Weight? Do I have a fatboy?

How much does your full grown male weigh? We went to the vet and I officially have a "fatboy" dog  But we've been trying for months to lose weight but he just kept gaining. We are now doing a thryoid test.

I know the ideal weight is when you can feel the ribs but not see them. Been a long time since we felt any ribs around this house

So how much does your dog weigh????

It can vary SO much within this breed.... differences in height, length, bone structure, mucsle mass etc... really no way to pin down an average. Each dog has their own ideal weight.

Panda is usually about 65 lbs but has gained 20 lbs during her pg 8O
Piper is about 60 lbs but is lean, she's still young too, only 16 months so she will fill out a bit more and probably finish around 65 lbs. Willy is not even 9 months yet and weighs 80 lbs. He's solid muscle and bone, no fat, so I think he will finish close to 100 lbs.
As Stacey said - a huge variation is possible.
Not feeling the ribs is way too fat. :( :(

Chewie is 23 1/2 inches and a lean 67 pounds.
Sister Martha is a tad over 21 inches and 55 pounds.

Martha appears to be carrying more condition than Chewie, but he is a lot more muscled. When Chewie was showing he was right around 70 , but had bit of a paunch when I clipped him down. And he was lacking the condition he has now. He feels/looks like he weighs a lot less than 3 pounds under his previous weight - the muscle just weighs more.
Oh I have a FatBoy as well!! He is on the larger side all over - a lot of bone as well. His weight has varied from 110 to 130 at the top end. Right now I guess he may be a little less than 115. Ideally I think 105 for him. But as was said there is great variation - My girls is about 3 inches shorter and weighs in at about 65 lbs. and is lean. I also had a very lean 125 lb male in the past.
Toby was 110 and was perfect weight for him. Do you know what the parents weight is?
Clyde is is shaped liked a big fat kidney bean these days. I'm actually a little worried about his thyroid because he seems to have fattened up without too much help. He eats the same and is exercising more and he's still tubbed out.
Two males, they are 96 and 92 lbs.

One female porker - she's the short one and still 91-93 lbs.

I call them 300 lbs of lazy:

wow! 80! I had them weighed last night and laika is 77 lbs and Langley 62 lbs and they both need to lose. No ribs. Tonight I cut back the food. Nut wow Langley is so small compaired to willy. Can there be such a difference in brothers? Will he catch up you think?
Most of Mo's life she's been 60-65, but since developing tender tummy she's up to about 72, the porker. Jack, the baby cow, at his thinnest was 107, Last vet he was around 115. Reaching down here........he feels about right, so he might have dropped a few pounds.
I guess it depends on structure...
Quin was a muscular, stocky boy and topped 110..
( little too heavy but, he carried it well)
I would have had him on diet food had he not developed
Lymphoma, which was odd that he never lost weight from.
He actually was down to 90 at one point and the vet said he
needed to pick up some weight..he was just a big boy!
I have the "freak" of the OES world
Murphy is 32 inches at withers and only 80 lbs...

There is no set rule on weight on these guys. Alot depends on overall size & bone size. I have a father/son here at home. Son is more "upright" than dad so everyone thinks he weighs more. Not so. Dad (95#) outweighs son by 10#. Son is a bit lighter boned than dad. Then there is my girl. She looks a lot smaller because she is of course shorter than the boys (as she should be) but at her best she underweighs "son" (not her's) by only 5# (80#). Why? She is very heavlily boned & well muscled. And that is on a diet of kibble cut with green beans & only 1 small biscuit at each meal! And she is an extremeley active dog for her 9-1/2 years. Vet says of the 3 she is in the best shape! He was surprised when he looked at her chart & saw her age. 8O My other girl (gone now almost 2 years) held her weight nice & steady at 85# her entire life until the last 6 months when she dropped to about 75#. Then I have a girl in a show home who visits regularly who stands almost 1 head taller than my girl, nice bone, very active & she has a hard time keeping her weight up to 70#!!!! So go figure. The most important thing I have noticed over the years is tht most companion vets tend to push "lean" on their clients. I definitely don't like to see a dog overweight but sometimes I think "thin" isn't the best thing either. Know of one in a pet home that was so concerned about hip problem in the future (this dog was from totally different lines & different breeder than their previous one) that they underfed the dog. When they were having some behavior problems we found out the dog was about 15# underweight for his overall size & bone structure. Once the weight went on he improved greatly (he wasn't hungry all the time!). Weight & size can vary greatly within a litter also. Remember you are looking not only at parents but grandparents & great grandparents & so on down the line.

I think the raw feeding just slows his growth down. I'm not sure if he is smaller because he is just meant to be smaller or if he will catch up later with slower maturity.
Langley was extremely tiny at birth, only 7 ounces, but Willy wasn't much bigger, I think about 7.25 or 7.5 ounces. Smallest puppies I've ever seen, but all perfectly healthy and normal, strong little guys from the start. I'll take happy and healthy over size any day :)
