How many days till Christmas?

Are you prepared?

Not here! I feel like I'm in a race that I CAN'T WIN. Just called the neices and nephews and Dh's kids to find out about gifts. Supposed to get 2 e-mails with suggestions and nothing yet. Did a little shopping today. Just put up the Christmas tree tonight. No decorations on it yet.

The house has not had a deep cleaning, dust and cobwebs everywhere. My brother is living in the basement...where everyone gathers after dinner and before and after gift giving.

My list seems endless. Not enough time...

Somehow it all gets done...

I'll be so glad when its all over.

we're in the same boat! Tree is up. decor is in boxes nest to it on the floor. No gifts bought, no cookies made and I just addressed all my cards. We have a single strand of icicle lights half hung on the front of the house. Its all lame. I feel like by the time I get it all up, it will be time to take it all down.
It's crazy this year. We are buying a second home near my daughter in GA...closing is Dec. 28th but we can move in the 23rd. We plan to live there in the winter once husband retires in 3 years...for now we will spend weekends and when I go to take care of sick grandchildren...it's only 2 hours from Waynesville. Well...put up all decorations for grandaughter Thanksgiving weekend...now I am taking them all down and packing them up to move to GA house as we will spend much of Christmas in GA in the future...hard to get into taking down decorations and packing them up 2 wks before Christmas...not to mention going through stuff to take to second house! Normally we would have waited until after husband retires to make such a move but home prices way down and interest rates are 4.2! Decided it was a good time but crazy this time of year! Moving in 23rd and spending time with daughter and family Christmas is really alot in a few days. The best part is dogs don't have to be borded on Christmas day! We of course will setup house for them.
I'm going crazy too! I do gift baskets for the family, and mine take time... and I can't find the time to wrap/decorate the boxes I'm putting them in b/c of the kids. I'm pooped by the time it's 9, so I want to go to sleep! Now the added pressure of getting the gift baskets for the 4 bus drivers and 3 teachers by the end of the week (when school gets out) ...and 10 neighbors I'm also making them for before they leave for the break... I feel like shooting myself. I'd like to go back to just baking them something and putting it in a decorative bag, but I always get asked for the gift baskets. :(
The year I got to the point where I said "I wish we could skip Christmas this year" I knew it was time for some changes. The next year we cut our gift giving way down (everyone was happy to do that). Very few gifts to wrap. The grandkids now either prefer money or to go shopping & pick out what they want & then to go to lunch/dinner with grandma. I don't bake anymore or sometimes just 1 or 2 kinds of cookies. No one here to eat them but me! I do make a couple kinds of candy tho'. That went over really good last year. Just make up a few "plates" with the cookies, candy & some fruit to take to a few places I frequent throughout the year. This way I am not so worn out that I don't enjoy Christmas Day. This year our holiday party is going to be January 9th! Worked out better for eveyone involved. So my Christmas decorations will be up thru the real Christmas season (not just thru Advent & Christmas Day) thru Epiphany this year. I'll start putting them away after the party
It's slowing down.......sorta. Only a few more gifts to deliver to needy families, yesterday 2 of us prepared a luncheon for 80...not doing that again! Today visiting 3 shut-ins, tomorrow luncheon with swim buds........and then, maybe, I'm FREEEEEE! Tree is up and decorated, the smaller ones......no, not yet. Presents delivered by elf in big brown or white trucks, but not yet wrapped.
Tree (very little) is up. Thank goodness it's a tough little tree, as puppy Biscuit pulled it down while I was at work. (Todd really supervises well.... )
Some presents bought (less than half)
No baking done - but making a gingerbread house w/ LeAnne and Bre tomorrow after school. :D

Bre's school Christmas program is tonight. Thank goodness for our WONDERFUL music program at the school. The choir director is amazing. She teaches music for the pre-K to JR high and also is the SR High choir director. A truly gifted musician who loves kids and is a great teacher. They put on fabulous concerts. Musicals and swing shows to die for. My 3 kids were all section leaders in HS choir. One example was the acapella arrangement she did of the National Anthem when the girls were in HS. The kids sang it for the home football games and people were absolutely mesmerized....
And - she is religious too (sings in a women's faith group too) and she blatantly puts traditional Christmas (religious) music in the concerts. Love it! Gotta love small midwestern towns!
Baking..........? 8O Oh no, I forgot! 8O 8O 8O

rats, rats, rats, rats.............
We put a tiny fake tree up too, I don't trust Rudie! Our apartment is smaller this year and it's a mess so I opted not to have our usual white elephant exchange with friends which has taken off a huge load of stress.

