How about this Breeder?

Has anyone had any experience with Michelle and or Tory Smith of marengo, OH?

You need to contact the Old English Sheepdog Club of America breeder referral service. If the Smiths are not listed then you have to be your own dectective......which you are doing here. But you need to ask the breeder the right questions and don't let them put you off or tell you "there's never been a problem." While even the best breeder with all the proper documentation, tests, etc can have a bad pup, it is less common than with a backyard or hobby breeder......and far less often that what comes out of puppy mills. There not only are there physical problems but also socializing/psychological problems.

Another good source.....possible good source....is the rescue rep for that area. If the breeders are pumping out pups, some might have ended up in rescue.

Good luck on your quest.

Susan, that's especially perfect advice in this case as the rescue person who covers OH is Madeline Erickson of NY OES rescue, who happens to be a longtime, well respected breeder in her own right. She would know if there were any reputable OES breeders in that area.

Her contact information can be found at http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... ectory.htm

Best of luck!

FYI,
Since I have gotten puppy from Michelle and or Tory Smith of marengo, OH they were supposed to send me some limited AKC registration papers on puppy. I it has been about 3 weeks I haven't received anything. I have tried calling several times on home phone and there is no answer. I have left several voice mails no returned calls. The cell phone number that I had to arrange pickup at the airport has since been disconnected.

Appears Breeder has disappeared. Puppy (Harry) is doing well and appears healthy first Vet check and all. I don't really so much care about AKC registration and or papers but at this point just worried about what I got from a Puppy standpoint. The thought of long health issues or future behavior problems are looming in the back of my head as this smells as a front for puppy mill.
Sorry - but it sounds like the black ops of puppy sales doesn't it?

I am sure you already adore your puppy and you will have to face any health issues as they come up - we all do. Even the most concientious breeder can produce a dog with health issues (although the odds may be lower).
As far a AKC registration, you can alway apply for an ILP which allows you to enter in AKC performance events such as Rally, Obedience and Agility.

Also, I agree with Kerry......we all love our sheepies and are with them thru thick and thin.....
yes the signs were there but I wasn't obeying them ;). This one went to extreme measures. I requested idividual photos, she sent them but it always took longer than expected and not quiet what I requested. Heath screenings were done on parents so we didn't do them on them. I requested vet reference, they gave me local vet I verified vet on internet and were listed several different places yellow pages and other ads. Called vet, verified that he had done health screenings and puppies look healthy. I had asked about the puppies parents if he had seen them he did not have records.

Again, all signs were there but oh well Hind sight is 20 20 right. I am happy with my pup but I just feel like I was scammed and or breeder has washed his hands of puppy once he was sold.

I am just writing about this to reiterate that you must do your homework, double and triple check and if it stinks like a fish it is most likely a fish.
