Other great christmas presents!!

So what was your best Christmas gift (given or received?)

Since (as I tell my grown kids) its all about me (now), I'll share some of the great gifts I got. I got the Kindle DX - way cool!! and a Wii Fit along with some quilting items and other more practical gifts I wanted (robe, wallet etc)

Best gift was the kids (almost 32 and 26) being home and acting like kids playing Wii boxing, tennis and Mario cart :) Nice holiday all in all.

It's been an appliance Christmas around our house. Expensive but definitely not exciting.

First it was the washer that went out. Bought one of the new "HE" washers. They sound like a jet plane taking off. Weird. They take a different kind of detergent too, apparently so I had to chuck a full box of the old stuff. Of course, we had to have a dryer "to match", according to my wife. Why does it have to match? Apparently it does. The bill just doubled.

Then two days before Christmas the stupid wall oven/microwave crapped out after 20 years. It came with the house originally so I never had to buy one before. Wow. Expensive. And none of the current machines exactly fit the cut-out in the cabinets, so a little cabinet modification has to be done.

So this morning I'm trying to take out the old unit. They will pick it up but won't take it out. 200 lbs. Had to recruit my neighbor. Then I have to kick out three dogs that are underfoot (Kaylee is still over).

No money left over for more personal gifts. Not enough sleep these past few nights, and my back already hurts.

Ho ho ho. Merry Christmas.
The best gift I got was a glider rocker/ottoman from my kids - wanted it for our bedroom. SO comfy!

The best gifts we gave (according to their reactions) was a Tofu Express for my vegan daughter (she actually yelled when she opened it), a subscription to Gastronomica for our son's gf (she's a big time foodie and she squealed when she opened it), and the complete set of Planet Earth Blu-Rays (the originals made for the BBC) for our son.

And like Kerry, the best part was having everyone home, even if only for a short while.
I must have been a bad girl because Santa didn't bring me much. I'm most disappointed that my mom didn't get me anything (she usually gives me cash). More sad than disappointed because I think she forgot and that's showing her age (she'll be 89 next month). My mom's not old enough to be old.

However, my friend gave me a chocolate bacon bar. Dark milk chocolate with bits of bacon. Really rich and one little piece is very satisfying. She also gave me flannel pjs with gnomes on them.
Ordered myself a Kindle on Christmas afternoon. Santa didn't take the hint. Couldn't do the new big one, will have to make do with the smaller to see if I really love it. Won't come until end of January.

Clothing received was right size but all wrong colors. I'll make do. Once I'd like to have a coordinated outfit instead of whatever LandsEnd or LLBean has left in December. Just can't get the elf motivated to shop earlier. (I don't shop locally, I hyperventilate in stores)

Otherwise received a man's watch, told Santa to keep it for himself...and we'll look for something for me together. I'm a big girl, but don't need a giant man's watch

Was it the Vosges one? I bought those for everyone for Christmas, too!
Best gift lil J got was a real drum set. Of course it was given by someone other than us and we'll enjoy that lovely banging he does around the clock now.

Best gift Joshee according to him was a gingerbread cookie. The boy got some cool toys, and all he cared about was this cookie his grandma snuck in his stocking that they knew mom would hate.

Best gift Jillybear got was the giraffe I posted in the pictures section. She loves it so much.

Best gift daddy got was a new flat screen tv from his mom.

Best gift mommy got was having Christmas go so smoothly. Most relaxin' day I've had ALL YEAR, and I loved every minute of it. All that hard work baking, wrapping and buying gifts totally paid off.

My son is a drummer, so I know exactly what you will be going thru. He started lessons at 8 yrs old and plays to this day. He was in a rock band in high school, was in the school's jazz band and orchestra, gave lessons at a community center during his freshman year of college as a community service project, and has been in 3 bands since moving to VA. The love has never left him, and I love hearing him play!
My hubby and I tried a new idea for gift giving this year...we called it the "Xmas scavenger hunt".

The idea was, we made a list together, with simple inexpensive item like : Socks...pjs....1 CD, 1 DVD...etc, then each set out to buy each other the coolest versions of each category we could find. It wasnt intended to be a competition...but my husband, competitive guy that he is, kinda saw it that way.

Best gift?.......Hearing my husband, when the gifts were all open say: " Oh damn...you SO won! :rimshot:

I came up with this, because Scott tends to stress out over finding "The ONE Perfect Gift" and Xmas eve tended to find him still frantically searching, instead of home enjoying the holiday.

