New bra = advice for the female members

You know I've lost a lot of weight. I just "adjusted" my bra size myself. My bras always look yucky. The straps always fall down. I figured it was just part of being a smaller woman.

Yesterday I did some shopping at our outlet mall in Wisconsin. They have a Jockey store up there. The store has it's own Bra Fitter Specialist. She measured me and had me try on several new styles...and a completely different size. It was unbelievable! THEY FIT!

I would suggest anyone, who is not comfortable in their bras, get a proper fitting. It make a huge difference!

I think some people are set in being miserable and in denial to their size. I preach this to my mom all the time. She thinks her bra is fine though she reminds me of... well, I won't go there. Whenever I can trap her at a mall, I force her to go to neimans to get re-sized and buy new bras! Each time she is so happy about her new fit but goes through the same cycle again w/different weight changes and I can't get her to go back in. Who knows, it may become the in thing ...to be lumpy and have fat rolls hanging above and over your bra.
Regarding the straps....I ONLY wear strapless bras, they are the best and no more slipping down and pulling.

What?! You must not have a lot to hold up! Otherwise, all those stupid things do is slip and pull and I find the support to be mediocre at best.

I was thinking the same thing. I hate strapless bras and only wear them as necessary.
I'll second the advice to get professionally fitted every so often, no matter your size.

Don't let your "likes" dictate your bra selection. I have a friend who has several fitting problems and bitches constantly, but insists on wearing front hook, one catch bras, when she absolutely should not. "But they are easy to put on..." yeah, but she looks like....ahem.....and says "I can't wait to take the thing off when I get home." She then worries about people coming to her door.

I also highly recommend buying new bras more often than most of us do....(looking in the mirror. )

Yeah, but even at the department stores the price is unbelievable - on sale at Kohl's (I really don't like their bras but was there and decided to once again try some) the price for two was nearly $50. I can tolerate one of them and hate the other one. oh well into the drawer they go :D :D
I can always tell now just by looking at it whether it will be the perfect fit but that's sticking to certain brands. NoT all sizes are equated equally esp from low end places. My bra specialist told me to never wear the same bra more than 1 day. Let it rest for a day, wear another, and then go back to that bra. Extends the life and that initial fit you liked.

Huh???? You mean they're not supposed to be there? 8O :sidestep:

No not very large, tg, just average I guess. I like it this way, no back aches or "droopers". (nothing to droop. lol)
Love my camis!
Well, geez, 2 for $50 isn't the most expensive...I've paid...there are some out of Europe that...well, never mind. Granted, if you are a nice petite 34 B we aren't talking the same language, but get to the other end of the alphabet and we are looking at parachutes and they cost.

I will buy one of the more expensive and then go looking on line for same brand and model and shop for sales. May mean I have to wait a bit, hence trying not to let them get toooo shabby before looking for newbies.

I really was only trying to point out thta even cheap brase are costly :)

a friend gets hers fitted ad hand made - now that is pricey.
I agree. Some research suggests the size of woman's breasts change up to 4 times per year!

LOL LOL LOL Those of us at the other end of the alphabet salute you! I've often wondered how something so ugly can cost so much, and if I'm looking for a pretty one.........................sigh Second mortgage. I usually wind up with a pricey parachute.
Oh, dear lord, is there nothing we won't discuss????

Actually, it caught my eye because I went shopping for a new sports bra this weekend. Don't get me started on that idiocy. Most of them were made for women who don't need them in the first place  :?

Shopping always makes me crabby but this one was a doozy even for me

Doesn't look like it
You can't go wrong with the victoria semi-annual sale. You can get a VS cotton bra for $15.
^^

I never understood their semi-annual sale. It seemed more like their "sale for the week really" sale. I would go almost daily on my breaks when I worked at the mall back in the day, and always waited a week later for their new special name for their sale. they're like a furniture store. The sale never ends ...they just like making you feel good about the special day you bought it on. ;)

Ditto for Kohls!

Before I was post menapausal...my size changed about 4 times a month!!!!
Try finding anything bigger than a 38C that doesn't look ugly.

Try finding anything in 32A that doesn't make you feel like a grade-schooler!!!
I'm in the room you know.

;)

Do you mean the band size or cup size?

Cup size shouldn't be a big deal in terms of cuteness. I don't own a single ugly bra. The only difficulty I do have is finding stuff without wires in D+ cups. I like to sleep in a bra and I prefer more flexibility.

