Update on my classic car...

I haven't shared much about my car lately, so I thought I'd share a few tidbits. Some of you may remember that I got a 74 roadrunner for my anniversary (I may have done some campaigning to make that happen...) and then almost couldn't register it.

But, we eventually prevailed, and I became the proud LEGAL owner of Sam Winchester Roadrunner.

We did some minor stuff ourselves, and my husband's cousin is a mechanic who invited us to bring him to the garage he works at for a weekend to do whatever was left, and to get it safetied. With Portage's medical issues, we kept pushing it back. My plan was to store it for the winter and not register it until the spring anyway.

But, we got it down there on Thurs, and the work began...I cannot describe how appreciative of this I am. The use of the shop space and tools alone was fantastic. Several other mechanics who worked there popped in and out over the day yesterday. One worked on Sam's carb (can't spell the rest of that one) just 'cuz it was fun. Parts have been ordered at cost, and all the work was done for free. (Okay, a large bottle of rye to the owner, and some gift cards to go out to dinner for two of the mechanics.) Unbelievable! What a great bunch of guys. We kept a running tally of the work completed so far, and with the number of people involved (my hubby and my father in law we counted as free), we figure we would easily have had a three thousand dollar bill for labour alone. How did I get so lucky? Apparently "car guys" really are great guys!

So, we're waiting for a few more parts, and he should be back with us at the end of the week, safetied and ready to drive...yay! His fancy paintjob will be the first order of business in the spring.

Since winter is bound to be here in the next week or so and I don't plan on driving him in the snow I may not get to have him on the road at all until the spring, but that's fine. He's coming along so well. I keep waiting for "something to go horribly wrong" but we seem to have been pretty lucky. Even the worst impending disasters seem to have been manageable...hope I didn't just jinx myself by sharing that publicly!

I don't have any pictures to post, but I will have to get on that soon.

Sounds good. Your crew did a better job (timewise) than the guy working on Todd's car. It's been there over a year, and Todd is very VERY peeved! Todd has done all the part ordering too, and brought the stuff right to him.... sore subject at our house. :(

Oh, and his car is a red and white 2 door 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie. He has had it since he was in HS, so it has huge sentimental value!
Wow they are nice guys!!
Cant wait to see pics of Sam. :D
