Yes. The hair between the pads.

If you want to be very precise and scientific about it you can refer to it as the hair between the pads.

I remove them, either with blunt nose scissors or a clipper. Some times both. If not you risk build-up of foreign objects (and dirt) and moisture. Plus when long it covers the pads to varying degrees and impedes traction.

Being insanely research orientated I decided to do a quick web check to see if there indeed was a name for that hair - haven't found one yet, but this really made me laugh:
"Although all dog paws are basically the same, some are shaped slightly differently than others. Many breed standards specify "cat feet," which are the result of short third digital bones. These compact feet require less energy to lift, allowing the dog to conserve energy and increase his endurance in the field. Akita, Doberman Pinscher, Giant Schnauzer, Kuvasz, Newfoundland, Airedale Terrier, Bull Terrier, Keeshond, Finnish Spitz, and Old English Sheepdog are among the breeds with catlike, compact feet."

I for one would not want to meet that cat.....
Or trim between its pads 8O :twitch: :sidestep:

Kristine  8)
and the Sammy people this weekend were in amazement at Chewie's huge pads and the amount of mud he kicks off with his super-sized "thrusters" on takeoff! 8O 8)
I posted this question on a veterinary site and got a reply from one of the veterinarians: "There is no specific name for the hair. Interdigital hair would be the medically descriptive term."

Medical terminology is such a crack up.

Interdigital literally translates to between the digits ie toes so what they've said is its called "hair between the toes".

LOL I thought it was "D*** hair between the pads that picks up every speck of mud and gunk and tracks it into the house"
