Need Barbie help

Well, it's that hideous time of year again, when I have to Christmas shop for my siblings' ever expanding brood, bah humbug!

My mother has to send me a cheat sheet of their ages and so on with suggestion for gifts. Normally I just buy them books in the hopes that some of them may actually grow up to be literate. This year she suggested a Barbie doll for my sole niece, soon to be five year old Nani, whom I am actually quite fond of given her striking resemblance to Sybil, but I digress.

Anyway, snickers were implied on my mother's part, knowing how the blonde bimbo upsets my feminist sensibilities (Barbie, not my niece, who being of mixed race is anything but blonde and will with any luck grow up to rule small countries in her spare time)

Annoyed by my mother's derision I decided that I will indeed get her a Barbie. Now the challenge: I need to find a Barbie set with a dog theme.

I thought I was onto something when I found Barbie raising a small litter of puppies. But the puppies are clearly mixed breed, the dam nothing I can identify using AKC breed standards and so I thought that would send Nani the wrong message. I was rather impressed with the tiny newspapers included to littertrain the puppies though.

Dog Park Barbie, though her usually subhumanly pencil thin thing herself, nonetheless sports an overweight Basset <?> mix. That promotes the wrong image right there. There are enough overweight dogs in the world.

Dog trainer Barbie trains toy breeds so small my aging eyes need a magnifying glass to see them (so how do I know they didn't just skip the dogs and have her training fleas? Not something I want my niece to aspire to) Plus she's not training them for anything useful like Search & Rescue cadaver dogs, or even obedience or agility dogs, but rather, apparently for some kind of circus act.

Several circuses have already bid on my niece. Don't want to encourage that.

There are a number of Barbie "Dog Doctor" themed blondies, and they really aren't bad. But I'm pretty sure I already got her one of those.

There's a nice Barbie Pet Owner which comes with its own pet scooper - that sends a nice message about responsible dog ownership - the dog comes with his own kibble and (premade) poop, apparently one and the same and based on the pictures it looks like you can input it in one end and it comes out the other. I have to admire the realism there and the dog actually resembles a lab. But he (his name is Tanner) is sporting a pink lead and collar. What self-respecting hunting dawg would be caught dead in pink? So far he's got my tentative vote, but I'm still looking for something like:

Dog Show Barbie:

Comes preassembled with bits of gray and white dog hair on her clothing and stuck in her hair which she hasn't brushed in two days because she's spent that time bathing and blow drying her Old English Sheepdog registered as Barbie's You Want Me to Do What, call name Snooze.

Also comes with a super duper blow dryerpowerful enough to blow the leaves off her neighbor's lawn, a grooming table, grooming arm, boots in assorted colors (for the dog, Barbie has grannie shoes so Snooze doesn't pull her over on the go around. If she can wake him up that long) 14 different crates to fit all occasions, 13 big boxes full of grooming products, 12 different ugly show outfits that are color coordinated to match her dog but make her look like the living dead, all have pockets, a grooming smock with torn pockets (no comments needed) an assortment of show leads, and a red ribbon to toss in the trash as she leaves the ring. Ken and the mini-van to lug all her crap around and the former to listen to her bitch how the judge is obviously visually impaired to the point of needing a white cane and a perch to hang upside down off all purchased separately.

There's already an Agility Barbie, apparently. (caution, slow to load; http://web.archive.org/web/200406020956 ... om/AB.html ) though I've never found her in stores.

Any ideas?

OMG when I saw the title and the poster I knew I was in for a treat :)

Here's the thing, whatever message you think you are sending she will only get one - I GOT A BARBIE!!!!

How about getting a nice mixed race Barbie - (jess always loved her non-white Barbies and they have quite a few now) and - yes this requires further shopping - add a miniature dog of your choice. In other words creat the perfect Barbie package. Face it its only the clothes (and yes the tiny shoes) she really cares about :)

And shop online - much easier.
HAHAHA!

Kristine your feminist sensibilities should be opposed to gender role stereotypes, even for dogs. Embrace the pink, Tanner!!

Actually I'm just categorically opposed to pink. Period

I'm still working on the rest. Not easy to find minature serious grooming equipment and so on

She may just play with the doll, but I'll feel better for her having the dogs. Plus then I'll have something to play with when I visit. :sidestep:

This is kind of fun!

Maybe I can find Barbie a change of clothing that is functional and NOT pink. And the high heels have GOT to go

Kristine
There are two Barbies having her being a Vet! One set is better than the other.....bigger medicine bag, a nice sized stuffed dog, a sethoscope, etc...but doen't come with a doll. Your niece probably already has that anyway.

http://www.epinions.com/prices/Kid_Designs_Barbie_Pet_Doctor_Beagle

and of course the others, probably mentioned above

That looks like a good Barbie. :D

While Barbies have their issues, they are still MILES ahead of those nasty Bratz dolls!

Bre is a good kid, and plays well with her barbies. She also has a play dog set (agility version) and they all play together. Of course both have been severely depleted by chewing dogs.....

