Possible new adoption

One of our clients @ my vet clinic rescued a sheepie. Just a few weeks prior had to say goodbye to their 16 year old beagle...so them taking in a 1 yr old sheepie was not what they were expecting/ready for. So since I have one and have been wanting to get him a sibling, they offered her to me. She's already house broken, spayed, up to date on vaccines and all that, & they did a blood profile on her.

I'm very excited but before we can say yes we need to introduce her and Riley. I think he will be fine because he tends to do well but if you've read any of my other posts you know my concern in that he scares the other dogs away w/ the hopping he does. I'm hoping that because she is also a sheepie this won't be as big a concern as I'm thinking it could be. I will definitely be making sure that I have an extra set of hands on stand by just in case he surprises me.

I plan on doing this on neutral ground, but any other helpful hints to introducing??? I'd really like this to go well and to have him be able to have a sister. :crossed:

You might be surprised! Since she's a girl & girls "rule", she just might put him in his place right off the bat! If he's like any of the other boys, he'll be enarmored of her & figure out right away how to fit into her picture!
Good luck. :crossed: I hope she and Riley like each other.
What's her name?
Good Luck!!!
I bet they will fall in love right away
Sheepies surprise ya at how well they bond!
this sounds great. And its true; I see sheepies at the park and suddenly they are all pals; they really do seem to want to bond to one another. And sheepies hop (or bounce); so maybe the new sister will also be hoppy! Good luck!
Good luck! I'm sure they will do great together. When we introduced Asterisk to Wendel it was at his previous home (my breeder). Wendel walked right past Asterisk and sat next to Josh for some affection. Asterisk was very excited to see him and before long they were running and playing.
Thanks! I definitely am feeling the nerves start to settle...and am getting hopeful.

She's a year old and has her tail (which will be new for me w/ the hair). Her name is Sofia but I'd probably change it because I can't help but think of the Golden Girls, lol. :D
Good luck!! I bet they will be pals!! :D
why not go from "Sophia" to "Sophie"? You lose the Golden Girl connotation, and she gets to keep the name that is relatively familiar to her? My friend's dog is a "Sophie" and it really rolls off the tongue.
I was thinking of that. Either that or a name that starts the same.
Well the meeting was a bust. As it turns out my little boy is more possesive of me than I thought. He got highly upset if I even petted the other dog. Then the little growls w/ the jaw chomping noise started.

The way it was looking if we were to take her, there was no guarantee they'd get along. And there would be a fight for dominence bc she was standing her ground. With them being older, someone would get hurt.

So if any new dog is to come in they'd have to be a puppy...and sadly we're not ready to potty train again. =(
I'm sorry it didn't work out :(
In my life time we have rescued our share of dogs and fostered our share also. Samson our newest edition, towers over the rest of our dogs and in a short time they are all became a happy bunch. I always take my crew out for a good long hard run before a new addition comes to the home. They have a way better attitude and it is easier to introduce their new friend. The sniff test is always important, let them get a nose full makes a huge difference IMHO. We just received our kennel license, not to raise dogs but so we can have more on our property. (foster dogs)
