Cost of our turkeys are only 29 cents a pound. We got 2 today and before the end of next week hope to get 6 more. Yes big freezer! I use it all year long. We make our own It. turkey sauage, and breakfast patties so it gets lots of uses. |

I was just thinking about checkng on the turkey prices around here. I'm all for stocking up too! |
we do the same thing...only we dont get ours from the store.....Hunting season is now so we get a few to last the year. |
You allowed to use corn or anything as bait around there? |
lol no you have to do it the good ole fashion way. ![]() |
Turkey is overrated. ![]() |
Have a love/hate relationship with turkey. Love it, hate that I love it. ![]() That's so cheap compared to what we pay around here. I paid almost 60 bucks for a turkey last year. They're all over the place wild here too, not uncommon to see 15-40 of them wandering at the side of the road. People swerve a lot in those areas ![]() |
Got a free 13 lb. butterball...grocery store does it every year by collecting points! I LOVE turkey AND dressing AND gravy AND mashed potatoes AND dessert!!!! I make all those good vegetable side dishes but really don't eat the salad or veggies much as I want plenty of room for the turkey, potatoes, dressing, gravy.... |
The lowest ours are here is 39 cents/pound.
I need to stock up!! Our family loves turkey and all the trimmings too ![]() |
After reading everyone's posts, I've realized that I've never bought a whole turkey. Cooked them, sure. But it's never been my purchase. Kind of a weird revelation.... |

![]() LOL But it does make you sleepy if you eat a pound or two - At my age that's not a bad thing. ![]() |
Wow, I haven't seen them .29 around here, but then I haven't been looking. Got one "free" if you spend $100.00 at grocery store........hah! Easy!! Get a book, bottle of wine and bottle of Glucosamine and you are well on your way! |
.59 cents a pound is the cheapest around here. This year we are going to our son's home for dinner. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I just can't get over your prices!!!
I have been looking and don't see any prices but I know just a turkey breast is around 20 bucks. 8 dollars a lb is normal, holiday prices are lower but I don't *think* under 4 dollars a lb. Now I get why anyone who lives anywhere near the border and some who don't go over to the states to get their turkeys. |

Wow, Stacey, that's HIGH. ![]() ![]() I haven't been looking here either because my Mom and sister informed me they had already bought the turkey for me to cook. 22 lbs!! I don't know who they think is coming to dinner. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Those prices are for frozen. ![]() |
I'd have thought that breasts are more expensive than whole turkeys. |
I've got a 23 pounder all ready to go! .19 cents a pound !!!!!
My sister got one too. She actually is having Thanksgiving, but I do a "backup Turkey" in case we need more, and so we have left overs at out our house too. Plus, I am on gravy patrol, and need the drippings. Can't wait until next Thursday.... Turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, cranberries, rolls, pie.... I am sooo hungry now ![]() |
I got my 20# turkey last night on my way home from work. Came out to about $8 ![]() Limit one, so I guess I will be back getting another one when I go in to teach classes tonight! |
I just checked - 59 cents a pound on sale around here (1.19 at the other store) - oh well. And I have to buy three big ones, one for Tday, one for the freezer and one for the food pantry. |
I get mine free from a psychiatric hospital where I volunteer with Patch - a 10 lb Butterball. I also get a steak dinner with all the trimmings. A nursing home where we volunteer gives us a frozen apple pie. All I have to cook are the vegetables, mashed potatoes, and waa laaaa. Sorry for bragging - but just had to. ![]() |
If you hang out at toll plaza 14B on the New Jersey Turnpike, you might get a fresh hen free. ![]() |
Last couple of years I've been wanting to have the local grocery store roast my turkey.......keep forgetting to get my order in time. |

I love the food of Thanksgiving and Christmas......I need to EXERCISE....NOW! ![]() |
I heard today that the average turkey price across the country is $1.69. They also said that central Ohio had some of the lowest Turkey prices around.
SEE-- we have the OHIO STATE BUCKEYES and LOW price TURKEYS.... Maybe I shouldn't put both of those in one sentence. ![]() |
.99 per pound for fresh turkeys and .39 for frozen. I'd stock up if I had a freezer. ![]() |
You guys make me feel terrible that you know prices so well. I would bet I shop more at the store than EVERYONE on this thread, and I realize that's a bold statement, and I have no idea what the price of ANY meat is. This makes me want to pay attn more!!!
I mean, I look if it's something I know is known to be expensive (like fish and buying a cut of meat I normally don't buy), and I try to buy the cheaper of my choices, use 30-50 coupons each visit which is an overstuffed basket full 1-2 a week, but have no idea what the actual PRICES are. ...just that I may have used a .50 coupon. If I were making the turkey this year, I know I have to get it no matter the price, so ...price is not important b/c I have to buy it. That's at least how I've always looked at it. ![]() |
Yeah and with necessities sometimes it's better not to know. LOL
I mean, it's insane to pay even 2 or 3 dollars a pound for something you all are getting SO incredibly much cheaper, but really, I don't care, I'm still going to buy that 22 lb turkey because everyone loves it and it's a lot of work to not have leftovers, that's the best part! LOL |
