Storm of the Century???

Where???

That is all I keep hearing about. I think its been three days of warnings. Tons of snow, roaring winds, temps dropping into the single digits.

At first...days ago, they were predicting anywhere from 6"-12". Then the front shifted and we are getting less.

Let me back up for a moment...I know that some areas to the west are going to be hit hard and will get blizzard conditions and for that I am sorry.

Our local weatherman is practically salivating about conditions that are happening...but not here :?: Sure I want to know whats happening but I also want to know what I'm dealing with in my backyard. The local weather keeps shouting blizzard...but not here. School's and business's closing...but not here. Highways closing and ten foot drifts...but not here.

This is my "local" news. Tell me what I'm going to be dealing with in my "local" area!

I've got a big mess here. :(
I got up to go to work. I can't even see 1 telephone pole down the road (that's our gauge - how many phone poles can we see?). The flag and wind sock are standing straight out. Supposedly it's still snowing, but with all the blowing I can't tell. I have huge drifts in some places (like in front of my garage about 3 feet tall and goes across the driveway/yard for at least 100 feet), and other places are blown bare.

I checked the weather - 31 mph winds with gusts over 40. Temp is still 11, but windchill is -11. Even Chewie doesn't want to stay outside - and he loves cold and wind. All area schools are closed.
The wind is supposed to die down by noon. I called into work - told them I would leave when I could get out, and the plow goes by on our gravel road.
Lucky for you all - I'm working on the Christmas cards
cr@ppy here. I went out to the vet's this morning - the 20 minite trip took almost an hour - each way!! I came home and decided it wasn't worth trying to get to work.

I'll spend the day catching up on laundry, housework and sewing; and putting Marley in and out of her snwo suit :? Its like having little kids
It's horrible here, too. Most people didn't come into work today... I don't know how I'll get home!
I posted pictures in the pictures section.
It seems so much nicer in the daylight
(said from the safety of my windbreak...)
All we have is wind.

Why are you putting Marley in a snowsuit? Just curious....
Well, SE MN has 15 inches or more, with more coming and expected to come through midnight tonight, so over 24 hrs of snowfall. Plus strong winds and falling temperatures: it's nasty.

I've never not gone to work because of weather, even when I was driving out before the snow plows, but I called in this morning, along with quite a few others.

And of course, the brand new last year snowblower wouldn' start this morning, so we're still digging out, and re-digging what blew back.

I don't know about storm of the century, but for us, it is the storm of the decade.
I was going to say what the temp is here BUT,
I didn't want ya'll to start throwing snow balls
at me :sidestep:

Seriuosly, stay safe everybody!!

oh she is in (almost) a show coat and I don't feel like blow drying her everytime she goes out
Sunny here 8)
All we got was a ton of rain here in NJ.
I almost feel guilty.  It is in th mid 80's here. Absolutely gorgeous today.

BUT i can make you feel better about it. This afternoon i received a panicky IM from my neighbor to CALL IMMEDIATELY!!!! They went into my house and the heat isn't working. Last night it was minus 17 F.
They tried and tried to get the heat working, and are afraid all the pipes are frozen..... we called the heater people to come and they were coming tomorrow a.m. I was panicked about the brazilian cherry floors i had put in this summer before i left. I could see them under water from burst pipes.

Then i called my other neighbor and said something to him about the fuses on the side of the house. He went over and flipped the switches back and heat came on!!! OH THANK YOU................. so they reset the heat, called the company and cancelled and left all cabinet doors open so they would thaw out.........gradually.
Just 3.5 inches of snow in Central NY.
The lake effect machine will be kicking in for the areas east of Lake Ontario. Sucks to be them.
If it makes anybody feel better....on top of our warm weather
I am guessing we had wind gust of 45 mph!!!
A few of my fosters could have been swept away with their
skinny butts!!
12 " of wet heavy snow the past 24 hours. Winds are 20-30 mph so snow is drifting. 5 degrees with a wind chill of -19 degrees coming into work tonight. on the brighter side the family is looking forward to going skiing this weekend
We got some snow but it was too cold for us to get what they were predicting. Actually to day it got in the low 20's for a small time period then started dropping. Been negative temps @ night and single digits during the day. Last night had 40 mph winds with gust of 60+. Suppose to warm up to 30 on Saturday.
We have freezing rain. I would love to trade you. I can drive in snow, freezing rain is a free-for-all
so much for just the fuse on the house.
3 bust pipes in the house.......... one on each floor aparantly. <sigh> thank goodness for home owners insurance.

:( :(

Was someone staying in the house? I was wondering why the water was still on with you down in Mexico. Even without the danger of winter and freezing, I would be paranoid that a pipe would burst, water heater leak, or some other big mess. :(
I hope the damage isn't too bad.
