SheepieFest!6--October 3--official roll call

This is the official roll call/invitation/get over here announcement for SheepieFest!6.

October 3, Shoe Factory Road Forest Preserve in Hoffman Estates, Illinois (Cook County). We will be in grove 2. The forest preserve is on Route 59 (also known as Sutton Road), about a mile south of the I90 exit.

The start time is 11-ish (as permit holder, I will be there at 9am but I don't expect anyone else) and we usually end between 4-5pm. We will have our traditional silent auction with proceeds going to Nita and Nancy's rescue. If you have a donation for the auction (doesn't have to be sheepie related), please bring it.

I vow to bring 2 3 foot sub sandwiches this year (I weasled out last year)--one turkey and one veggie. There is no grill at the forest preserve. Please bring some food item to share. Stacy, you are in charge of paper plates and cutlery (I think you have enough for the next 5 sheepiefests).

Obviously dogs (even non-sheepies) are the honored guests, but you don't have to bring a dog to attend.

We've had excellent weather for the last 5 picnics, so fingers crossed our luck continues.

Can't wait to see everyone!!!!!

It would be last minute, have to see how many fosters are
camping here!
I just got a call about another deaf male to be surrenedered.
Busy times!!!
Melissa and I will be there. I will declare what food items we will bring when it becomes clear what we are lacking....as if we ever lack for food
How far away from Ohio would that be? does anyone Know I would love to come and bring Shamu
Depnds on what part of Ohio...probably ranging from 8-10 hours.
I was planning on going through there if I were to drive up...
It is 18 hours from us

You'll have to ask Nancy. It's quite a drive from Minneapolis for one afternoon.
Forgot to say that I will bring the bid sheets for the auction.
Amanda P wrote:

Good! I think you are the only one who has the original sheets.

It's only 4 weeks til SheepieFest!6. I hope lots of people and puppies come. I hate to throw a party and nobody shows up........

P.S. Last year Nita brought the Scotch and there is a swallow left in the bottle. I'll bring the Jim Beam that Deborah gave me for Christmas....
Kristine and Jan are bring some doggie equipment for the pups to play with. I bet my Lizzie will be the last one picked for the team

I'm really excited. Both my kids will be there, which means, there's a good chance Missy Keira may come too.
We're going we just made a reservation at a La Quinta Hotel
Please let me know what I can bring Yippeeeee I'm so happy
Just a shameless bump for people who may not have seen this.
Paula, what does that mean? bump?
Bump means posting so that the post moves to the top of the forum. So that it doesn't get buried on back pages.
I just rented my van for SheepieFest!!!! I'm getting very excited! I'll bring fried chicken again. It went over well last year.
Deborah, is this a Dodge van or a Kia van?????????

Since you're bringing chicken, should I still get 2 subs (each 3 feet long) or would 1 be enough? I'm scared only 10 people are gonna show up!!!!
I don't know what kind of mini van it will be. It's coming from Enterprise. For what I pay, I'm thrilled with anything!!!!!!
What could I bring?
I've been thinking of what I should bring, too. I'll be driving 2 1/2 hours. I'm trying to think what would be a good idea that won't spoil.
We always seem to be dessert/sweets heavy. Veggie tray, fruit salad, pasta salad, something in that line would be great. Or how about lunch meat and bread? Can never have too many sandwiches!
Or...stop at gas station and pick up a bag of ice. We can also use soda!
I'll bring ice and pop and what ever else I can fit in the cooler
I'm going to sheepie fest lalalalalala
Gosh, I just realized SheepieFest!6 is just a week from Saturday! I hope the good weather continues. Looking forward to the 3rd...

Me, too! It's a bit of a drive, and hopefully, it will be free of rain. I forgot to ask, is there going to be any place where the dogs can be off the lead? or should they be leashed the entire time?
Paula are you going to bring Bob? I sure would love to meet him too
Actually, the dogs don't have to be on leads. I believe Kristine is bringing some agility equipment (I believe that is the correct terminology) so the dogs can work off some energy doing that. Our shelter in the forest preserve has a huge open grass area for the dogs to run. It's up to you to decide if your dog can handle being off leash.

And no, Bob will not be there. He doesn't like to go to new places. His brain would explode and leak out his ears.
Yes, Paula, you believe correctly, and your phrasing is just fine too.

We're bringing some basic agility equipment so people can give it a try and I think Jan plans on putting up a rally course too, and will probably do a demo with Sadie.

I'm bringing my foster terrorist. And some of my own dogs. Terrorist intends to demo how much fun tunnels and tables are, though it's her jumping that impresses me. Especially when it's over the jumps and not ON me

She's an incredibly athletic little wench. Fast, too.

