Does This Make Any Sense to Anyone??

My niece & I both want Old English Sheepdog puppies and have been researching separately. Neither of us wants to support a puppy mill in any way! She found a breeder on-line with a nice enough site who appears to be something between a BYB and something better. They talked on the phone and my niece put a deposit on a four week old puppy.

When she got updated pics of her pup, I suggested she ask for pics of the whole litter (total of 4) together. The breeder responded, "I will try but they aren't all together at one time plus they are pretty big now so they don't fit in a picture." (HUH?)

The puppies are 5 weeks old now. This seems like a HUGE red flag to me! Please share your thoughts with us. Am I just being too cautious?

You can never be too cautious in my opinion.
No, you are not being to cautious. But perhaps the breeder doesn't have anyone else at home to help her when she takes pictures. 4 puppies at that age can be scrambling & wiggling around pretty much. Maybe she can get someone else to take the picture while she puts a towel on a table & puts all the puppies up there at once? Or maybe get 4 neighbor kids to come in, sit down & hold the puppies....lined up. I remember doing so with my 4 grandkids & me with one litter of 5 puppies we had at 5 weeks of age. We all sat on the floor & eachone held a puppy. Did the same with a litter of 7 a couple years later. Took 5 of us to do that one plus the camera lady!.

I'm curious, what do you mean by "between a BYB & something better"?
With all the help on this site, why not ask someone in YOUR part of the country, world or state, and just maybe they can direct you to a place that find you the perfect puppy............best of luck with OES.
Please pm me, I hope it is not the lady about a mile away from me who Grannie Annie ends up with alot of her dogs. You can let me know where she is and if it is her you better run in the opposite direction :!:
Here are some pictures of puppies that I took all by myself! The first picture are of pups that are 5 weeks. As you can see by the last two photos (these pups are 7 weeks old) I put them in an x-pen to take photos of them together only because I was home alone and wanted to get a few shots. So no excuse!!

ack! they are so cute!!
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh blueshire. how beautiful! ok send them all here!
Those pups in the basket are almost 2 years old now. These were pictures from older litters.
It makes me wonder how she's keeping these pups if they aren't all together.

I can get 430+ pounds of dogs into one picture- http://oesusa.com/Christmas2009.jpg Surely she can fit 4 little pups into one shot. Suggest she back away from them. At feeding time, she should easily be able to take a picture of them all together nursing off mama or around a food bowl. I don't think anyone would be late for dinner

Sorry off subject BUT, Bumbles looks so big next to the girls...
Completely no sense to me whatsoever that she cant send a picture of only 4 puppies together, red flag in my opinion. Even if idividual photos of all 4 at least it is something to go by as to how each one is in the litter. Easy for group shots of the whole litter as well as individual photos of each and everyone to go to you to be able to see especially if you cannot view the litter because of distance.

If we can get 10 adult sheepies in a photo then 4 puppies should be a piece of cake to get.

Even if she has them in a puppy pen or just in a confined area playing then surely she can send a group photo of all 4 of them for you to see.
wow so beautiful!

Wow Now that's a picture :hearts: Looks like Heaven to me.
Wow how old are all those sheepies and was this at a show??? So totally awsome! :D I want them all!
Hi traci they range in age from 3 up to 12, not at a show, they all go back to a sire in the UK, his kids, grandkids and great gran ones too. All champions.

Funny thing was after back in the old days before digital cameras, after getting the whole roll of film developed, it was the very first photo on the roll that we used.. Fun day with 10 sheepies posing and one breaks the pose all 10 headed off in 10 different directions.

Puppies are way easier to get group shots with

Lisa, Sunny and took a pic of four littermates once. They were two years old by then. Shouldn't have been that hard!

I had half a roll of Sunny butt shots as she kept having to go in and fix someone. Finally the lone boy dog got fed up and rolled on his back and refused to sit up and in the mean time his sisters, who had HAD it, finally gave up all pretense of ever having heard the command stay and all got up and stalked off in great disgust as if on cue.

We did end up with a DECENT pic for their breeder. But wonderful it is not.

Ten! I can't even imagine. 8O

Great pic.

I have a picture from a friend from years ago of 11 Shelties with Santa Clause! The first thing I asked was HOW did you do this & how long did it take???? She said 2 other breeders were involved (she's not a breeder) so there were 3 adults there & the dogs were all theirs. She said it took less than 5 minutes & all you heard was dogs' names followed by "sit, stay"! Even Santa was impressed!
