I know a lot of folks are very creative with kennel names but I'm curious how many people use that creativity for the pack that won't see the show ring.

I had a cockatiell named Kathyrn Hepbird and a lab/st bernard mix that was Susan St. Bernard (you have to be a bit older to get that one) and my Pyr was Doogie Bowser. I have a cat named Becker after Arnie Becker in LA Law (the cat is blonde, blue eyed and gets by on looks only, if you know what I mean).

Well, we weren't very clever, really, but we started naming our cats after Simpsons characters.

First, there was Lenny. Next was Mrs. Crabapple aka Kirby. Then there was Barney (the sheepie, obviously!).

I was never very good at naming things. All my stuffed animals were Sharky the Shark. Bear the Bear. Lamby the Lamb...
^^ love the theme esp. crabapple. Perfect for the typical cat.

I think with a name like Mequss'uk ...I definitely get put in the strange category. The look on peoples faces ESPECIALLY those that have to say it b/c they're grooming or taking care of him are priceless. My family still can't say his name so say the puppy, the boy dog, or the other one...

I love it although on the flip side, I HATE when I hear a name I can't pronounce. BTW, we call him ko-buck, so I'm not sure why family members still find it complicated.

It means shaggy dog for the new members scratching their heads.
Not to original with our namings , our first OES was named Sheba when we got her at 6 mos. and our next OES we registered him as Dudley, Duke of Earl cause Earl is our last name and Dutch is reg. as Fuzzibutts Duchess of Earl and as I could not think of something that seemed to suit her we just call her Dutch. Our GSD was called Hitchiker because son and I found him and 2 of his sisters wandering the hiway , they were about 1 month old, someone had broken into the owners home and let all the puppies and Mom loose and they found all but the 3 .The owner said that he would like us to have one as a thankyou so we took Hitch  Our next GSD we called Shadow and that was so appropriate because she would not leave me nor allow anyone near me.
I knew when I registered Owen that I wanted a Seinfeld name but if I could get his call name in there, even better. He was named after a catchphrase from the episode called "The Contest." If you watch the show, you'll know it!

Ch Ken-Bear's Master of His Owen Domain. :)
I'm very unimaginative with names. So Rastus (dalmo), Tiggy (sheepie) and Rowdy (siamese cat).

I love Dawn's lab's name, Biscuit and I also love Trousers. Both cute and different. I wish I was more imaginative.
My sister just hand raised two lambs that the mother regected and she named them "Lamb Chop" & "Roast" It's hillarious hearing her call them from across the paddock. :? They come to those names too

No there not ending up in the oven 8)

don't forget "Sofa" another member's sheepie name...different and cute.
I fully understand Susan St. Bernard and consider it an insult to the breed

Anyway, up until recently all names had to be indicative of the breed's heritage, names associated with the region: Siberian was Sonya, St.B was Basil, OES were Maudie and Crumpet, Irish Wolfhound was Clancy, etc.

Then I hit the movie "shouts": Stelllllla, (hey) Abbotttttt, and (come back) Shane.

After than I became un-creative and pretty much went with names they arrived with; Glacier and Simone, or simple people names like Jack and Harry and Fox (X Files, though he did have a fox face).

Too early, I can't remember other dogs' names..............Chad the Beardie (right after the Hanging Chad election...........????)

I feel the same way. I named my siamese, Potato because when he was curled up as a kitten - he looked like a baked potato. Now we cant eat potatoes without thinking about him.

I had an english cocker named Sherlock. I love England so I named London after London and even though Tony was already named - I added Blair after Tony Blair. :) Although my husband calls him Tony Little after the fitness guru because he had short legs and long hair.
our first dog, a golden retriever, we got when we were 6..parents named her Muffy...typical name for a Grosse Pointe dog.....

Then our second golden my mom named after her favorite perfume...channel #5...

Then there was Charlie the terror....a mix of teacup poodle and lassa...evil dog if i ever saw one.......

then of course there is panda (pandemonium)...suits her perfectly...and if i ever get another sheepie...his name would be Havoc! 8)
Brick's name came about kinda strangely.
When my ex g/f first told me she wanted an airedale, I said; "isn't that the dog with a brick shaped head?" (I had no knowledge of airedales otherwise). She said enthusiastically, "yeah!!"

So we began looking at pups at different breeders and finally picked one from a breeder near Memphis, TN.
The whole way home, we were tossing names back & forth. Some of the ones I gave were kinda obvious (and therefore cliche-ish) like, Terry (for terrier) or Dale (from airedale; I said if we got another one, we could name him Chip). She didn't like those. So I started looking at his phisical traits. Airedales are black & tan, so I threw out Guiness. Didn't stick. There were several other names that I can't even remember.

So we get home (17 hours later) and he still doesn't have a name.
My ex was like, "I think we should name him Brick". I said "Brick? Are you kidding? Who names a dog Brick?" She said she couldn't forget when I asked if the airedale was the dog with the brick shaped head.

So Brick it was (actually she first said Brickhead but quickly agreed to shorten it).

Now, looking back, it's the perfect name for him. He is thick headed and stubborn and built like a brick ****house. I couldn't imagine calling him anything else.

