Afraid of the Dark?

My dogs act so strange when wealking in the dark. The nights are getting longer here now and by 8 pm its pretty dark. Not many street lights either.

Both of them seem freightened...looking behind them constantly, slowly approaching then barking at shadows...pulling to go home. and they NEVER pull...

Anyone else have this behavior at night?

Yes Tiggy is scared of the dark.
If we go to the park she stays really close to us and constantly looks around as if worried about bogey men.
Even in the back courtyard when I let her out to potty she acts nervous and keeps looking around at the tops of the fences and stays close to me. Sometimes she seems to get so keen to come back in the house that she forgets to potty. We had a few accidents until I figured that out.
Stella is afraid of EVERYTHING. Every sound- shadow- flash of light. She will start to pee and then hear a noise and stop, then run in the house.
She is famous for hiding behind something and barking at sounds, etc.
some protector!
We walked a lot last summer in the dark. In town, with the streetlights only on the corners. None of the 3 (Chewie, Martha and Clay) were afraid. It was such a hot summer that we needed to wait until late evening to take them out walking with us - we walked 2-3 miles on average.

Some are more naturally fearful. These 3 were all related, so maybe it runs in lines as well?

And they pick up on our fears, so if you feel a bit freaked out or worried walking in the dark, they will definitely pick up on it.
I know this is an old topic but what do people do when their dog is afraid of the dark?

Chowder won't poop in the morning because it's to dark and at night she won't walk except 2-3 houses. Sounds and shadows scare her and she just gives up and starts pulling for home. She is truly scared

I live on a main st. so while there are tons of lights, there are also tons of sounds (cars, trucks, bicycles, motorcycles, etc) but the lights seem to make it worse with shadows and the inability to see where the sounds came from.
:headbang:
We do 2 things that really seem to help:
1: make sure the hair is pulled back and out of the eyes.
2: wear head lamps
have to agree with jennie, my guy was that way at times when young and after he hit me like a steamroller while playing, i cut his hair from his eyes the rest of his time without any night time vision problems. :D
