Show Cut...?

I am trying to figure out how to show cut the OES? I am particularly concerned about the butt! I am part of the Greater Portland Old English Sheepdog Club (gpoesc.com) and the president and his wife show their dog Sohpie; they have offered to show me how to do everything once he is long enough.. and I am definitely going to take them up on it!!! However, I just wanted to get his butt lookin good for now
Any Advice??
Thanks!!

Best advice - use a clupper just for a sanitary cut and just wait the rest out - otherwise you risk cutting what you don't want to cut  and then it is just more waiting
If you already have someone willing to help, definitely take them up on it and have them show you some back end trimming. It really helps to have someone physically show you more than almost anything you can read.

Are you planning on showing your dog or are you just looking for general butt maintenance?
Not sure when you are planning to start showing him, but I would not suggest clippers (at all) if you are going to show (Kerry, your breeder will be after you for that one! ). Need to scissor trim and learn the nuances about trimming.

There are some butt trim images around in the grooming section but it won't hurt to go ahead and contact the the GPOES people and start learning how to prepare the coat for the ring now.
oops sorry - It didn't sound to me like htey planned on showing. I really needed to ask that didn't I?

And having seen my co-owner last week you know why I advised against touching the scissors
Yes, no clippers if you want to show, and honestly, if you're a newbie, no scissors either. Ever. LOL

As a newbie I was told by mentors to grow the coat but I wasn't allowed to even own scissors yet. LOL

Diane came here to trim for me when I was learning. (2 hour drive, she REALLY didn't want me to touch scissors LOL)

Zach is CH Snowdowne Knight In Shining Armor, he's from Colleen and Dea and littermate to Sophie :)

You can't show him in conformation if he is neutered. But you can show him in AKC performance events. It takes a long time to learn how to groom & trim for show. Don't get discouraged.
