Does she have flees?

I think Keira may have flees, but I'm not sure.

She is itchy like crazy. But neither of the other dogs or the cat (or us humans) are having any problems.

She's too furry for me to see down to her skin.

I think I'll give her a flee bath this weekend. Anyone have any suggestions what to use?

And if not flees, what could be doing this to her?

Deb, you can pick up a little flea comb and try to find them that way. But first order of business is flip her over so you can examine her tummy (which has less hair, yes?) for flea dirt.

It can also be allergies or just dry/flaky skin for that matter. Or she had an incidental flea on her and she's very sensitive to them or...?

Not sure what you'd treat her with if that's what she has. Hopefully someone else knows.

Tummy's a good place to start, some dogs have less hair under their muzzle too so you could look there.

My vet also recommends standing them on a white or very light colored sheet and then ruffling their coat all over. If little black specs of flea dirt fall out then its fleas. :(

He says that if a dog is really sensitive to fleas then you should use a product that kills all the life cycles. So he recommends Frontline Plus.
Also says to treat all the pets in your house as the others will have fleas too but just might not be as sensitive, so you dont realise it.

Lots of people recommend you treat the house as well or at least their bedding.

I HATE fleas. But its better than ticks.
I totally examined her belly (it was cute!)...and it was clear and clean. Then I remembered, last year she had a big problem with allergies. I have meds for that (Chlorpheniramine), and I've restarted her on that. Hopefully...she'll find some relief.

Will keep y'all updated.
Poor Keira, must be something that sprouts in autumn.
I sympathise with her I get worse hayfever in autumn than I ever get in spring.
Hope the meds help. :crossed:
Keep looking for fleas. Sometimes they don't have very many but are very reactive to them. Hudson had fleas and we took several months to figure it out. The vet did the shake test repeatedly and we checked and checked.

Antihistamines and prednisone gave him some relief, but once he was off it started up again.

Our clinic has five vets, and we saw four of them at different times. They all checked for fleas as did my husband and I. Finally, late one night I was rubbing Hudson's tummy and a single flea strolled on by. We never ever saw a second one, and four different vets couldn't find any either.

Sometimes it's not a full blown infestation, but it still causes all sorts of trouble, so I'd still keep an eye open down the road. You never know.
If Bing suffers from fleas, I can always find dirt on his back hocks. Weird place maybe but it has always worked! I hope the itchiness clears soon!!
