Long Island Iced (Ice?) Tea.

Ohhh! I just remembered a drink I used to fancy back about 25 or 30 years ago... The Long Island Iced Tea! Or is it "Ice Tea"?

I remember the first time I had one. It was prepared in a 16oz. beer glass and I watched the bartender carefully(!) measure five shots of different liquors over ice and add a lemon.

I was floored! It tasted perfectly like iced tea and I absolutely could NOT tell it had alcohol in it. At least until I had half. Hoo hoo! I can see how someone could get totally drunk by accident on those.

I had a few more over the next couple of years and most were terrible imitations. Seems like when they try to make them into normal sized drinks it just doesn't work.

Anyone have experience with these, good or bad?
Suggestions on how to get consistent results?

I know what you man I have had quite a few lovely ones sitting along the river, but have had as many not so great ones at the same spot, different bartender. If you find the perfect recipe please share.
I've never made one but I've drunk my fair share of them. Apparently I have a high tolerance for liquor because I can have 3 and feel no effects!
Well 5 shots is seven and one half ounces of alcohol.......
Yum
As a bartender in my past life, a lot of the difference in the LI tea mixture is if a bartender is free pouring or using a jigger to measure out the exact amounts. Too heavy on one pour can really mess things up.

Also, a lot of them add OJ where they should just stick with sweet & sour mix and coca cola.

If you really are jonesing for this beverage, but don't want to get plastered, you may want to look into the malt liquor version called "Twisted Tea" (hard iced tea). Not quite the same, but it's pretty good!

Just not the same :(
In Canada, there used to be a mix that made a phenomenal LI. It was more like the Twisted Tea but a heck of a lot more potent. I can't remember the name of it now...

Isn't that what happens when you have too many?
What about trying some of the premixed versions? Captain Morgan makes one: http://marketviewliquor.com/index-id-99 ... um=organic

Exactly! I know my Canadian version was not a name brand that is popular here. It was surely something that had words ending in -our, -que or something. In other words, totally un-American.
nothing better than a good ice tea.....I have found a Long Island Ice Tea mix by Phillips ...not sure if it is sold everywhere....this is not bad at all
then you done have to have all the different liquors.......
