The cold and sore joints

Hi Everyone

Now that it's extremely cold and snowy here in Michigan Frankie is really limping. I was talking to my husband and wondering if a coat and boots would do the trick. He went to day care and maybe he played to hard, but I wanna say it's more the cold. Do Sheepies like those kinds of things and do you think it makes sence?

Your comments would be greatly appreciated

You might want to talk to your vet & see if there are any meds he thinks might help Frankie. I think you mentioned he had a problem with his hips even tho' he's young. Most likely a coat & boots is only going to help if he's outside for extended periods of time. Generally (especially at the younger ages) they can cope with the overall body cold when outside for regular periods of time as even with shorter hair they have an undercoat which helps to keep them warm. If it is joint pain he's probably going to need some other type of relief to make him comfortable.
I give Rosco 2 Gyco-Flex 3 every day. It does seem to help although he's getting so he can't get up by himself unless he's on carpet; he is 11. I know Frankie is still young and this may do him some good. Ask your vet first but it should be fine. You can order from Amazon, I got 3 bottles of 120 for about $120.00.
Yes Frankie is on Glucosomine 2x aday. I thinks it 1500 mgs a day total.

We also have rimadyl to give him only when he's in pain..
The vets dont want him to take to many pain relievers because of his age.
They are afraid if he's feeling to good he might really hurt himself by being to rambuntious. ( come on a sheepie being rambuntious :P :P :P )

We are going back to the specialist In January to decide on surgery.
Chauncey is 4 and has been taking Glyco-Flex 3 for the past 4 months. He was licking both "wrist". When we were at the loading dose of 2/day the licking all but stopped. Then, as directed after 6 weeks, we decreased the dose to 1/day. The licking started to pick up so we are now back to 2/day again. We are going to attempt to decrease the dose next week to 1 1/2 but our Vet is comfortable keeping him on 2. He has never seem to be in pain, other than the licking, but given that the med has slowed the licking I'm sure he has been uncomfortable.
May I ask?

What is Gycoflex?

Is it over the counter or prescribed?
GlycoFlex is used for joint support. It contains glucosamine, MSM, and other stuff I can't remember  . You can get it online from Amazon.
