Irrational fears of the smoke detector

Rags always responds to sounds much more than the other dogs.
She is deathly afraid of thunder and fireworks.
I have this push button training device that emits a noise.
She will stop barking as soon as I press the button that has the word "No!" on it. The sound it makes almost sounds like a stungun... well at least what they sound like on TV. But no fear of this training device at all!!
The other dogs (Lacey and Pepsi) will just go on barking... lol
The could care less whatever button I hit on this thing, they just don't seem to hear it...
Anyhow back to the Smoke Detector, Almost everytime we cook in our oven, our smoke detector goes off, so this is a noise Rag should be used to.
But she's not and will freak out and shake and try to run away from the noise.
I got home this evening and Rags was under my computer chair curled up in a ball. When I sat down she curled around my feet. I asked Billy what was up with the Crazy Dog and he said he didn't know.
I realized he had the exhaust fan on and I asked if the smoke detector went off and he said yes, a few times.
She could not get closer to me if she tried.
Any suggestions on how to calm a crazy?

E,
Good question! Hey I am interested to find that out too.

You have met "Insane" Jane. She was the deaf dog I adopted from BONE. You know, the one who is not only NOT deaf, but is extremely sound sensitive. Her triggers are loud noises (thunder, fireworks, etc.) the sprinklers (they go off twice a day in the front and twice a day in the back - after 6 years you would have thought she would chill out about it!) and my personal favorite, the UPS delivery truck - not Fed Ex, not the mail man, not the trash trucks or any of the construction equipment, but just the UPS truck.

There is a reason I keep music or the television on in my home sorta loud all the time. It makes Jane's life easier.

BTW, we have already taken the fire detectors down. 8) No way this pack would let us sleep through a fire. They get too hot too easily!

Good luck!

I actually don't think that is an irrational fear. Those smoke alarms are pretty loud and high pitched. I don't think she would get used to it.

I also turned my off. My cooking is not great and they went off constantly. The alarms annoyed me as much as it scared the dogs :)