It really worked! :D Weve decided to do the same thing next year, with maybe a slightly different list (just to keep it interesting)

Here is our list from this year:

1- book
2- DVD
3-CD
4-Pajamas
5-socks
6-a Christmas decoration
7-a sweet food item
8-a savory food item
9-a game
10-something for the house
11-art/craft item
12-coffee mug
13-a tool of some kind
Tell us what you got!
The best Christmas present I gave was a drawing wendy did for me of my dogs. I gave it to my husband and he LOVED it! Wish I knew how to post the pix of it but Wendy if you are out there, please post it. It came out beautiful! :D

And the best gifts I received were all sheepie related! My husband got me a sheeping bag, coffee mug, sweatshirt, even a necklace.

My dogs favorite was their new beds, pie shaped that fit nicely into a corner and some new tug toys...
Here it is!!!!

Thank you wendy! That was our best Christmas present. And matted and framed it looks even more beautiful!
For the last few years, It hasn't been what I got but rather what I gave.
I have enjoyed planning much like the 12 days of Christmas, with about 12 different gifts for Molly's mom without going over board. This year I found a card with the nine reindeer on it and Santa, so the gifts started out from Donner, and Blitzen and etc., right up to Santa and then Mrs. Claus. I had a few more additional small items, so I even had to invent the back up team of reindeer, like comets replacement Venus, and Dancers backup of Singer. Now the gifts range from very special items of jewelry, quality perfume, to such things as cleaning products, (paper towels, toilet paper and Puffs tissue). While wrapping the gifts, one lady said to me, "someone is getting toilet paper", Now, who can't use toilet paper I ask you??? Anyways, with 13-14-or 15 gifts it makes Christmas morning very interesting. Of course there is a written story that follows the (reindeer this year) along the path of finding just the right gift or the (made up) encounter of getting it, or wrappping it.
The joy seems to come when she reads the story, then opens the gift to find what it is, sometimes funny, others sincere.
But always the thought and time put into it is appreciated.
GIVE IT TRY..........both seem to enjoy!
the best gift i got this year was having 2 of the best sheepies one could ever have.. i love my boys fream and duff they are the best
My most special Christmas gift:

A "Wendy original" of Mad (Chewie & Sybil et als mom) on the teeter in Cleveland, her first ever AKC standard run. From Dawn/Got Sheep.

 to both of you.

A very emotional gift, enough said. Beautifully done and infinitely thoughtful.

A little "birdie" told me you were getting that for Christmas! I've been waiting to hear your reaction! Can we perhaps see a picture?
Birdie, eh?

I have to hook up my scanner again, but it's been my intention to share with Wendy's permission?

I can post it, but it is better in person. This can give you guys an idea as it is a photo of the original...pending approval.
I alway take a photo or scan for my reference and website...so here is my copy Kristine.

At the risk of jinxing myself, my best Christmas present might just be from Tiggy!!!

I think she decided to switch some of her brain back on for my Christmas present. 8O We have had 3 walks in a row with hardly any pulling on the lead. She hasnt even charged ahead of me to try and bolt into gateways just in case there's a cat. I wont say she's perfect but we've gotten home with my arms still the same length they were when we set out. :clappurple:

I'm pretty sure its not just that every cat in the neighbourhood has mysteriously vanished from the face of the earth.

Well, thanks  :D
I'm glad to have a good idea every few years!
Seeing I only had the idea - a big thanks goes to Wendy for the drawing. Trust me - it looks even more impressive in person. The lines and pencil work is amazing showing her "hair in action" :D

And Kristine, you know how I feel about Chewie :hearts: , so nothing can ever repay you for that!

Sadly, I had to read that a few times before it hit me.....lol
My brain is way dead.... Good one Marilyn!
Christmas.....where do I begin?

As most of you have probably read between here and FB, I got an early gift of a new granddaughter. So, my biggest gift is Lisa is OK and so is baby Norah.

Coupling the medical emergency (preeclampsia), ambulance ride to beat the big snow storm on the 23rd, an induced premature delivery to keep both of them safe - started on Christmas day night, delivered on the 27th - what a week. 8O
Lisa is fine, she was discharged yesterday noon. She is able to stay at the hospital with Norah, as she is still in the NICU. I had to come back home last night, as I really had to go to work today and Thursday.
I plan on going back either Thursday night after work or early the next morning. We are 100 miles from the hospital they are at - the transfer was done so Norah could be born at a hospital with a Level 3 nursery in case it was needed. What a good choice made, as she needed it! It is so frightening to consider the alternative - being stranded here with the storm that actually grounded all helicopter transport and made ground transport a huge risk. 8O

So, our family has not had Christmas exchange yet. I had the flu 2 days before that, so mine are all in bags, waiting to be wrapped. They all were purchased, thank goodness. Having a lab pup, I purposely was waiting to wrap and put presents out last minute.....and he did get intop LeAnne and Keiths - and they needed to be rewrapped

My main gift to myself is this new laptop, and SO glad I had it up at the hospital this week. Even sceptical Todd was glad I had got it! :D
