Accupuncturist

Need help,
We own a 13 year old sheepdog named Bailey. She is a wonderful dog but has arthritis in her hind legs and spine. She takes many different meds traditional and non, I'm looking for an accunpunturist for her as her condition seems to have worsened recently, I live in the Mississauga area in Ontario, Canada. If anyone out there knows of someone who could treat her please let me know............

I don't know of any acupuncturists, however, I was wondering what meds she is on? If you don't think they are helping perhaps ask your vet to re evaluate her condition and maybe suggest something else? Most dogs do well with occasional courses of prednisone, and aspirin once or twice a day with some yogurt to coat their tummies. Shark cartilage treats can provide chondroitin and glucosamine to lubricate the joints, in a natural, inexpensive treat form. Keeping the dog warm at this time of year, not outside too long, and a big cushion to sleep on in the house, can help ease the aches as well. Welcome to the forum! :) You're not far from me, where did you get your dog?
Thanks so much for your info,
Bailey on something called actiflex-which has glucosamine, chondroitin and msm, she also takes micro lactin for pain (which i thought was helping), i also give her a natural pain reliever called devils claw or aspirin if i think she needs it. She was doing ok, but yesterday she was having even more difficulty walking around, esp. outside. I have found several #'s for acupuncturists if you were interested? Her vet has never given us very much info into the subject unfortunately.
Our 11 year old was just going threw this this week. He is on Glucosamine and that has helped immensly. The cold never bothered him before but it may be getting to him more. We added an aspirin to his normal med regimen and he does seem to be doing better.
Also make sure that her excercise level stays consitent. We all tend to pack on some winter weight and if she's gained a few pounds it may be taking some extra effort to hall those pounds around.
you could also try massage therapy along with the accupuncture,
im a clinical massage therapist, and have several people
bring their dogs to me
You may also want to consider chiropractic care for your dog. I bring our 13 year old American Eskimo to the chiropractor every six weeks. It helps his arthritis - and keeps him in good enough shape to play with our two sheepies.

By the way - I did a quick search on Google "holistic veterinarian Mississauga canada" and came up with a few possibilities. I don't know which are in your area - but it may be worth checking out.

Good luck.
