diarreha

Our 7 month old has had intermittent diarreha since we got him. He has been checked out several times and seems to be fine. He is on Chicken Lovers for the soul large breed puupy. Wondering if I should try Science diet WD

I'd talk to the vet, taking in the ingredients label. Could be your pup is senstive to something in the food. Playing the switch around game could make the problem worse. Instead I'd be looking at possible allergens or too high or low a protein/fat/carb level as well as preservatives.

Puppies tend to get the runs rather easily as their systems are rapidly changing.
Pop some Yoghurt in his diet, tablespoon each day might help as has good bacteria in it to support the gut.

Now trying something else will only upset the system at the moment, talk to your vet and if they suggest another brand to try then transition over very slowly taking a week or more to get use to a new food.

Also in his dinner boil some rice and just put a little bit of that in his food might help to make the doo doo a bit more formed.

Intermitent diarrhea is hard to work out what is the trigger so it is just trial and error to find what is the best for your dog and what works.

With Science diet just check if you are going to try that what the preservative in the food is firstly.

And yes as Sheepieboss said some puppies do get loose stools at this age, sometimes excitement etc can make them looser then normal. We use to call Syd "Mr Whippy" on a walk first poo fine, next one sloppy due to excitement and exersion, LOL. He has grown out of that now and is rock solid on his walks
Feeding too much can also trigger loose poop. Seems to me many pups ahve loose poop for a while until they adjust to their new homes and their food, etc. If the loose poop continues or is accompanied by vomitting, a trip to the Vet is in order. Pups can get dehydrated very quickly and that is a major problem.

If you changed his food too quickly, that will cause problems too...

Yes yes! Too much food can do that! Dog food bags frequently waaaaay overstate the amount to feed. How much are you feeding and how often?
Pups will often overfeed themselves, so free feeding isn't a great idea. Better to go back to several small feedings than one large...but assume you are still feeding twice a day, not once a day. I feed 2x a day for my adults.....amount each time is amazingly small. Remember, treats also count as food.

Rice or pumpkin are good binders to help firm up the stools. If the pup gets roaring diarrhea, best to remove all food for up to 24 hours and start back with boiled riced and meat (chicken or beef...assuming none are allergy problems). When firm on that, slow bring back the kibble.
I also have a 7mos old oes who has been battling loose stools since we got him as a 8 week old. I finally have put him on Science diet Id dry food and he has been solid since then. The vet says whatever works. I have never been very fond of Science diet or have not really heard good things about it but for right now it's the only thing that works. As I also have read from the other repsonses when he walks or goes to day care which he loves he gets loose stools there and then is fine at home. Must be the activity.
We've always used a tablespoonful (or appropriate size according to age, maybe a teaspoonful or less for the younger dog) of 100% organic pure pumpkin mixed into the food. We use Libby's in the can. Our last girl had a grass allergy (yes a sheepdog allergic to grass...) so I suspect that may have a played a role in her stomach problems from time to time. Our boy Frankie has the runny bottom every now and again and the pumpkin does the trick. We also never give him canned food, always his dry Inova with some cheese, banana, or a little something extra in it (veggies or apple) in one meal. The other meal is plain. I have noticed if he's had more treats than usual (his junkfood is Snausages, it will be soft). As a young pup (he's only 19 months right now) he had a runny bottom a lot and our trainer told us to get off the canned food no matter how pure and great it was, it was not for puppies. We switched and voila! At any rate, check the allergies, check the ingredients of your food, I highly suggest getting away from the SD, going to a local specialty store/talk to a trainer and see what they feed there dogs. Good luck!
