Bone Holding

My two OES love their bones. It could be a bully stick or a wholesome hide rawhide. But they each like me to hold their bone while they chew - or at least be in the room. However, I always thought it was best to give each dog a bone and leave them alone so I seperate the two while they enjoy. Makes it difficult to hold the bones for them
Do others give multiple dogs bones and leave all to chew in the same room?
Are you all "bone holders"???

I was going to tell you that you were babying them too much but then I remembered that I spoon fed all three of the dogs yogurt today.
For me, it would depend on the group of dogs and what the treat was. I have 7, and I can leave the hard bones for them all to chew.

A higher value treat may start a fight at the moment. We have a new foster, and the pecking order is disrupted for a bit. Right now, I wouldn't leave bully sticks for the whole gang. Also, I have a couple who would steal them and hoard them, so it wouldn't be very enjoyable for anyone.
The bones and chews are so plentiful here that I just give them to them and they sort it out themselves. Sometimes Maggie makes Henry trade her. Sometimes Maggie ends up with two and then Henry runs off to find a chew that was hidden somewhere. I think because the treats are so easily available, neither dog seems to think they are worth protecting. That's my theory anyway. The downside is that I am always stepping on a bone or a chew.

Replace names of Heart, Pearl and Cos...and its the same in my house...except I end up slipping on the bones....
Prior to Jack coming here, I could hand out bones and they'd find their own corner or private place. Eventually Sam had them all but not before the others had their fill.

Now with Jack I'm afraid to give out bones unless he were kept secure away from the others......the brat.
We give the boys hard bones, always giving them new ones at the same time and there is no fighting. However when Barks isn't looking, Duffie will swoop in & take his bone - no barking or growling, just looks at him. Barks quits chewing & lets him take it!

I too have caught myself holding a bone while a dog chews on the other end!
No problem here, Dancer is alpha among the dogs but she won't steal a bone or treat from another dog when I'm looking anyway LOL

Panda isn't fond of bones or anything that takes effort really, she loves to eat but prefers it to be easy, she still prefers her kibble soaked. Lazy, lazy dog.

Piper will eat anything, anytime. Willy thinks bones are toys and carries them off to his bed or puts them in his laundry basket full of stuffies.
Mine get bones covered in meat and marrow. I have the sunroom gated off that is where Laika goes and Langley up with me. Once the meat is gone they are fine but no chances here. They both love the bones too much.
Walter can't have really tasty bones because he gets aggressive/crazy with them and ends up eating them way too fast for my liking.

He can have plain old boring bones, but he won't bother with them unless I am holding on one end.
We do everything else for them...why not hold their bones too?
Compared to having put cream into every oriface during Sammy's lifetime, holding a bone is nothing!
I'm going to hope this isn't a stupid question, but what's a bully stick? :? I don't think we have those up here in these parts.

You so don't want to know.... disgusting LOL

Disgusting only to us humans. My dogs LOVE them

Disgusting is right - the things our dogs love. ewwww
Do these get "smelly" as they get wet from dogs chewing them?
I don't hold the bones for Kody, but he does feel the need to be touching my leg, or something during his entire chew fest. If I move or get up he worries too much about what I'm doing and he forgets about the bone.He can have Chicken chews or dried muscle...but he does not get real bones because he still gets too aggressive when he has them.

LOL, as soon as I read this, I highly suspected that I knew what it was....then I read the url you left and saw the word "pizzle" at the end of the line. I didn't even click on it, I'm all too familiar with the term. Haven't had the nerve to get one for Sunny yet though. (Maybe never will!) BTW, thanks for your tack, it's much appreciated. You handled it with class!
I can't leave...Chaunceys favorite bone is the knuckle of my right index finger. He started knawing on it on the way home from the breeder and still does when we are cuddling. After 4 years I think it's soothing to both of us :aww: :hearts:
I have held Riley's bones for him - mostly when he was a puppy. Now that he's older he'll bring it to me for me to hold and without realizing I'll do it and after about 5 mins or so I'll realize and let go. When he drops he looks @ me like - what happened? Then he'll pick it up and go continue the chewing on his bed or right where it dropped. :D
