Was 11 months a hard age for you all?

Chiquita is pushing every last one of our buttons. If she knows she's not to do it....yup, that's what she's doing.

She seems like she's very bored. For the life of me I can't understand it. I grew up with a dog that liked nothing more than being in the backyard looking at the neighbors. Sadly, we never walked that dog  That dog maybe had a toy, mabey had a bone mabey got played with every day...loved but dare I say, a dog.

Chiquita confounds me. She has toys for inside and toys for outside. A big back yard. Two walk/runs a day. Play time with us and with her doggy friend. And still BORED and agitated. Why?

I read an article on line today that said excessive barking and acting out can be rooted in too much love and attention. Do you all think this is the problem? Is she too accustomed to getting our attention as much as she wants?

We kept both of our OES' exercised and we're very active people (our dogs go everywhere with us) and no 11 months was not a challenging age for us. 8 wks - 2 yrs was challenging.

I just want you to know that I am not only presently but have been at that same place you are with our OES'. I have to admit that with BOTH, I wanted to give up too. ...but it does get better if you keep up everything you are doing. For us, it was a night and day switch once our oldest became an "adult." I've also heard the same thing 100 times on here.

This is by far the most stubborn breed I've owned. Yet we come back because everything else about them is wonderful. :)

It depends on when you give the love and attention. It's supposed to be on your schedule, not hers. If she's pawing you or acting out to get attention, you don't want to oblige her or you'll be teaching her this is the way to get exactly what she wants. I believe dogs learn from trial and error just like us... they are always looking for what works.
it takes to 2 years to calm down,. our last oes Katy was exactly 2 and she just suddenly grew up. She destroyed so many things and was so wilful. Summer has been easier but then again we are all at home now, but she is still a wild child at heart, I think that is the breed and that is why I love oes....x
11 months can be a difficult age for some dogs... testing the boundaris and you is common.

I really wanted to give some smart alec reply like "no not at all in fact I have a pic of me at 11 months drinking beer"
I don't recall any issues at that age. (ducks and runs.... 8) )
I have 3 dogs that are 3 1/2 right now, and we had 2 of them from puppyhood going thru all the stages together, the 3rd one came here at a little over 1 yr old. Plus the others that are older.... :)

But, I did want to reply to the question if you were over spoiling her or not with all the toys, activities, etc.
It was addressed above by Jaci (6girls) as I was going to reply - it depends on the way you interact, more than the amount you interact.
My dogs have a ton of toys and do lots of activities with us. But, it is us initiating things and on the human's terms at our house.
2 walks/runs a day was not enough for our boy at that age. I would take him out 3 times, but if all three were just walks he would still have too much energy. Now he's 2, we can get away with one morning walk and a 5mile RUN in the evening- as long as we take him just before we settle down at 7 then we get a peaceful night. I think our boy has huge amounts of energy though. It's normal for an oes at that age. I got a bike just so I could tire him out (work up to long distances slowly) and I've not looked back since, I can't run fast enough to make him tired! Find something that's fun and will use lots of energy, but you want to be careful with the hips at that age, work up to speed/ stamina very slowly.

hahahahaaaaa.

Thanks for the replies. Chiquita has also added spraying in the house  Very odd for a neutered GIRL. It seems to be a phase. The barking has quieted down a tad bit with more runs and more play time with her doggy friend.

Ahhh, puppies. What a unique challenge but so worth the effort
