Our focus has been teaching him "how to" jump, to really reinforce our 2-on-2-off contacts and our "here" recall. Plus we were spreading our charm around like a cheap Ho at different facilities to simulate our own Show n' Go's to combat the excitement. I have really seen some improvement at class. Unfortunately we were sidelined with a pulled muscle a few weeks ago so we did not get to see how he is doing in trials. Friday we had a trial. I saw some big improvements but he is still dropping the occasional bars out of excitement and being focused on the next more exciting obstacle - FAST and Standard classes. Our JWW was a complete disaster. All three classes proved we are digressing in our wait at the start lines - he "waited" for the least little movement from me but NOT for his release word and he was off and running. During Friday's FAST class he racked up enough points but failed to do the send area when he could not complete the last jump on the jump-tunnel-jump sequence. BUT I was able to recall him out of the wrong end of the tunnel which was a testament to our "here" training efforts. Saturday I entered him in FAST only. The send area was a choice of a tunnel to a jump (where we failed the day before) or a jump to a tunnel. But the second option did not flow so we had to work out a crazy inner circle course to approach the send area straight on in order to make the jump into tunnel work. There was no flow at all for our finish but we needed the send bonus for our Q. My classmate and I were the only ones who took the second option on the send bonus out of fifty entries. We had worked on this type of sequence (tunnel to jump) in class. All the dogs in class struggled with it except Harry who got it on the second attempt and thereafter. But because of the previous day's trial failure I was hesitant to try it again. So that is why the two of us decided for the sure thing: jump to tunnel. The good news is my classmate Q'd in Novice and then in Open ......... we Q'd! Harry got his first leg in Open FAST!!!! |

I think "self control" is a little generous. You have seen him run. Or were you referring to me? |
Nice job !!! |

Thanks everyone.
I am a little nervous about this impulse control training. It just seems like we are staring at a mountain after we have managed to climb so many steep hills. I feel as though I am running out of steam. I needed this Q as an incentive. But a clean run at a trial in Standard or JWW seems to be so elusive. I appreciate everyone's support. |
We are very proud of you and Harry. You have put a lot of time and effort into this and it is showing!! |
