Baby J update

It's day 10, and they took her off the CPAP, and so far things are looking stable. Ms. Jilly's lungs seem to be maturing now, and I can't emphasize how much seeing her do well fills my cup. I can't wake up early enough to get in the car to see her each day.

Anyway, for the first time... I don't have negative thoughts in my head about her progress. Today if she is still off the CPAP and doing well, we will get to hold her. I'm shaking and crying as I write this. lol

That is really good news.

She really is an adorable little baby.
You guys are the best. :) I don't know what I'd do without your support. Well my family would probably have to get me some help because I have definitely had a hard time with her not being here.

So, I held her.

They couldn't get her to me fast enough before the tears started to roll down my cheeks. I kept trying to say "jillybean, it's momma..." but she was drowning in my tears. lol

I held her for 10 min, and putting her back and having to leave her again was the hardest part.

The good news is, she is getting better, and I will be bringing her home soon. She still has some fluids in her lungs, and has to get off oxygen, but we think it'll be soon (next day or so). From there as mentioned by some other posters, I guess nicu babies have to learn to eat since they have been fed through an iv for so long, they have trouble sucking (more than normal healthy babies). Hopefully by next weekend, she will be home :)

Thanks again everyone.

...and no pics of her being held. Didn't even think about it though the camera was the only thing I brought in there!!!!
There are just the words I wanted to read this morning:

Having held her and knowing she is getting better has got to be incredible news for you and Mr. J! Soon your family will be together and this turmoil will fade. Let's hope jillybean takes after or brother the Moose and figures out Mom is a pretty good cook! No matter where the food comes from......... [/quote]
Oh wonderful News ! :D It didn't take Benedict long to start sucking well but he was bigger than Jilly and not as early .....SO glad to hear that she should be home soon :-)

Julie X
So happy for you! We're glad she's doing good and can't wait for the post that says she's home with Mommy!
Such wonderful news :D My son was in NICU for 6 days after he was born due to jaundice. It's so hard to be separated from a child you were so eager to hold and nurture. Glad you got to do this today and hoping she'll be home with her family soon. :hearts:
What wonderful news. :yay: :yay:
How many trips do you make a day to see her?
Such good news Mrs J to hear you FINALLY got to hold your little Jillybean. I can only imagine the emotions you felt. Get better quickly Jilly, your family needs you at home.
:cheer: :go: YAY :go: :cheer:

Great news! So happy for you that things are progressing in the right direction! :D
That is so great...soon she will be home with her
family!
:cheer: :ghug:
That is so good to hear!
She seems more tan than furious pink. That's a major plus. :D
WOW so just getting caught up on the situation.
Just to add another preemie success story. I was born at 20 weeks. I weighed less than a pound. I had to have heart surgery but they had to invent the surgical tools that would be small enough to operate on me. I survived and have only scars on my heels and pictures to prove it. (Scars from pricking my heels were the old fashioned way of getting blood to test oxygen levels). That was 23 years ago at St.Paul's hospital in Dallas TX. So imagine what they can do with the advances in medical technology and in a hospital that actually has a NICU!

I just passed my 20 week mark and i was so paranoid that i was going to go into labor. Makes no sense right but oh well.

I will be keeping u and urs in my thoughts constantly.

Ren M
That is super news.
:crossed: that this is the new trend and the good progress continues right along!
I am sooooooooovey happy for you :D :ghug: :hearts:

My mother was an intensive care newborn nurse.....back before NICUs. She HATED to take the blood from the heels.....she finally go so sick of it she told the head nurse she either was going into the normal newborn nursery or was quitting. I won't tell her you have scars, it will bring back bad memories.

Wow. I always thought the youngest baby born was at 21 wks and some days and that was fairly recently (past few years)?? She was on the news everywhere. Maybe you're not getting the credit you deserve. 8) In all seriousness, that's amazing and I didn't know a baby could be born that early and not have a serious long-term problem. You're great hope for others. :)

I'm glad you're pregnancy is going well. I totally understand your fears especially with how you came to be. Please keep us posted on your pregnancy!

We make at least 2 a day since it is a little out of the way. We have to bring the boys, so it's always one of us waiting in the waiting room, and we can only do it for so long. We do it at meal times, so they can eat and be patient.
Just want you to know you stay in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so happy you were able to hold her and that she continues to improve. :D
Continued good wishes for all the J's, large and small!
I should really look into that, i definitely deserve credit or at least my doctors do! Ya I am totally normal (well my husband doesn't think so  ) i developed normally wasn't stunted or anything, i was reading by 4 years old......maybe the part of my brain that does math was affected as i am not so good with the whole numbers thing. Oh and i was bald until i was three  But no worries i have a full head of hair, actually too much hair if you ask me.

