Vet Check

When getting a puppy at 8 weeks how soon should you set up an appointment with your vet, assuming the pup looks fine? At that first check up what should vet check for what tests should be run fecal to check works ect...

At 9wks would be a good time.His/her next shots are scheduled then. You could just have vet do a complete checkup.
Your breeder should have everything outlined for you as to what the puppy needs and when his next vaccinations are due.
Many puppies come with the time of the 1st vet check as part of their guarantee/contract. Especially if the breeder is not someone you already know. This can prevent a potentially bad relationship if the puppy becomes ill shortly after you bring it home. Was the puppy sick from the breeder, or did it become ill from something in your home or that you exposed it to?

When I get a new dog, I schedule an appt within the 1st few days. It serves many purposes.

1 - puppy gets to go to the vet as a fun experience, nothing "bad" is happening. If all shots, etc are up to date, it is more of a social visit, with a physical exam thrown in.
Maybe you need shots/worming, etc - then this a good time to get it done. Or your vet may have a slightly different healthcare protocol than the breeder's vet. This may be something they prefer in that vet office, or it may be d/t regional differences and health risks that are prevalent in your area.

2 - bring puppy's paperwork with and get a chart page started with your vet for this pup/dog. This way they can review the papers and plan future scheduled visits.
Also, this way the vet has seen your new pup and knows what it is like. If the pup were to get ill or injured, they would have something to compare it to. Also, in a time of (potential) crisis, it is NOT the time to be doing a "meet and greet" situation with the vet!

I do this also for any foster dogs I may have - even if they are all UTD. I get the info to the vet, and have them start a new chart page for this dog. I stop in with the dog (and have the staff love him/her up and they know I have a new dog in the house!) and do a double check on all the paperwork.

Good luck with your new pup - it is great to be as organized as possible! :D
We picked up Bailee on Nov. 10th last year and were at the Vet on the 11th.
Me too my baby went right away to have a nice experience...
I didn't say he behaved though :P
He is always a wiggle worm!