Kristine
I checked the weather over here, and it's due to rain this weekend. Any idea if it's going to be raining at the sheepie fest? Since it's only 3 hours from us, I'm thinking it just might.
It's still 5 days away and you know how weather can change quickly here. We've always had excellent weather and I'm assuming the trend will continue this year!!!
We always have excellent weather DURNING SheepieFest! But it can change with 10 minutes of leaving the forest preserve!
Am thinking about what to bring...any suggestions? The *****iest sheepie this side of the Mississippi will be staying home (she is up for any ultimate showdowns to maintain that title).

What is everyone bringing again...do we need dessert or drinks or anything?

Already have the auction sheets packed...
Amanda, bring whatever you want, although cookies are always most welcome!
Here's a link to a map:

http://itouchmap.com/?d=1764374&s=IL&f=woods

We are at Shoe Factory Road Woods (Hoffman Estates, IL) in Grove 2. It's a nice grove with a large area for the dogs to run off-leash. Port-A-Potty for uprights, large shelter, lots of tables.

The forecast is for showers in the morning, but it was supposed to start raining last night and it's sunny. So much for correct weather forecasting.......
We're very excited, Rudie is gettin his hair done right now for the big day!
Pirate and Lizzie are at the spa too!

Oh, don't worry, the rain is hitting us hard here and we are due west of you! You could get washed away with this rain.
wish i could be there
I really hope we don't get washed out!!! I've been really crabby (probably because I'm going back to work next week and I've had my period every other week this past month  ) and being rained out will just piss me off!

It will be me, Steve, Evan and Fozzie this year. Of course, Queen Annie will stay at home and relax.
:excited: IT'S NOT GOING TO RAIN! IT'S SHEEPIEFEST! IT'S NOT ALLOWED TO RAIN!!! :excited:
I hope if it does rain that it doesn't get too muddy. I have a 3 hour drive, I'm just hoping that muddy paws won't end up all over the car.

I'll make sure to pack plenty of towels and blankets!

OK, hon. You keep working on that

Because it's wet and cold up here today and I bet I could rival Stacy in the cranky department. :?

Anybody bringing space heaters for the pavillion?

Kristine
I'm leaving for the forest prserve in 15 minutes. The sun is trying to come out, the temp is around 50. The forecast calls for no rain until the afternoon, then showers around 2-3, which if it has to rain, is a fine time. We're all pretty tuckered out around 3 anyway.

I have 3 foot long turkey subs and 2 foot long veggie subs (cheese and veggies). I can't eat all that by myself, so everybody better show up!!!!!
I just picked up the fried chicken. Getting ready to go get the rental suv. I'm hopeful the rain will hold off, as it has in the past.

GO SHEEPIEFEST!!!!!!!!!
Well, I'm just leaving work, but heading south shortly. Need to pick up dogs and equipment first.

Keep working on the no rain dance!!!
KB
Have fun!!!
I'm working, so I expect pictures before I'm done at 7pm!!!!

It did rain here on my way to work before 7am, but none for several hours. Hope it goes away for you too. We are prettty saturated here - almost 3 inches in the last 2 days.
Another successful SheepieFest! The rain kinda held off til we were done--it started raining in earnest around 3 but that didn't deter the dogs--they were still going strong and I think there will be a lot of baths tonight!

I'd like to thank everyone who came. I got to see old friends, and meet new friends, like Erin and Todd and Robin. Of course I didn't take any pictures, but it would have been hard unless they were videos--the pups really enjoyed running and playing and working Kristine's agility course.

We had tons of great food. Raised over $200 for Midwest Oes Rescue through the silent auction and raffle. However. I am stuck once again with the bird jigsaw puzzle! It will be back next year and hopefully someone will buy it.

I hope everyone had as a good a time as I did. Special thanks to Debcram who started this event 6 years ago as a way for sheepie lovers to meet and greet.
Glad the weather was kind to you!!! :D
Waiting on photos.
Add me to the four filthy, but happy dogs list.

Daphne has been promoted from terrorist foster to one heck of an agility dog in the making. Somebody with ambition needs to adopt her. She could wipe the floor with my dogs if someone bothered to train her properly - there's nothing to her (very lightboned) so she jumps small houses at warp speed. She's come a long way and though she hasn't perfected the begging & stealing routine my guys have down, she hung out with everybody and mingled just like a normal dog (no submissive wetting etc) Very proud of her.

Oh, and given that she actually CARES who she goes home with it was nice to have a dog I could let loose and not have to think about. Even Lizzy, my only velcro dog, was off mooching :P

Great fun despite the damp. Good to see old friends again and meet some new people as well. Dogs had a blast. Wish we could get together and run them more regularly.

