Luke is getting bald

Luke was just diagnosed with very low liver enzymes and as a result is losing his hair. He never had a very profuse coat to begin with and this is not life threatening, he will be put on medication. I just wondered if anyone knows about this.

Awww, sorry to hear about Luke. :( I hope his hair grows back!
Thanks, I love you avatar.
Thank you! It's over a week old now, I'm trying to get some new pictures of him from his breeder. Apparently he's the biggest of the litter and I bet he grew a lot in one week. :D
Try this the total cost for a large batch will be 75 or 80 dollars, something like that. From Bizzeeboots http://www.gbwebs.com/bizzeeboots/tips.html
it is also on this site with where you can buy the stuff http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/growinghair.html
Hair Growth Remedy

1 lb. Peanut Butter

1 lb. Honey

1 lb. Diaglo Powder or Mirra Coat special care

1 pt. Lavitamin also known as Lixatonic or Pet-tinic

Have peanut butter at room temperature. Mix all ingredients together. This will be very thick and sticky.

Stores indefinitely in refrigerator.

Make into balls according to size of the dog:

Small dogs should get 1-3 teaspoons daily.

Large dogs should get 1-2 tablespoons daily.

Guaranteed to grow hair – even on doorknobs. If you can get the doorknobs to eat and digest this – it will grow hair !!

(This recipe is in The Quincy Kennel Clubs cookbook and was submitted by Virginia Knocke)
I'm not up to reading thru all the scientific stuff on Merck Vet Manual tonight, so I'll let you do it.

In the little space up on the right upper section type in "decreased liver enzymes". In a quick survey I didn't find an exact entry, but scanning I see there could be some serious things going on. You don't need to be a vet to read this stuff, skip over those big scientific words and you'll still get the gist. At least you'll be able to ask the vet a few more questions at your next visit.
Hi,

Not sure if exactly the same thing, but MamaKat, my rescue has just been put on medication from the vets office to boost up her iron. It's called Vetamino-4X. It's an oral suppliment to be taken twice daily to boost up the iron in her blood as it showed it was low during a blood exam.

When I first fostered her she had very sparse hair and it was completely missing on her backside and tail. (This also could have been due to stress.)

Again I'm not sure if our two pets are experiencing the same thing but I'd be interested to here the medication your vet suggest.

Hugs to Luke

Marianne
Just talked to the vet about Luke. He will be on levathyroxien(sp?) twice a day for the rest of his life. I'm giong to do some research as I am not familiar with this. His thyroid is not producing enough hormone.
