Ten Things To Remember About Your New (Recycled) Dog
1. He/She is not your old dog, or the pet you grew up with. What worked for them may not be right for your new best friend.
2. He/She needs stability and limits more than he needs gooey displays of affection. That stuff comes later.
3. He will make mistakes. Mistakes call for calm, firm correction and guidance, not punishment and anger.
4. She lives in the present. Don’t hold her back by dwelling on her past, however awful you think it may have been.
5. He will test to see if you have set limits and where. It’s much better to start with a clear picture of what is expected than to lower the boom later.
6. She needs exercise and lots of it, working their mind and body. A tired dog is a good dog.
7. He needs a meaningful job commensurate with his abilities. You should be the one to give it to him.
8. She is a social being who yearns to belong and be a part of the family, just like us.
9. He must learn to be alone sometimes.
10. She is a complete, dignified animal, not a weird human child in a fur coat.

Yes, he is!!!!!!!! :aww:

His first owner loved him and was in tears when he left him but knew he couldn't give him the attention he needed so did the right thing for the dog. Hard thing to do, put the dog first. But lucky for all involved

Beyond #4, like Mim said, good advice for all dogs no matter what their story.

Me? I think Garfunkel's darn lucky. Not because he's a rescue, but because so many people have and do care deeply about him.

Except my cat. My cat really was not so thrilled with him