My parents have talked about how hard it was going to the NICU. I just glad you got to hold her so soon. My poor parents had to wait 3 months! And i was their 1st child born 11 months after they had gotten married as they were living three states away from any family. So its comforting to know you've got a good support system in place, even if some of us are all avatars and type :ghug:

Ren M
Continuing to send prayers that she'll be home soon
:ghug: :crossed:
Mrs J, I am so glad you got to hold her. That must have been so wonderful for you!!
Glad she is gonna be home soon!
Visited my darling girl, and the Dr. came in and took the oxygen off (after the CPAP, she still had something in her nose that had forced air going through), and said we'll see how today goes. *fingers crossed*

After this, she has to maintain her temp, take her bottles, gain weight, and then she'll get to come home. :)

Now, do any of you want to pay our hospital bill? I'm sure our 20% portion we have to pay is way over the price of a new lexus already. lol I guess from the start she wanted to make her presence known, and prove she will be twice as expensive as my boys.

I stare at the swing downstairs and picture her in it, and then get so excited about her coming home soon. I guess I try to justify her $$$ arrival with the fact that I'm just lucky to have her. ...and you guys just get stuck with seeing too many pics. ;)

The tube in her nose is her feeding tube.

She is too precious for words...She will be home before you know it!

As far as the hospital bill..$100.00 a month..it will get paid off eventually!!!!
I guess she knows her Christmas present this year.

The tube in her nose is her feeding tube. Lil J absolutely adores her and gets angry when it's time to leave. Like he never wants to go when we're there. He says, "jillybean sick. she need momma, dada, bubba (him) here." Aweee... totally not how he started with his brother who he ignored.
She is so beautiful.
Those pictures are just priceless, Jo! I'm so happy jillybean is doing so well. She'll be home before you know it! :cheer: :crossed: :ghug:

As for the bill, doesn't your insurance have a cap? The insurance I had at one time had a deductible, then a 20% copay until I reached a total yearly out of pocket of $1100. Then they would cover 100%.
Jillybean is so perfect. Good news she is moving closer to going home. :D
Ooooh... I'm so touched by the sweet picture of your son holding her. Got all teary eyed.

Exactly. Work out a payment plan. Don't sweat the small stuff.
Okay, I'm new to civilian insurance. I didn't know that, and I feel a lot better now that I called. Our dr is not in network, so I just owe 6,000 (cap) plus co-pays for everything she has had done (daily x-rays, etc) which is soooooooooo not bad at all compared to the overall crazy cost so far according to the hospital.
   Jillybean is beautiful!   I'm sure both of them will treasure the picture of them together forever! How precious.
What a beautiful pic of big brother holding his baby sis... :)

I can't wait to see more pics.... she's just adorable! :)
Glad things are going well and improving, she'll be home in no time by the sound of it :)
LeAnne and Lisa were preemies, and I remember the stress from getting medical bills and they weren't even home from the hospital yet!
We had the ambulance bill, the U of M specialty hospital bills from my pre-delivery week stay there, before they even were home from our local hospital. :(

I actually still have the stack of bills in my filing cabinet from 25 yrs ago...maybe just as a reminder that while it seemed overwhelming, those bills were/are proof of all the hard work that went into getting healthy babies that grew up into healthy adults. :)

That picture of lil J holding Jillybean is SOOO cute!!!
That picture of Lil J with his sister is so sweet.

She is really a pretty baby.
Awww she is so cute- I'm so looking forward to seeing her grow :aww:
I'm so glad to see her out of the incubator and in her big brother's arms. It really made my day as I sure it did yours. Keep the pics coming. :)
Fabulous photos , Jilly looks like a little doll :-)

It must be hard having bills to worry over too but she's worth every $ , I hope she's home with you soon and I can't wait for more and more photos as she grows :D

Julie X
You can see how she has filled out from those first pictures.

Trips back and forth to visit her $$$$$
Hospital Bill$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Jillybean PRICELESS :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
She is such a little sweetheart! :hearts:

Yes-- it is crazy, but all of those things being done are helping precious lil Jilly survive. When we lost our triplets 19 years ago, we still had enormous bills to pay. I would have paid a trillion dollars plus, if the outcome had been different. Our arms were empty and our hearts were broken, but the bills were still there. Enjoy your little one--- the other stuff will take care of itself.
How precious it is that Lil J loves his sissy so much. :aww: That just makes me tear up with joy. :aww:

As for the insurance, so glad you got good news. :clappurple:
Oh, brotherly love makes me so teary, especially for such a precious little girl
so glad shes doing so well
Your story of jelly makes my heart melt. I wish I had a big brother
Just catching up. Congratulations Mrs. J, she is beautiful. Sounds like everything is moving in a positive direction, that is wonderful. You'll have her home before you know it.
Little J has been on board with this pregnancy since day one  Guess having Moose around isn't so bad, though he is forgotten..... ....that the thought of a new baby is exciting for him.

Nice having older brothers to take care of you.

Soon everyone will be home in a huddle on the living room floor......family.

Bills get paid.....it all works out.
