Constantly wanting to go outside

Ok, I have a question..

Frankie constantly wants to go outside. We taught him to ring the bell when he has to potty. He rings the bell constantly. Paces and rings the bell.

What should I do? I don't want him to think he can constantly go out.
But what if he really has to go?

Help
I need some sanity

I don't use the bell, but I also like schedules. Helps when you have to keep one to get to work so you can buy the bulk meat ;)

I think you have to get to know your dog - and that is where the bell can be a detriment I think. I can tell when my dogs want to go out for a pee or a walk or just to play. If I am confused I have been known to ask them. Suprisingly they will respond when you get to the right thing. If its a playtime romp and its inconvenient they don't go out. If they have to pee - well by all means, although as they get older they can be expected to learn to hold on for a few minutes.
I don't know about your dogs, but now that the snow is on the ground and it's cold outside, my dogs will try to wake me at 2am, just to play in the snow.

They spend most of their evening when we're home outside now. I can't get them to stay inside for more than a half hour.

Maybe it's weather related.
Everytime he rings the bell, take him outside on his leash to do his thing. And then right back in. He will learn, hopefully very quickly, that ringing the bell is for going out and doing his business.

Let him out at times, not associated with the bell, that work for you. Always use the same words for playtime.
