Socks

So, Josh taught Asterisk when she was 6 months old to pull his socks off his feet at the end of the day. Usually, she will just pull them off, chew on them a bit, then drop them on the ground.

Well, yesterday, as I was coming home from my Sunday volunteering, Josh calls me on the phone and said that one of the animals vomitted something that he couldn't identify. Josh is severely color-blind, so it's not uncommon if he can't identify objects.

I came home and found half of a sock in a pile of bile. We were pretty sure that it was Asterisk. A few hours later, she gets up from laying down and starts to walk around furiously and then BBBLLLLAAAAPPP, she pukes again, this time it was just a peanut butter cookie.

When I woke up this morning, I found the other half of the sock in the basement. I'm sure that her poor tummy is pretty upset from all the vomiting, but she is acting alright.

I told Josh to be more diligent at keeping his socks in the clothes bin. One problem we have is that my cat Hyphen, likes to pull socks from the hamper and drag them through out the house. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

Does anyone else have problems like this?

Haven't had a cloth eater since the St. Bernard ate the bathroom rug. Now I have Jack who's into artificial flowers....I find them around the house...hopefully none have gone down the gullet.
Luckily it's only been baby socks. There wasn't a poo that went by that didn't contain a baby sock when we had our first kid. It was disgusting to see. :) She was obsessed with them, and would always find them ...never on the floor. She'd find them out of the dryer or hamper. Never touched panties, or bigger items like our socks ...just baby. Maybe she secretly hated lil J?

Anyway, but she never did that with baby 2 and I don't expect her to with number 3. It was more of a puppy thing.

Our newest OES is also obsesed with socks but everyones. OBSESSED. He goes in the garage searching for daddy's sock and waits for us to chase him then just drops it and never touches it again.

Hopefully your dog got it all up!!

I'm just really hoping that she didn't eat a pair...
We used to find all kinds of interesting things when we did pooper scoop duty. Ben loved socks and wash cloths. He had emergency, twice, for obstructions. A year ago, I took him in because I thought he had eaten something again - the vet said nope. A week later he threw up another wash cloth.

We had to totally change the way we handled our laundry. Ben could open doors and cabinets, so it was critical that small dirty laundry items were in a basket, on top of the washer and dryer. Clean things were immediately put away. Guests were an issue for us as they just didn't follow the rules.
Socks, cloth, etc can be seriously dangerous of eaten by a dog. They can cause a blockage as many on this forum can attest to. I would discourage any playing with socks or other items not digestible. I would also be sure the socks eaten came out or a trip to the vet is definately in order.
We had a cat that LOVED my husband's stinky, sweaty gym cloths - she especially loved to roll around in the shorts. She would stink afterwards - so gross, but she loved it.

But we did have a puppy die at 10 months of age due to complications from swallowing a pair of my daughters undies. The vet was stuned that she hadn't realized how serious the situation was & performed a necropsy. Apparently he had some growths and abnormalities on his intestines which were complicated by the bunched up undies.

We were pretty much destroyed by guilt, especially my daughter. So we do everything now to make sure the boys don't have "access" to clothing - biggest change was lids on laundry hampers.
She's okay! I could tell she was feeling better when she was sniffing Josh's Chic-filet yesterday. She finally ate this morning, too.

What a relief, whew!
