New to the forum :)

Hi, my name is Julie and I live in NJ. I've been reading the board for nearly a week now, I really enjoy reading it. Everybody seems so knowledgeable about the breed and obviously love their sheepdogs very much. :D

I've recently put a deposit down on a sheepdog puppy that I'll be getting around March 23rd. His name right now is "Patrick". That's him in my avatar picture. He has a black patch of fur on his right eye so I was thinking of naming him something piratey, but I dunno yet. So far the name I'm thinking of calling him is "Lancelot". Any ideas? :)

Hi,

Welcome to the forum! It's been my experience that many times a name has been chosen in advance then sometimes changed when the pup is brought into the home. Observing some cute or outstanding little quirk our furballs have that makes another name more suitable. You'll know the right name I have no doubt.

Congrats on your new pup!

Make sure you visit often as it's a great place to visit and ask questions regarding this breed. You get to chat with lots of nice people too.

Welcome to the forum! :)
I can't wait to see more pics, he looks adorable :)
He is darling! Lancelot is a pretty cool name, I don't think I've ever heard that one.
Hi, welcome nice to meet you,
How about Jack sparrow after the Johnny Depp chappie, pirates of the carribean.
luv dougal and pepe
Well Lancelot was part of the name of the 1975 Westminster winner, but his call name was Dudley so I'm not sure if that counts. LOL
As Marianne said, you may change it once he's home. After 8 months, I think we should have named Pooh Bear Eyeore for the way he sometimes mopes around.
Hey Julie, I live about 20 minutes from you. Where are you getting your pup from? Someplace local? There's another member on this forum from Collingswood & also Mt Laurel.

Anyhow he's really cute. How about just calling him Captain?

I just had our pup at the vet recently in Mt Laurel and she says that she's been seeing quite a few sheepdogs lately come through her office when they were so rare before.
Thanks for the warm welcome everybody. :D As far as his name, I think I will wait til he gets here and then decide. Lancelot is still a favorite but some of my friends aren't too fond of it. My one friend told me to name him something "I'd be willing to yell out loud". My boyfriend isn't helping much because he wants me to "make an independent decision."
Fair enough, he is *my* dog! :D Jack Sparrow is cute..I thought about that too. Captain isn't bad either. :)
VerveUp: I'm glad there's more sheepies around here in NJ, they're great. ^^
And no actually, I'm not getting him from somewhere local. I've read a lot of posts about the negatives of buying a pup from the Internet, but the breeders seem very nice and I asked a lot of questions and they've asked me questions, and definetly care about what kinda homes their pups go to. I made sure I was careful, and I'll definetly take him to my Vet as soon as he arrives, just in case. He's coming all the way from Colorado! :)
I like Jack Sparrow. You friend has a point-- definitely name your dog something that you don't mind yelling-- or that other people won't mind calling him! There's nothing sadder than a huge, tough looking guy chasing after "Peaches" or "Sweetie" :P

Also keep in mind giving your dog a name that is easy for him to answer to will make training and getting his attention much easier.
What a cute puppy! Congrats on him and welcome to the forum. :)
Welcome to the forum, Flare, and congrats on your new puppy!

All 3 of our sheepies have been rescues and have come with their names, so I've yet to name one myself. When I eventually do get a puppy, it it's a male, we like the name Hoover - because they're like vacuums if anything falls on the floor!

Since you're local to me (I'm near Allentown, PA), have you read the posts on the picnic in Ft. Washington in May? Check out the thread:

http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=2524

for details. It would be so great to see such a little puppy there!

Prepare to love this forum! No question or problem too small or too big. Someone, somewhere has "been there, done that."

I'd love to come! I mentioned it to my parents (Still in college and live with them) and they think it sounds fun. :D I'll probably bring along the boyfriend as well. :)
Julie,

The more, the merrier!! I'm sure Chad is amazed at how many responses he is getting for the picnic. Should be a lot of fun, and I'll be in heaven with all the sheepies there - all ages, all shapes and sizes!

It's cool that you can get a new puppy while you're in college. I'm assuming you commute? My son graduated last May but didn't live at home while school was in session. My daughter currently is enrolled, but she lives at school, too. They both miss our Drezzie so much when they're away! My son is now on his own in DC, and his roommate has a beagle/JRT mix, so he's not totally dog-less. But he can't wait for the day when he can get his own sheepie rescue. I've raised another generation of OES lovers!

Yeah, I go to a Community College which is only about 40 minutes away from my house. I'm a bit of a homebody and was never the type to go off to a dorm far away from my family. I prefer to be here at home. Can't wait for the picnic. :)
