At 5:20 every day Hudson loses his mind

I've noticed that he is settling now, and being a good dog sometimes. He still has TONS of evil (and you never know when it'll come up), but it's often under control for at least some of the day.

Until 5:20 in the evening rolls around (or, five minutes either way).

He starts stealing everything (while looking right in my eyes as he does it), gets really rough with Portage, and throws himself violently at the front door (nothing's there). This has just started since my husband started his new job three weeks ago. (He was home for a while before that).

I'm thinking his internal clock is saying, "I want daddy!"

He pokes at me with his paws, will not play with his toys (or even chase one I throw). He just tries to destroy the door or knock his brother down (and Portage isn't strong enough to put up with that...it's not their normal nice play). Hudson scratched me (broke the skin a little) pawing at me today.

So, I've been putting him in his crate for a time out when he's lilke this (otherwise I just end up trying to make him behave and yell at him - not good for either of us). My hubby comes home between 5:30 and 6:00, lets him out, and gets to be the big hero.

He doesn't fuss in his crate, and Portage and I both enjoy the calm.

So, two questions:

1)Is his internal clock really that accurate?

2)Why does he only do this for his dad? When I'm gone he doesn't seem to care, and there's never an emotional reunion when I come back. When my hubby does Hudson does backflips!

(I know the answer to part of 2...I don't make a stink when I arrive, so he actually behaves well and DOESN'T jump on me. His dad does rile him up.) But I'm still feeling unloved.

Dad watching happens here too. The event just occurred: mad barking, throwing themselves out the front door, etc. For the prior 20 minutes MO sat at the door.......watching........Jack was watching MO........Harry was watching Jack......all on edge. None can be distracted from their job.....cookies are carried to their watch spot. Glacier is sacked out in front of the vent blowing cold air  Now I hear the gate being opened, more phrenetic barking.....in a few minutes they will come into the house and run down the hall to tell me "Dad's Home!!!"
Yes, dogs do have that good of an internal clock. :D

1. Simon the basset is ready for bed every evening at 8:45. He was a rescue, came to me at age 6 with that particular time "preset"

2. Dino the min pin is my son's dog, he got him as his 4-H show puppy at age 12. (Travis was 12, not Dino) he knew within minutes every day when the bus would be coming bringing Travis home from school. At 1st I thought he heard the bus, but when I watched, it was too long of a time between when he got ready to greet and when the bus pulled up. He was poised on the back of the couch to go min pin crazy and lick Travis's face and get hugs. :D
All three of mine are lazy bags of bones ALL DAY LONG (with the exception of the mail coming through the door slot).

Then, at 5:00 they become WILD.

They sooooooo know.
My dogs also go through the "waiting for daddy rountine"...They sit by the door to the gartage where he comes in from outside. They stare at that door at about 6 pm every night...My husband travels much of the week and is not home every night and they still sit and stare. Its heart breaking when I know he's not coming home that night.

Both also ahve their "crazy dog" hour. Especially when they ere under 1 year to 2 years...At about 8 pm every night, they would run craxy all over the house and if I opened the back door, out they flew. Run crazy for a few minutes and then come in and drop dead tired! I think there's a name for that FRAPS or something.

All I know is, when two dogs run crazy dog, and one is 100 pounds and the other is 75, get the HECK out of the way!!!!
I had never really noticed before, but always found that Asterisk was always waiting for me at the door every-time I came home at lunch and at the end of the work day.

Josh was sick one day and spent the day at home. He said that five minutes before I came home, Asterisk went right to the door and just sat there. He couldn't get her attention and she wouldn't budge.

Asterisk still waits for me. Wendel on the other hand, prefers to sleep perched in the window on the table I have placed in front of it.

I guess he doesn't need an internal clock.
Tracie, any chace you could take him on a walk when you get home? Just to get the hyper out of the way?
Oh yes, bed time. MO will stand and stare at DH in order for him to take her to bed......(.hmmm, seems I used to do that many moons ago.) If he's asleep in the chair (often) she looks at me and huffs, "Wake up Dad, I'm sleepy."

Crumpet sheepdog would put herself to bed. If we didn't follow she'd come down the hall and peek around the corner, "Are you coming to bed?"
I feel my dogs have an internal clock. I adopted Violet at 9 mts and she will be 7 in Nov. Everyday at 4:50p.m. she comes looking for me to put dinner out for the girls, She came with this time alarm already set in her body clock. lol

When the evening comes along, China will stand in front of me and stare into my eyes at "our" regular bed time. I don't even have to look at the clock to know what time it is.

My hubby works alot so has a different schedule all the time, so Violet will go and lay in the laundryroom infront of the door leading to the garage and sleep there until her Daddy comes home.

When I come home, I know as soon as I open the laundryroom door I'm going to have three dogs burst through the door. Asia likes to jump in the van and see what I bought at the store. lol (As soon as I pull in the garage I pull the garage door closed /turn off the van so no one exscapes. lol)

I do, however, find that Violet is more of a creature of habit then either of the Aussies.
every nite now at 9pm sharp dreamer runs into the bedroom jumps in bed and barks till i come in.. of course he knows i have a fan at the ft of the bed just for him.. duffy waits gosh forbid he goes anywhere without me
Both my siamese cat and my dalmo have internal clocks, I think Tiggy just lets the dalmo run the clock.
The cat wakes me up at 5.30am for breakfast  The dalmo starts whinging and running back and forward to the pantry at 5.30pm for dinner.
Tiggy just sits back and lets them be annoying while she waits for me to serve up meals.
Baley really does have an internal clock--We call him Mr. Routine! One of the things that I think is so funny-- I posted on another thread how he knows when it is time for me to work out and won't stop 'reminding' me until I give in and go do it. I guess he wants me to stay in shape--
That is just one example--I could go on and on...
It seems that if we repeat one thing a couple of times Baley considers it a part of HIS routine! :D :D
Yup. They have a clock. Our dog trainer told us, during our first lesson, that every dog goes "nuts" around 5 p.m. It is so TRUE!
For the last 10 days or so we've been dealing with Glacier and her tail with a 3:30 a.m. wound irrigation. The old girl and I could barely keep our eyes open while DH did the duty. This a.m. was the first day we didn't have to clean the wound. You know who stuck her e-collar head in my face ...ouch....at 3:30 a.m.........."If you aren't going to do my tail could you at least give the food you've been giving me to get the pills down? ARGH!
Midnight (near enough) snack!