He even has nicknames built around his name.
You've all heard of Don Rickles, now meet Don Brickles (actually, we call him Brickles quite often). Or Sir Mix A Lot becomes Sir Bricks A Lot.
And wasn't there a character in The Thornbirds named Father Brickeford? Of course any place where there's Ricky you can replace with Bricky (he gets called Bricky an awful lot, too.). My mother calls him Brickers.

Nothing special about Zeke's name. That was his name when we rescued him. Because he knew his name so well and came to it when we called, we decided not to change it.
It's difficult to come with cute altered names for him. Nothing really has the sound "eek" in it.
The only one I came up with is obscure.
There's a Japanese transmission manufacturer named Aisin Seikey. I changed that to Aisin Zeke-y.
He just has other nicknames like snowy (cuz of his white fur) or bubblebutt (because of his round butt), or my favorite, nibbles.
Zeke never will take any part of your body into his mouth like some dogs do. When he gets excited, he will pinch the skin of your arm between his front teeth and nibble on it, like he's eating an ear of corn. It pinches and it hurts, but it's funny.
We also call him Zekels (taking the "els" sound that we stuck onto Brick's name and sticking it to the end of Zeke's name). Ya know, for continuities' sake.
Mulligan is a rescue dog: a do-over.

But he came with the name! Perfect!
I think by now everyone knows my pets names.

Asterisk - OES
Hyphen - DLH cat
Ellipsis - DSH cat
Ampersand - DSH cat

Then of course, there is Pooh Bear (I wanted to change her name to Etcetera, but she was Josh's mother's cat, so that was a no). And of course, my wonderful Wendel, so named by his former owner, my breeder. His AKC name was Harley Wendel Watson.

I always thought "Brick" was a cool name for your dog. My Dad had a brother who's knickname was "Brick". I think it was because of the color of his hair, but don't know for sure. :D

My dogs have all come "pre-named"...but we had a pair of Koi fish named "Sushi" and "Sashimi" once
Cheyenne came from the humane society with her name, Finnigan is named after my grandfather whose nickname was Finney. It was only after the name was given that my uncle said they called my gramp that for being so finicky. Now, I know why they were both named Finney, very appropriately! The Cats are Gus and Ojo. My nephew named them after cartoon characters when he was 4 years old. We call Ojo, Josafeline, it is much more creative  and feminine.
Not so much creative as strange and slightly off-center:

I had a rabbit named 'Sherry' because, as my husband would say, "that is what she would go good with," and my thirteen pound cat was named Skinny (although this one is not odd because she was the skinny little runt of the litter when she was a baby).....

Even more off-center is the reasoning why Jackson is named Jackson. Lets just say her name has to do with a famous singer and the coat changes that a sheepie goes through....
We had a booz theme for awhile Bailey after baileys irish cream Jack after jack daniels and of course Guinness (yep my hubby is irish) them Molly came with the name molly and then the older GSD we got was such a big bruiser ,we named him bruiser (sons idea men geeze) then the leggy dobie/great dane mix I saved just looked like a Zeke. I guess the names just pop in my crazy mind.
Sadly, I can't take credit for Biscuit. 8) That one was all Todd's. He got him while I was at work and even had the name selected too before I got home.

We have Tipup (pronounced tip-up) the cat named after the ice fishing rigs - and yes, Todd named him too.

we have 2 rescue cockatiels, and one is Darby....we presume. They say "Darby is a pretty boy" - but don't know which one they are talking about!

On the common dog names list we have has 3 - Maggie (came with the name), Lucy and Daisy (twice - and both came with the name) - all 3 bassets.
I always said "if I ever get a horse his name will be Bob." So when it was time to get a horse, I looked for one who looked like his name should be Bob. The stupidest way to chose a horse, I must say. But it all worked out.
My two older cats were rescues; a stray had a litter in the basement of our local comic shop, and they were giving the kittens away. So one week I went in to get comics, and came home with cats. I named them for Batman's femme fatale Catwoman -Selina Kyle-- and Spiderman's femme fatale The Black Cat - Felicia Hardy. "Felicia" stuck, but my then boyfriend began calling Selina "the bald tailed, pink nosed, baby bibbed freak", and "Bibbers" stuck.

And just to keep the trend going, I named my third cat after a comic book character as well; Zatanna. Not very main-stream, but she was a member of the Justice League at one point.

My two OES sisters are named Tonks and Luna for the Harry Potter characters. I wanted to name them "Storm" and "Trooper" but got shot down.
Does Adam ever think that Storm and Trooper may have worked?

I often feel like I am in the middle of a storm when Tiggy is like a trooper storming the kitchen door at dinner time. :D 8O
Adam complained that Storm Troopers were too serious for such silly dogs. He did have a point....
I have wanted an OES for many years and had the name Chauncey picked out. I wanted a pompous Olde English name.
I'd love to add an Irish wolfhound to the mix ( I'm Irish/Welsh ) Bob says absolutely not, but I already have a name, and that logic has worked well for me before  So do you think he'd notice Molly in bed with the 3 of us????
I always loved the name "Muppet" 8) - I believe there are a few OES Muppets...
