Best stripping tool?

Please forgive the lengthy post..........................

Now that Loki is in full coat 8O I'm understanding the need to thin out the undercoat. He's not matted, but it takes an hour a day to keep it that way. I'm planning to trim him back to 5-6 inches all over - He's at 10 inches now and he's starting to look like an Afghan hound.

My question is: Which tool is the best? He really needs to be thinned out on his neck and face - He's starting to look really odd. I brush every day and line groom once a week, baths are every two to three weeks.

I've never used any kind of stripping tool, so it's a little scary for me. I have a good rake (which is really not getting it done now) and good brushes: CC 27mm pin and wood pin (which rocks for every day - no static :D), Hindes slicker, comb, etc.
I've seen many recommendations for the Mars Coat King - or stripping knife? I assume there are instructions included with the tool, but I would appreciate any tips from the experts.

I have a Mars Coat King. It did not come with instructions, neither did my other stripping tool which is like a rake, only v-shaped. I have no idea how to use either of them, I need someone to actually show me because the Mars took huge chunks of hair out & left the chest with deep dents in. He was completely mat free when I did it. That was a year ago & it still looks horrid -so be warned :(
The biggest thing is going with the length and lay of the hair. It sounds like you cut down across the hair.
You need to lift up the coat & strip underneath that section, going in the direction of the coat growth. Let another narrow layer of hair down & do the same until you have reached the top.
Very concise description!

Thanks Dawn! Also very hard on these old arms! Or maybe it's just that I have a "hair factory" for a dog:lol:

No, I think it is hard - now. When I was doing it all the time I was in better shape in the arms. Now that he has shorter hair I can tell the difference. I went to strip out some of the shoulder/front end density recently and I thought my arms were going to fall off!

Perfect! Even I can't screw that up
