Crate size

What size wire crate is recommended for an adult OES. I have a 5 month old female that I need to buy a crate for and I want to get the adult size now.

Most of our female OES fosters fit comfortably in a 42" wire crate. If you have plenty of room in your home and will use the crate regularly after your pup is grown, consider a 48" crate. If the crate is too large you can put a divider in it to deter potty accidents until she's grown.
I agree. 42 should be fine. I have a 48 for the Pyrs, but it's now Jack's and he's a big boy......still plenty of room. In fact I have found Jack and Glacier Pyr in it together 8O both standing/sitting waiting for their reward cookie.

An overly large crate will allow the dog to mentally segregate an area for a bathroom, hence the suggestion to partition a portion off. If you examine a naturally dug dog den, they are not palatial.
Is the 42 inch high enough for a grown female to sit comfortably? I'm just trying to decide between 48 or 42 for my girl, Rosie. She is almost 6 months old, and weighs over 45 pounds. My only hesitation is we don't have a big house, so the 48 inch crate currently in my kitchen/dining area is taking up a lot of room and I thought maybe the 42 inch would be adequate for her and allow more space in my house. But I don't want to cut her short on space if most people recommend a 48 inch. My husband and I are both gone all day for work, but we have a neighbor and family who let her out 1-2 times a day for 20 or more minutes to run around. She doesn't sleep in the crate at night because she is house broken enough to sleep on the floor in our bedroom.
A 42" crate should be fine for a female or even a standard sized male. My 2 yr. old female can actually fit comfortably in a 36" crate for short periods of time. I feel your pain with the space issues.
just something to think about---the kennels with the 2 doors, one on the end and the other on the side. I wish I had bought that kind. Two times my babies were sick/unconscious and I had to try to wiggle in and get them out. I do not know if anyone out there has used this kind with the two doors or how they hold up.
