Maggie McGee and Gertie went last year and we hope to get a bigger group of sheepies this year.

WHO'S INTERESTED IN TAILGATING BEFOREHAND? We could bring lunch and meet before the parade.

Tailgating beforehand??
Are we going to see pics of the drunken Reindogs??

Seriously, have a blast!!
Count Gertie and myself in. Maybe we could do a group costume .
Here's a pic from last year. Gertie and Nelson were leading the parade and obviously quite popular....
Image

There were some other OES there that we didn't recognize. There were so many dogs and people that we didn't get to meet everyone and ask them to join oes.org. Maybe this year???
Wow, that looks like fun!

Gertie, you mentioned doing the 12 days of Christmas. Phoebe and Kippy will be "A partridge in a pear tree" if we decide to go with that theme.
Any other theme ideas?
Either that or Charlie Brown Christmas or "The Grinch Christmas".. Any other ideas. I also thought that Nelson could be Santa and all the other OES could be deers???

I love those antler hats you suggested! Wish we knew who those other OES were last year. Still, there probably weren't 12 there so not sure what we'd do. :lmt:
I vote for Santa and the deers. It would be so much easier and it would make a cute theme. Do you want to post what we will be or should I?
Also we should get with Nancy and see what she wants to do for the tailgate party.
Erin
I'm going up to Eden Park tomorrow to scout out a location to meet and to see if there are any shelters.
As far as food: How about everyone bringing their own maindish/sandwich and drink and then bring one thing to share ex. veggie tray, cookies, chips and salsa, baked beans, etc.
Let me know about the costumes.
I'll only be bringing Phoebe and Kippy, the Maltipoo. Chuck is having his hip replaced on Dec. 1 and I can't handle both OES by myself in a crowd.
OMG!!! They're naked!!!
Took the dogs to their second visit with a new groomer. Was asked if I wanted them done the same way as before. I'm thinking heads and faces so I said, "Yes". The last time they were professionally groomed was in August when they got sheared.
So, they got sheared again yesterday. Imagine my shock. I'm expecting snowy white and fluffy and I get sheared.
So no big fluffy dogs for the holiday card picture and no big fluffy dog for the Reindog Parade.
On the bright side, I won't have to spend so much time on brushing and I won't have to get them professionally groomed for MONTHS.
Good thing that they have fleeced lined raincoats.
I have found Reindeer gear for Gertie, its at inthecompanyofdogs.com. So if we all agree can we go ahead with the theme of Nelson as Santa and the rest of the dogs can be reindeer.

Erin

Erin, is this the $19.95 Reindeer Gear with the antler hood and ankle bells?
http://www.inthecompanyofdogs.com/itemd ... o=1&pos=10
That sounds like a good idea to me. I'll order today if this is what you are talking about.
Yes, that's the one. I was going to spruce it up a little. Can we vote on a go ahead for this theme?

Yes, from Phoebe and I.
Sounds great to us!

I just ordered antlers for Sassy and Angel and notice that the smaller sizes are backordered! Better get the size large before they're gone, too.
We are planning to attend our first such parade with Molly. Would like any and all info regarding and what to expect, for form our itinerary.
Please contact us at notpresbush@Yahoo.com looking to hear. Mike

Are you going to the one in Cincinnati (Mt. Adams)? Various cities around the country also have similar parades but I've only been to the one in Cincinnati, which is a fundraiser for the local SPCA. Admission was free but most people were donating at least $5 each. :-)

First and most importantly, be sure your dog is good with all types of other dogs and people. It was very crowded last year and any type of misbehavior would not have been tolerated. Dogs were judged on their costumes in their size category before the parade started and prizes were given out at the end of the parade. The parade route was through the streets of Mt. Adams and a lot of spectators and participants filled the streets and sidewalks. Last year Gertie's mom brought large bags of candy and we tossed pieces to the kids along the route. It was an easy enough route for most any dog and handler to complete easily.

People had dogs pulling wagons, little dogs in strollers, all kinds of wacky costumes, lots of Santa hats and antlers, you name it. Some dogs and their people were just there to enjoy the day and didn't bother with a costume. The weather happened to be very nice for December but was grateful for my gloves and silly hat.