Band size, no, there are aren't a lot of options in the odd sizes.
Concerning the price............you pretty much get what you pay for. They are more comfortable & last longer. Here's what I do. I go to the dept. stores that I frequent & buy merchandise from. I try on several different brands & styles. I take notes, literally, in the dressing room. Then I go home & order the exact same ones online from the outlet store at 1/2 the price. I don't feel like I am cheating because I spend a lot of money at these stores throughout the year.

And Kristine.....as for a sports bra......all I've ever managed to do with one of them is throw my shoulders out of whack trying to get into & out of them!
LOL!!! I agree...you have to be a contortionist to wear a sports bra.

Ron...no one is paying any attention.
I don't have trouble putting on a sport bra...but taking it off (a sweaty body) is pure torture!!!

I'm one of those who can't imagine life w/o wire. They recommend maternity bras w/o wire, and I said those people who recommend that are not D+'s!!!!

I also don't have any issues finding big bras that are pretty. I did in the past, but if you go into a high end department store... you shouldn't. If I can find sexy MATERNITY bras in the 38C+ range... a normal bra is cake.
A great sports bra is the "Moving Comfort Fiona" bra. I am a generous 36DD and love this bra. It has an underwire and really holds everything in. I take a very vigorous exercise class and always feel comfortable. For regular bras I am a Wacoal person.

A lot of great info here, but does anyone have anything on the Mansiere? Just wondering.

Good for running as well? I am shopping for a good sports bra (although I HATE wire) in that very size right now.
Good grief. Suddenly I'm very happy that I don't need to bother with a bra unless I'm going out the door, and that's just for warmth. I'm not flat chested, they just haven't dropped yet 8O
It's a 40D or DD that we have trouble finding in any cute colors or patterns.
Yes, the "Moving Comfort Fiona" bra is also good for running. My girlfriend is an avid runner (just did the NYC Marathon) and this is the bra she uses. I found mine at Dick's Sporting Goods. And, guess what, they are not cheap (I don't think any bra I get is cheap!)

^^
I did some research and the Champion Powersleek is still considered - well the champion (and NO wires :D ) I did order one - we shall see.

That's the Bro.

(Cue up cha-cha music)
No, no, the Mansiere was the invention of George Costanza's father on Seinfeld in season 6.
It was the Bro! (according to Kramer) They never agreed on the name. It even came up as a fight in a later episode.
The bro is no good... too ethnic.

Huh? 8O I don't remember ever being that small......oh how glorious! When my aunt was in her 70's she surgically went from F cup to A cup out of choice.....and a life of cysts. She was tall, thin so being suddenly flat was a real treat. I can only dream.....of being tall, thin and flat.
Have you noticed the texture on this wall treatment over here? What is that, drywall? Very smooth. Very smooth indeed.

And the paint! Quite white, perhaps they used some primer, too.

Very smooth and white.

Ron, very slowly turn around...walk to the door and leave...oh yea...and close the door behind you! I believe this is a no boyz allowed zone!

Deborah, name the day. Any days except the 12th and 13th.
Amazing! A chat on bra fitting has received such great support! Maybe time to lift this from the chat and separate it from the rest. It has been very uplifting.

My views on the price of bras are.....

"If it gets them back where they were 26 years ago...it's not too expensive"

Ahem ladies: Is it just me or are we going into more detail than we normally would because the boys are listening in? It reminds me of when I was about 10 years old and a group of us would take turns seeing who could gross everybody out the most. FUN!!

This thread is second only to the "Tubes Tied and pregnant" thread
8O 8O Pox on your house for brining up that topic 8O 8O

OK, I surrender, no more titillating bra discussions.
Now, going to get fitted is very good advice...IF you are evenly matched.
After having my son, my (ex-)husband heard a blood-curdling scream and rushed in to what he thought was going to be a blood-bath. Instead, he found me sobbing b/c I realized that if baby plays favorites, things do not remain equal! 8O
After laughing so hard that he cramped, he assured me, "No, no, everything is exactly how it should be..."
Only after returning to work and having another new mom ask about nursing did I have several 'friends' (male and female) comment on how my son must pick favorites.
Fortunately, time heals almost all wounds! (and mismatches)

Still...it was rough trying to find a bra that accomodated two very different sizes.
