remember when your kids were young??? Heart problem....

I feel like a neglectful mother, or I may have Munchausen Syndrome or I just have the worst luck with my pups....I really hesitate to tell you all this, but I do need some advice.....

'member when your kids were little and they all seemed to get sick at the same time so you were at the doctors once or twice a week for a month??? And you felt bad that it must be your fault????

Everyone helped me so much with Pearl and I must turn to you guys again.......

OK....now onto my problem....

Last Monday, Heart 'got to' my 6 strand silver expandable bracelet made up of thin tubes, beads and some small charms. I called a friend who is a vet and was told that it should pass. Well...guess what???? It hasn't!!!! not one bead!!!!

I have been keeping a close eye on her. She is acting very normal, eating, peeing, pooping ( up to a two days ago), being a crazy, happy girl.

I either am missing her poop ...or she is NOT pooping, so I think I must take her in.

Pearl is acting great!!!!! .....but now,.....

((I have already chastised myself time and time again for having the bracelet on the work table..I SHOULD have put it away...should've, would've, could've...BUT in my defense, she hasn't counter surfed in a couple months, and right by the bracelet was a box of treats..WHY that bracelet...and WHY eat it??? I wish she could talk!!!!!!!!????))

Whatever your scent is on, she wants near her, in her mouth. Probably at first just to lick and chew...like a bone. But if it is small enough.......and the beads to resemble kibble.........down they go.

Have you tried adding a bit more bulk into her diet......even a 1/2 teaspoon Metamusil and extra broth or some such to plump up the Metamusil...?

The fact she hasn't gone is more worrysome. Is her tummy expanding, is she passing gas?

Sorry you are going thru this.......each pup has its problems.
No poops at all since Monday??
I would take her in. Sounds like it is xray time..... :(

My MIL had a Westie that insisted on eating the sequins off her Christmas tree skirt. It was an expensive, handmade gift we had bought her. Nothing could deter this dog from eating them. Finally had to put it up on a table to keep it out of her reach. Sometimes there is something used in the production of the parts that attact the dogs thru sense of smell. In the case of the sequins, we were told it was possibly an oil that was used in the production of the sequins. She left the thread, she left the fabric...only ate the sequins 8O .

It could also have something to do with your smell being on the bracelet. I had one girl who would hoard anything that had my smell on it if it was within her reach. I played "trade up" with her most of her life! And that was even after learning to put things away or up out of her reach!
I wasnt sure if I was reading your post right but if she hasnt pooped for two days then see your vet.
I tell you my dalmo story though.

My dalmo hurt his back 4 or 5 years ago and a good friend who is a vet came over to do some acupuncture for him. It was the second treatment so we sat on the couch with him with a cup of tea while he had the needles in.

The previous visit he had just lay with the needles in no probs.
This visit before we could react he reached around and pulled out a needle  we both tried to grab him, cup of tea everywhere. But no he swallowed the needle. 8O

We both couldnt believe it. Gen had her hand half way down his throat to his stomach 8O but we couldnt get the darn needle.

So long story short. One large bowl of muesli on the spot. Yummy!!! Dalmo's are piggy guts. Gen spoke to her acupuncture lecturer and the next day 6 cotton balls soaked in cod liver oil. YUMMY!!!! 8O Dalmo's are really big piggy guts.

I examined every poop in great detail. Fun - NOT. 8 days later no needle so we Xrayed. No needle visible!! :( Gen said I must have missed the needle in the poop stack. I was puzzled because I really examined those poops. :P

2 days later Ta Dah one acupuncture needle tangled in cotton wool. :yay: :excited: It was quite tragic how excited I was about a poop.

So all up it took 10 days for one tiny weeny little acupuncture needle to appear. Dalmo never appeared uncomfortable always bouncy and ready for more food.

The vet said as long as he kept pooping she wasnt that worried but even she was surprised how long it took to reappear.

Good luck in your hunting. It can be like looking for a needle in a stack.

Moral of the story: even under close vet supervision dogs can eat things they shouldnt. :D
Dont beat yourself up. Dogs eat weird things.
I'd try the cotton wool remedy first and see what happens, make them real oily before getting her to swallow them, cod liver oil or flax seed oil to soak them in, or even as susan suggested the Metamucil with broth to after to drink either will help hopefully move the braclet through her system. No pooping for another 24 hours after trying either techinique then you definately need her x-rayed to see what is going on.

Good luck in the poop autopsies hope it will pass soon and you find that glimmer in the pile.

My friends OES ate her gold earrings, it took several days till it made it out of the outlet pipe.  She finally gave the cottonwood remedy to finally retrieve her gold earrings
Then a visit to the Jeweller to have them fixed they came out quite bent, mind you she did not tell the jeweller where they had been  8)
It's time to see the vet if she's not pooing normally. Did she also eat the elastic cording or whatever the beads were strung with?

Yup. I used flavor-free clear fiber powder sprinkled over a couple slices of bread and then soaked it with water. My theory  was that it would help to bulk up the stuff going through. (Note that we did speak with the vet.) Not sure if it's a proven remedy but I used it when Bumble ate a light bulb off the Christmas tree last year... twice. We gated off the tree after that.

One time we thought one of the puppies had eaten an ornament hook. Christmas seems to be a challenging time for us! We panicked and asked for an x-ray. No hook. We got home and found it between the couch cushions

Hoping you just missed the stuff passing through.
Checking in on Heart.
Maybe she didn't swallow it and just took it to hide somewhere :? :?
Well..I guess I did miss the pooping.... cuz last night and this morning she is 'going' normally... :excited: :yay: :cheer: Pathetic life I lead, getting excited over excrement.....

anyway...all the posts are very clever....thanks for showering me with your words of wisdon and wit!!!!!!! :D :D
Yay!
Only a loving parent of a child or pet can get excited over poop :D
Only dog people will go out in the yard with a plastic bag over their hand and
squish it to search for hidden treasures... all the while hoping the neighbors
aren't watching
yep, we are so darn happy for you Val! :D :D

glad to hear she's pooping normal.

   So true

Also excitement when after the squirts the poopies are firm, what a life we all lead   , we need a "happy dancing poopie icon " 8)

Val great to hear :D
Glad to hear she's better. Been there, done that & glad I live where my neighbors are too far away to see what I am doing in the back yard / dog run!
:phew: Glad the crisis has passed :sidestep:
