Sparkys new home

Well we picked up Sparky on Saturday instead of Sunday. He is awesome I have a couple of questions though. He is only 2 according to his papers but he sleeps alot and by alot I mean most of the day and all night long is this normal for this breed. Also when my cats are playing he will run over and sit right down in between them as if to keep the peace not knowing they are playing they just look at his as if saying you big partypooper is this a normal trait also. Or perhaps he just doesnt like them. He is also very guarding of his food only when the cats are around though he will let me take the food bowl from him while he is eating not an issue there just when the cats are around he will growl at them. How do I break him of this or can I at 2 years old.

congratulations on your new boy. He might be sleeping a lot just because he is unaccustomed to your routine. He might not have been getting any stimulation. try taking him for a little walk and playing with him. It will take him a month at least to behave normally. He probably doesnt mind the cats and has obviously never seen them playing before. My oes would chase them if she saw them! It is good that he lets you take his food bowl. I should feed him in a different part of the kitchen to the cats so he knows no one is going to steal his food. Lastly, we do need photos please xx
Congrats!

I've had several fosters that slept for a few days straight when I first got them. It might be depression from the rehoming, it might be exhaustion from all the change, or it might just be his normal routine! I would try to engage him in play or walks to see how that perks him up.

As for the food aggression, I would feed him away from the cats. That way you will keep his stress level down and reduce the risk of one of the cats getting hurt.

Can't wait to see pictures!
I will get my camera back from the shop on Tuesday of next week and will be posting alot of pics then he is sooooo cute cant wait to show you.
congrats! can't wait to see photos
Congratulations!
He might be sitting between the cats when they play because it is his job to keep track of where his "herd" is. Moving cats (in different directions especially) will bring out this instinct. He just wants to make sure he has them accounted for.

That totally makes sense judging by the way he acts. He gets between them puts his nose up in the air like this will not happen on my watch. It is so bizarre to watch.
