Bark Collar

Ok I just found out from the previous owner of Tank that they used a bark collar on him and that is why he doesnt bark is this going to be a thing that I can change in him. I would very much like to hear from the big boy at some point in time.

I have NEVER met an owner who was glad they got their dog to bark ;)

I've had a few dogs who never barked. Many people on another board also had puppies who never barked, and then taught them to bark... biggest mistake ever.

Enjoy silence. Trust me... an OES big dog bark is not music to your ears.
Oh he'll bark when he needs to. If he had a bark collar on it was probably becasue he barked too much.
Well not only that but I dont think he was treated very nice. If you raise your arm he will cower in a big ball on the floor. Or if you raise your voice he will run and hide or try to anyway.

I wouldn't project. Morgan drops to the floor and cowers if he sees a stick in your hand. Anyone who doesn't know him would think he was beaten everyday of his life. Best I can figure the mop scared him one day when it fell to the floor from where it was propped up against the wall.

I agree with Kerry. We have had Asterisk since she was 8 weeks old. She has never been punished short of being placed into her crate if she got too obnoxious. If you raise your voice she'll slink down and slip into the basement and into her crate. Anyone who didn't know us, would have thought we beat our dog.
So I am taking it that this is a typical trait of the breed and I shouldnt be to concerned about that type of behavior.
Perhaps of lots of breeds?

My dalmatian is like that. If I lift my hand quickly to swat a fly or some such then he cowers, if I'm shouting about anything (not a him :D ), he runs and hides in his bed.

We picked him up from a fantastic breeder a 8 weeks old and he is spoilt. Never been hit or mistreated. Its just him. :?
Not sure if its "typical" but why would you be concerned about the behavior? It is what it is, its not destructive or anything.

As you get to know your dog and him you it might be eleviated and then again maybe not. The thing is the dog you've got on any given day is the dog you have to deal with. While you are doing it, don't look for extra problems.
I dont know, I guess at only 2, I expected him to be more puppy like. Dont get me wrong he is a big clumsy goofball. I just expected the worst I guess. I love him the way he is, dont get me wrong. Just finding out how different Sheepies are from other dogs. So far he is quite different than the other breeds that I am familiar with.
