Puppy Herding Instincts Help

We brought our new puppy home just a few days ago and we've already noticed some herding instincts! He's about 9 weeks old and Basil loves to take all of his toys and carry them under the dining room table, where he keeps them all in a nice little pile. That's not too bad. . .but there's one more, and please let me know if anyone else's puppy has done this. . .he'll take a toy from under the table and walk from the dining room, through the living room to the door we let him go out to do his business. He sits at the door for a second or two, with the toy, then takes the exact same path back to the dining room table, then back again to the door. He did this over and over, maybe 30 times and few nights ago until we finally distracted him with something else. (Note: he had gone outside to do his business not long before, so I don't think that was a factor.) I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced behavior like this and if its something we need to be watchful of. Also, if this is something he's doing because he needs more activities or stimulation from us, are there some good activities for his age? He's picking up things pretty quickly, but he's still so young, I just want to make sure we're doing the right things for him!

Thank you for any guidance!!

For our home, that's nothing abnormal. Our oldest dog is a pacer ...and as a puppy always hoarded toys. Had to keep them in the same place ...wherever that designated place was. Now she doesn't care about the toys and has moved on to humans and pets. They have to be going at a normal pace or she goes crazy.
Frankie does the same thing. He's 9 months old has done it since we got him. He has certain babies I call them that he paces around with and wants to take outside. If we don't let him go out he will get on the couch and do what I think looks like nursing. He kneads and sucks on the nose of his favorite toy.

9 weeks old is very young. It doesn't take too much to stimluate at that age. Sounds like he has a special toy that he likes to carry. Both my dogs still have their first "baby toy" from when they came home and to this day they sleep with it and never chew it up.

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about. As far as giving more attention, that never hurts with a young pup!!! He should be sleeping alot too. Enjoy him now. They grow up so fast!

RON...couldn't log in again as myself so I had to get in as a guest ( Ashley)
Chauncey will usually pace with high value treats or bones before burying them in the sofa, behind something, or...well you get the point. All we have to say after he stops pacing is we know where ( whatever ) is, he will go get & move it somewhere else   Chauncey does have a place for his toys & is okay with them being there when he isn't playing with them. But this place is where his toys where kept from day one. But he does have that one special toy. BTW: Chauncey is 4 now.
Seems like your little one has picked someplace safe and sound....under the table.
I was thinking you could shape that instinct into a desirable behavior, like putting toys away in the basket. Is that a bad thing to do? Not putting the toys away, I mean honing that instinct. Ecco does this too. She has a spot in the yard already that she likes to take toys to and play with them. She doesn't guard them, though, like my Rottie used to do. She just seems to enjoy being organized.
When Chauncey leaves his toys in the middle of a room we will pick them up and put them in his crock in the family room. They are always there, unless he has for some reason burried it
Sounds like Basil is a baby that is going to need a job!
They typically do better with more stimulation!
If it were me, I would start looking for a trainer...
Sounds like you have a fun baby on your hands!
Good Luck!
