Sorry my OES cards are so late.......

......but we had a rough holiday season. My father was diagnosed with late stage lung cancer the week of Thanksgiving, went into the hospital on Nov. 30, and passed away there on Christmas Eve. Some of you folks in the Chicagoland area might remember my dad, Oscar's Grandpa Fred, from SheepieFest. He just loved seeing all of the Sheepdogs there.

I am currently working on a New Year card, so I hope to get them out soon. It was great receiving all of the wonderful OES.ORG cards this year, as it gave us a little bright spot in an otherwise bleak Christmas season.

Here's hoping 2010 is a much better year............

Laurie

Oh no, that's terrible. I'm sorry for your loss :( ...and that this had to happen during the holidays. Hopefully your family is all together. I think we just want you to take care of yourself and family. I always just appreciate someone telling us that they've been unexpectedly busy rather than nothing at all. I am shocked you even have the energy to send cards. I wouldn't. Please know you're in my prayers..

Laurie, I am so very sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family during this terrible time. My best wishes for a happier 2010.
Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. Once he was diagnosed with cancer, everything happened so fast that I don't think we have our heads completely around it yet. He was only 67 years old, and extremely active, so this whole thing is still quite unreal.

Since my dad retired 12 years ago, he and my hubby had gotten very close. Angelo and my dad both loved doing projects together, and they were both crazy about golf. I used to joke that if Angelo and I got divorced, I would lose my dad in a custody battle! They did everything together, from little things like shopping for the Thanksgiving turkeys and processing tomatoes from the garden, to big things like gutting and rehabbing a house. They were best buds.

Because of my dad's macular degeneration, he moved in with us this past October. I'm so glad that happened, as we got to spend even more time with him, not knowing what was ahead.

I'm jealous of my siblings though, as they went back to their lives, which go on pretty much as normal, but Angelo and I now have this huge void. It just sucks. :(

Onward and upward though.........

Thanks again for all of your support.

Laurie
I suspect your siblings will have a different kind of void.
You will fill your void with all the memories of good times together.
I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. How nice he came to stay with you (my hubby and dad were great buddies too!!) It is always so hard to lose them young. You always wish for more time. You had a gift your siblings did not get ...Having him there with you. You will be in my thoughts

4dognight
So sorry for your loss Laurie. That is not enough time to have him with you, but be glad of the closeness you got to enjoy.
