our dog everywhere with us.
Us too....it takes time. Very short trips to fun places is what we are working on now. As soon as he wakes up from his nap we're going back ove rto the dog park.
Hi,

Wow sounds like Pooh had a fantastic time!!! Friends and fun..you couldn't ask for better and I suspect he may after a few times of going there ..know exactly where you are going when he goes in the car which will make it a little easier.

Verve up..Poor Frank and of course you! I'm sorry to hear you are having troubles. Have you thought of perhaps getting Frank daily in the car for just a trip around the block and having it end successfully. Then increase the time each day..2 blocks...3 blocks...it may relieve a bit of his anxiety and get him more used to the car. Perhaps a Kong or chew toy and if it's just a block it won't be enough time for him to have an accident, possibly but will be successful.

Good Luck!

That sounds like so much fun Josh! I would love to do that.... I don't know why we don't have any dog parks, but there are a lot of dogs in this town. Almost everyone I know has at least one, and many do have 2 or 3, one friend has 5. Maybe someday.....
Does Pooh get car sick often? If he looks forward to the park it might clear up the problem for you. Some dogs just get scared because the last experience was a bad one, but if it can be followed by good times, then then the fear of car riding goes away.

I don't know about Pooh, but if he is like Remy he will be howling with excitement to go and play.
We only have to say to Chelsea: "Chelsea go play with the puppies?" and she knows it's time to hop in the car and go to the dog park!

I'm glad Pooh had so much fun, his tummy must be all healed up and he's feeling good!

We are the only OES at our park, she is the showstopper, but she only has to jump up on some 50-something person ( to steal a kiss) and then she is the pariah of the dog park! (stuffy ageing yuppies) Ahhhhh, back to the training circle!

Up.
Isn't exciting to take them to the dog park for the first time and it go great!! I was so nervous the first few times we took Jack and Annabelle. I was afraid that they might get hurt or that all of a sudden we would see dog aggression in them or that we would never get them to come back to us to go home....LOL All of my worries quickly vanished and they were perfect!!! They play well with all of the dogs and love the pond that is there. Annabelle just loves the agility course there and likes to show off. Jack loves the tunnel, but hates all of the rest of the course. I don't think he likes heights either.
I am so glad Pooh had a great time! I do hope his car sickness gets better.