If you decide to go, be sure your dogs is current on vaccinations. Of course, having a sturdy leash (no retractable leashes!) and collar with ID tags is a given. Bring treats, water and a bowl for your dog. Poop bags are a must as nobody wants to follow a dog who's had an accident in the street. 8O

Did everyone receive their antlers?? I had to make adjustments to Gertie's, I think her head is a tad to big for the head piece.
I will be passing candy to the young ones again this year.

Nancy if you want to bring Winston Doug can walk him. :D

Erin/Gertie
No antlers here yet :-( We have others already that aren't as cool but will work in a pinch.

Still got to find Nelson's Santa suit. I had maribou feather boa trim sewed to his doggy raincoat last year and took it off after the parade. Grrrrr! That stuff isn't easy to sew on.

I think Yvonne is going to walk Winston and leave Wild Angel at home. There's just going to be too many dogs in close proximity for her to be comfortable.

Got mine. Winston's head is way too big. I think that I can add to the chinstrap.
Thanks for Doug's offer. Yvonne, Nita's sister, is going to walk him.
Chuck is doing well but in no way up for the parade.
I added to the chin strap it helps the fit.

Erin/Gertie

Calm down, you still have five days to make it. It's on the 12th which is THIS coming weekend.

I doubt that we'll be there. Bentley got a pretty bad ear infection that warranted a visit to the Vet last Saturday and his return visit to the Vet is scheduled for Saturday morning and I work until noon.

Vance
WE MISSED THE PARADE HERE LAST WEEKEND, AND GUESS WE WON'T BE MAKING THE ONE THERE EITHER...........SORRY,
BUT THANKS FOR CORRECTING ME.......IT'S APPRCIATED.
WOW THAT IS GREAT! Will have to get one started here!
Gertie and Nelson were so adorable! they were stars for the day
Don't forget LOTS OF PICTURES................!

Hope Bentley is better soon.
He's already getting better and I'd be fine with bringing him down but I don't like to miss Vet appointments and with my schedule, I can't reschedule.

Have fun and take as many photos as you can for us who can't go...

Vance
What time are we meeting??? Who is bring what for the tailgating???

and please ~ pictures!!
We had a great day today at the Reindog Parade! The weather was better than expected; sunny, calm and above freezing. 8)

All seven OES and handlers in our group showed up and we met three more sheepies from Dayton, OH. Some will recall a video from two years ago and these were the dogs dressed as clowns. All ten OES were walking in a group and got lots of "oohs" and "aahs" from the crowd.

Sheepie2 and Patch won a $25 gift certificate in the handler-dog lookalike competition. (gotta be the gray hair!) Made it worth the drive to Cincinnati from Louisville, KY for them.

Last but not least, Yvonne's friend Fred took TONS of photos so we hope to be posting them soon. There may be a few others taken but most of us were busy adjusting antlers and Santa hats. :-) As I type this I have two sleeping dogs and one sleeping husband that are exhausted from the big day. :-) :-) :-)
The weather was nearly perfect for the parade. It was a lot of fun. Winston and Phoebe are asleep, too. I'm looking forward to Fred's pictures.
Nancy, thank you for getting us all together, it was a lot of fun. The weather was beautiful and Cincinnati never looked so good. I want to buy a Victorian house in Mt Adams overlooking the River and Kentucky. the look alike contest was easy with our white hair. Nelson should have won the best dressed as Santa dog. Our dogs all looked adorable and seemed to enjoy the day. Also, Nancy, the chili was delicious, I probably could have eaten more, but didn't want to embarass myself - thank you for your generous hospitality. I look forward to meeting up with everyone again soon.

Patch has had dinner, drank a gallon of water, a few treats, took her walk, and now is finding a spot to sleep for the night, parading up and down those hills and dales cut into her 22-hour daily nap.
Sounds like a lot of fun!! Can't wait to see pics!
Molly is sorry we couldn't make the trip, but is anxious to see pics of her fellow Reindog sheepies.
Here are a few pictures taken at the Reindog Parade Saturday:

THE PICTURES ARE GREAT TO SEE, HOPE THERE IS MORE, Just wondering where all the antlers where as planned?
Fred, thanks for sharing the photos, they are great! We all certainly had a fun time - even the weather was perfect. Thanks again for posting the photos.
Very nice!!
Thanks for making post #3, Yvonne with the pictures - you rock!! 8)