On the pink note - I know you have a wonderful pink lead - never mind that it says "one of us is a bitch"

And Maggie is proud of her pink collar. She hunts with all male redbones and proudly wears her pink accessories - and yes, color blind Todd knows she really is wearing pink!

With the number of dogs I propose to give her Barbie may need her own fulltime vet!

That amounts to husband abuse in my book, but I won't tell if you don't

For the record my "One of us is a bitch" leash is a deep rose, not <urp> bubblegum pink! 8)

What agility set does Breanna have?

Kristine
I can't remember the brand - I think it came from TSC, or Fleet farm. She got it as a gift.

I did a quick search online, and I didn't find it. :(
It was amazing - like 50 pieces!
We have a barking sheepdog from a Barbie accessories. My kids decided to hang on to that when thinning out the Barbie stuff.
Darn I miss all the fun!! :P

Why cant you guys do all this fun posting in the dead of your nights so I'm awake to join in?

When I saw a post from Kristine with Barbie in the title I nearly choked on my coffee. 8O

Then I thought oh it will be something to do with the important Aussie summer tradition of standing around a fire on blazing hot day whilst prodding sausages and steaks (prawns if you're Hoges, the rest of us would NEVER ruin a good prawn that way) with a pair of tongs. Yes we are masochists, the hotter the day the more keen we are to have a barbie. That's a barbeque for those of you not up on aussie slang.

But no it actually is to do with Barbie. I definitely go with the mixed race Barbie and you could always raid the Barbie hairdressing kit for grooming gear but you'll have to put up with PINK.

I remember several years ago there was a Barbie WITH an OES! But I can't remember what the theme was. I wonder if you google up Barbie & something to do with the history you might find it. Have you checked E-bay?
Wal-Mart gift card - and call it a day. :sidestep:

We still have the OES...I am going to post the picture tonight.

OK...it is pending approval. My teenage daughters might be persuaded to part with it Kristine...and it is in perfect condition. It barks and pants too.

Agility Barbie: Unlike most slim, attractive versions of Barbie, this Barbie is quite muscular from hauling very heavy A-frames, seesaws, tunnels, and dogwalks. She can carry an A-frame panel with one arm and set up all of the contact obstacles single handedly.

Barbie comes complete with a full set of agility equipment, lawn chair, cooler, stopwatch, battery operated fans, an open-sided tent for shade, sunscreen, bug-spray, rain suit, waterproof boots, 57 different agility rule books for all occasions, and her very own courier (Ken) who can hand deliver agility entries to the most popular trials and stand in the queue for Barbie.

Ken also helps set up the equipment. Barbie also comes with her own agility dog, Border Collie 'ADCH, MACH, S-NATCH Runaround's Speed Demon etc, etc, etc, 'Contact'. Trailer for hauling agility equipment sold separately.

Obedience Barbie: Barbie comes with a training bag full of gear, a set of utility articles, a full set of regulation obedience jumps, her own lawn chair, cooler, a subscription to Front and Finish, and her very own obedience Golden Retriever OTCh Sparklepond's Shorestepper's Heelalong Fool (better known as Two-hundred.)

Accessories such as HIT ribbons and high scoring club plaques can be purchased separately.

Herding Barbie: This very popular Barbie comes with her very own authentic drover coat, Stetson cowboy hat, several pair of cowboy boots, waterproof boots for very inclement weather, silk long johns, wool socks, and a monogrammed staff. Much like Tracking Judge Barbie, this version of Barbie has perpetual 'bad hair', so be prepared to leave the cowboy hat on at all times. Also included is her very own monogrammed stretcher so that she can be carried out of the arena when the sheep run over her.

Barbie comes with her own Sheltie, Round 'em Up' s Chaser HI (Yapper). Yapper comes with her own gold-plated chain so that she can be hooked up to the barbed wire fence with all the Cattle Dogs and Border Collies (barbed wire fence not included). Barbie also comes with several sheep, cows, and ducks, making her one of the more expensive Barbies.

Show-dog Barbie: Comes complete with hair proof power breed ring suit with matching leads for the dogs, apron for grooming, x-pen, mats, crate for dog, grooming equipment, blower, and a lifetime supply of hairspray. She also comes with prize show poodle, Ch. B & K's Showstopper, affectionately known as Puffy.

Also comes complete with warning sign, 'Please do not pet the dog' in an attempt to keep the show grooming intact.

The van for show weekends is sold separately.

Four wheel drive Sport Utility Vehicles and Mini Vans complete with dog crates are sold separately for all versions of Barbie.

You're right, of course

Mind you, Ali, I don't own a pair of jeans either for more than three weeks before the pockets are devoured :?

I was laying here last night and saw Delilah coming out of the bathroom with what i thought was a towel. I said WHAT are you doing???? and got up and no, it was my jeans............

This is the first time she has ever done this!!!lol Of course she also was 'sucking' on her monkey yesterday too. First time since Duncan died. Only the 2 of them ever touched that monkey and she won't let the babies touch it.