Dogs are still racing around the house. Me? I need a nap!!! 8)

STILL no pictures :?:

There weren't too many people with cameras this year, I don't think. Though a couple of people took some pictures, I think. And there are some group pics where we all look suitably dishevelled. You can find me in the pics, I suspect, by virtue of Daphne's pawprints all over me...

Dogs looked, ahem, lovely too. I was going to bathe Sybil before we went but Jan G talked me out of it and I'm glad she did. Mace and Liz and Daphne were actually clean when I got there, but that didn't last long and Daphne has apparently acquired my dogs' ability to pick up every burr in a 20 mile radius

Kristine
Oh how I wish Sammy and I could have been there  It's too bad I didn't discover this website last year. Maybe next year there will be a new sheepie in our family.

Can't wait to see the photos.
Good job Daphne!!
It sounds like you all had a blast.
I am so proud of that Daphne.....
Glad you all had a blast!

I should start my Sheepiefest savings fund now
for next year!!!!
Ok..now I know for a fact, I'm old! Not only were the dogs beat when we got home, I HAD to nap, too!

It was great. Thank you everyone! Especially Paula who held down the fort, while I battle stupid Illinois/construction traffic.

I have no idea how many people/dogs showed up. But it was more than I expected for the weather we had. Cloudy and chilly. But as I always say, it doesn't rain during SheepieFest! It may "drizzle" but it doesn't rain. However immediately afterwards it pours! We made it through one more year.

We had some wonderful food. Thanks to everyone who brought stuff.
Mmmmm bagels, mmmmm sub sandwich, mmmm shrimp....mmmmm cream puff (like I really need that, or the cookies or the cupcakes!) but it was wonderful to have it.

Special thanks to Kristine and Jan for setting up agility and obdience rings. Apparently my pups have gotten to "plump" to be successful. But Pirate and Lizzie had the time of their lives. Lizzie fell in love with BeBe Bellini (Pirate got jealous) and Pirate got to roll in some odd sort of poo. Both got covered in burrs. Yes, it was a happy doggie day!

Paula and I added up the donations and we are please to announce we will be sending Midwest Oes rescue $250!!!! Nita and Nancy, it is our pleasure to do this for you. We are just sorry you couldn't make it. Especially since I had to drink Bourbain, instead of Scotch!

Thank you all. You really made my heart dance once again.

Darling Michelina had designed a new Sheepiepup for us for next year. More news to come on that!

Thank you...and bless you...and remember...IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SHEEPIES!!!!!
Asterisk, Wendel, and I had a great time! You know it's a good time when the sheepies curl up on the ride home. Can't wait to do it again next year!!
Got a minute to post. Fozzi'e upstairs in the shower as I type getting MY bathroom dirty! We had a great time again this year! I'm so glad the strong rain held off until we packed up. Thank you everyone for showing up!

This year Fozzie proved that he's definitely a teenager and no longer my little cute sweet puppy . As they say, out with the old and in with the new. I do apologize if he offended any dogs in protecting his Baby Evan or policing everyone during play time. I know he did have a blast running around and getting dirty!
Glad you had such a great turnout even with the bad predicted weather. Sorry we weren't able to make it at the last minute.

We certainly appreciate the work you put into Sheepiefest '09 and thank everyone who helped raise money for our rescue. It's been a difficult year as far as health problems with our rescues in both Indiana and Minnesota. We've had dogs with Lyme's Disease, Anaplasmosis, Heartworms... you name it. They usually come to us without being spayed or neutered and always are altered prior to placement. Needless to say we'll definitely put the money to good use. :D :D :D :D :D

Many thanks,

Nita (Indiana) & Nancy (Minnesota)
Midwest Old English Sheepdog Rescue
Oh yes, please forgive me for being so scatterbrained and not as focused as I've been in years past. In addition to apologizing for Fozzie's protectiveness, I sincerely apologize for being a fraction of the person I used to be before I had Evan. I think my brain came out with the baby. There are a few folks that I didn't talk to or didn't seem to recognize and I do sincerely apologize. I sure hope my detail oriented side comes back soon. I need to go back to work this Monday :(
We had a great time. Johnny hasn't walked around that much in ages. I think he slept during the whole trip home.
It was so nice to meet everyone
Paula & Deb You are great hosts. Sorry Shamu didn't participate in anything except laying under the table.
It's my fault after she attacked Sadie I got a littel scared she would go after everyone else.
It was so nice to be around so many sheepies, I was in heaven.
As soon as I down load the pictures I will post them.