I'm waiting for Dave's paycheck with all his overtime hours to do any shopping (hope he doesn't read this  ) but I'm a super fast shopper so it won't take more than 2 days, and I already took those days off.

This year my biggest stress is figuring out what to do with the dogs. We will have to ask the in-laws very nicely if they can spend a few days there while we run around like crazy making all the parties. Marley is never an issue, but Rudie got sick in their house last time (after my mother in law gave him too much turkey) so he has worn his welcome out a bit. I'm almost tempted to bring them over to meet Walter...
I have it pretty easy this holiday season. I'm not buying any presents. My place is decorated. I'm doing Christmas Day dinner but it's only 3 of us so I'm doing beef tenderloin. I'm not doing any real baking, just some fudge and other candy. I'm enjoying the slower pace!
Oh, and the kids all made lists of what they'd like. (per my request) I would rather get what they actually want.

You know you have a dog oriented family when stuff like "Spike getting his anal glands/ teeth done" and "dog bed" appears on your kids' lists!! 8O

Off to the vet to get the gift certificate today.... and the dog bed is already bought (Martha sized). :D

Each year we do amazon wishlists since they have a cool feature that you can add anything on your list from other sites too now ...and I don't know what I'd think if SIL had pay for my shih tzu to have anal glands expressed. ;)

I agree - it cracks me up everytime I walk in the kitchen and read it on her list. (they are on the fridge with magnets  )
I got all my cards sent today; so I can cross that off my list. Adm spent an hour and a half stringing lights up outside only to find that the outdoor outlet doesn't work. Tonight I really do need to do that baking so I can mail out cookies to everyone, but the tree still isn't decorated and I went to 4 stores today looking for tree lights and couldn't find any.

Maybe I'll use the icicle lights Adam tried to put on the house? If only the wire wasn't white!
I'm with Paula, relaxing at the back while everyone rushes around. I've got my mum & dad's presents, Greg's, Ru has a bone and the 3 of Greg's bro's girlfriend's presents were easy once I decided what to get. That's it for me, we don't buy for friends so it's all pretty simple.
The tree has been up since the end of November but I've been gradually adding to it. I'm baking a cake today, making cookies and some cookies for Ru later in the week. We start the family visits on Sunday, so Ru will get a bath Saturday and that will be the last of my prep :D

Oh man...where am I gonna get time to bathe the dogs....
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Why do we do this every year! HA!
I am tired! All decorations up (I have a Christmas village i set up - lots of work but pretty), still buying presents, started cooking today for Christmas dinner (have 10 coming for dinner), cleaning and cleaning (well that is everyday) detailed cleaning next week, start baking this weekend, groom all five dogs, groom me NOT, oh laundry - the washer broke just got a new one yesterday, making wreaths, having guest this weekend, more grocery shopping to do, oh toilet broke in master bedroom - call plumber, pool pump broke - call pool repair, oh top on my brand new convertible not working (I know you feel sorry for me with this one) get to VW tomorrow morning, wrap presents, oh get more cards out.
I feel like I can now slow down a bit and enjoy the next week--wrapped presents today (don't really like that job)--just a few more things to buy. Got most of the packages sent out that needed to be mailed or sent. My Holiday open house is over --so most of the big stuff behind me. Now time to enjoy it all---bake a little--make all the good fattening treats that we enjoy and listen to Christmas music!

Until... it is time to take it all down!
No baking, not doing cards, no decorations or lights, just the tree is up. I started xmas shopping last night and got not even half done.

All I can think is that I want to get back to house renovations and get it done but I can't really tear anything else apart til xmas is over with.
I've been up forever making gift baskets and wrapping a crapload of presents for the little ones. Not quite at the half way point yet, and I've been at it for FIVE hours already. My mom doesn't have the internet, so she asks me to do all her shopping. Well, since the gifts are at my house, I'm wrapping them as well. She was smart. I bet she's just sitting in her chair relaxin' and laughing at how clever she was to my dad.
