Which brush...

I have seen a multitude of recommendations for the 27mm pin brsh from CC but-forgive my ignorance-but which one :?: :?: :?: I have searched the forum and websites and the ends of the earth and probably looked right past it but if anyone could help I am trying to order some supplies...and Frankie's hair is thick

Get the oval one or the pocket one. The thinner ones have fewer bristles and, the more surface area that you can cover, the better.
We just received our CC 27 mm Gold Brush yesterday, after having read Butterstoch's recommendation. . Bailee seems to like it (so far.) Also love the Mars Coat King (medium)
I love the CC wood brush, very sturdy and the pins don't bend.
Thanks everybody! Frankie's hair is a whole different set up in thickness than our last girl francis and the brush we had for her is just basically an exercise in futility. I'm ordering the the oval i think. Thanks again! :)

I'm with you on that brush!!!! Tonks is sensitive to being brushed and that one doesn't even phase her. And even funnier; the cats love it! I start to brush the dogs and my one cat will come over and try and get her head between the brush and the dog!!!
^^^^^^^^
I cant imagine my siamese EVER coming near a brush.
It is a great brush. I got my first one over a year ago. I have two of them - one of which is going to be replaced this weekend. Just one cautionary note, though. I have learned to be careful to do short fast strokes with the longer pinned brushes because if you are overly aggressive the pins on the outside can bend pretty easily.

But it is a great brush and very non-aggressive (doesn't yank coat.)

Anyone tried the wooden pinned brush?

sorry; I thought that's what was meant by "wooden brush". Yes, i have the wooden pinned brush and love it.
Oh thanks so much! I completely missed that post. So I will add the wooden pin brush to the weekend's shopping list.

With a full coat, having so many brushes isn't excessive is it?
(That's my story and I am sticking to it!)
for my girls, I use the wooden pin brush, a CC slicker, 2 combs, and 2 different mat rakes. I have three different detangling sprays (well I had to try them all to compare against one another, didn't I?) and Cowboy Magic's detangling goop as well. And I want another comb from CC, a larger slicker from them, and the gold pin brush. So no, I don't think whatever you are buying is excessive!

Hmmmmmmm Which mat rakes do you use? I have two matt breakers but I've always used the rake to thin the undercoat, not necessarily for matts. I'm always on the prowl for better tools.
Ah yes! A kindred spirit indeed.

I have a couple of different lengths of the antistatic gold pin brushes. I have found the 27mm is really more brush than I need. And it is an accident waitng to happen when you are workng on mats. Of course, the pins do bend more easily. So I am buying a couple more of the the next one down. I believe it's a 3/4". A friend has 3 sheepies in full Show coat - these dogs are wooly mammoths - after 6 months she has convinced me that less is more!

However I am with you. I think testing products is essential!
When I went to the CC seminar Eric said that the metal pin brushes should only be used for "fluffing". For line brushing he said the wooden pin brush is all that should be used. I have been using the wooden pin brush now for 7 months on my show coats and I love it.
I was at a groomers event here in Atlanta last year. One of the reps at the CC booth personally recommended the wooden pin brush to me for Tonks and Luna. He had a piece of faux fur that was very similar to OES coat, and showed me how nicely it pulled through without pulling out the coat. I was sold.

Does it come in multiple pin lengths like the metal ones, or just one size?
to my knowledge its just the one size. I recommended it to my friend Fiona that also has an OES and she ordered hers and seems to like it very much. She keeps her dog Sunshine in a puppy cut year round, and the wooden pin brush glides right through it.
I'll have to see if a vendor has one this weekend and test it out. I'm in the market to replace some brushes.

Thank you so much! Great to learn.

Many thanks. I will be buying one tomorrow!

Could be why I went through so many CC metal pin brushes.

I can't imagine the wooden ones aren't too harsh on the coat though.

I have been using the Maden brush since September and it is amazing! much softer and the pins don't ever bend. Marley even has some undercoat these days
Can anyone recommend a good site to purchase the wooden brush? I would like to give it a try. Thanks!
I think cherrybrook.com has them

What is the maden brush? can you show us a link to it online? the wooden pins are smoothed, not rough, so it sails through the coat without pulling a whole lot out.
Thanks so much for the Cherrybrook.com recommendation. I think they have a couple of wooden brushes that might work and make Daphne think that I am not torturing her! She tries to hide whenever I take out my fine tooth metal comb!

sorry spelt it wrong. Madan brush. I was told to get the blue (the softness is different by color) was shown a dark blue, ordered light blue because it was the only blue available and was sent orange (which is my current "color" but Huh??) they said it was the same as the light blue and I have to say I really like it.

I just ordered a pink Madan brush for Daphne from E-Bay. They have several for a "BUY IT NOW" price of $15.99. They seem to have most of the color choices in stock. The shipping was very reasonable so I think this is a good deal. :cow: :cow:
what hardness is the pink? you want a very soft brush if you don't want to take undercoat out or break hair
It is medium. Is that okay? I
I was wrong in my last post about the brush being medium. It is a soft one. I just breathed a huge sigh of relief! It is great to have all of this forum's knowledge w/Daphne being my first sheepie. I would not have a clue w/o this forum's support. Thanks again to everyone!!
"Miss Daphne" and Beth :hearts:
is there someplace to find a list of the colors and their corresponding hardnesses?
I did get the CC wooden pin brush this weekend. It is the A 040.
It brushes nicely. :D

and a picture that shows the other side - why would we want to see only the colored backs??

doesn't it? I know its not taking any mats out. But for a brush through, its really ideal for us. Tonks is so sensitive to wire slickers, she just plain dislikes them. She actually relaxes into the brushing with the wooden pin brush.

I got one too, against the advice of my breeder and a Top Twenty Owner Breeder Handler. They thought it would pull coat. It was an interesting discussion with the CC rep. 8O Once I ran it through my dog's coat, I understood the application. My dog runs in fields and always finds burrs. I will try it for a while - what the heck, it's winter and growing coat is easier.

I also got a couple of Fusion brushes. I bought a 20mm. And they had this killer cherry wood Fusion. It must be new, as it is not on the CC site. It has the same oval size head as the large brush, but the handle is shorter and built up so it makes it so much more comfortable in your hands and the quality of the craftsmanship is yummy. It is a 27mm and the shorter handle will make it great in the ring . I sure like the feel of this brush in my hand.
:excited:
I found this site about the Maden brushes. It tells you about the level of firmness that goes w/the colorhttp://www.laineeltd.com/cgi-bin/l ... _image=pin
Sorry, the site I tried to post before about the Maden brushes does not seem to work.
