HELP!!!!!!!! I just ate a WHOLE cake:(

Okay, I know I have terrible eating habits but this is getting insane. I bought a Pepperidge Farm cake and forgot to put it in the freezer, it thawed, I ate it. For dinner. The whole cake. I need to kick the sugar/fat habit and can't. It's like drugs for me :( . It's not a weight issue but I know I'm tired all the time and it's because of the way I eat.

I never eat meals, just snack all day. A typical day is 1/2 lb. of cheese, at least 2 candy bars(the big ones), a ton of chocolate chip cookies, some ice cream, more cookies..... The really stupid thing is I drink 4/5 bottles of Coke Zero every day, never regular Coke because of the calories  . Since I don't sleep well I always get up around 3 am for cookies or cheese cubes or chips. Someday I'll wake up and weigh 300 lbs.

I do buy fruit and healthier things but forget to eat them. I don't cook anymore since my husband can only have liquid or pureed stuff like soup. I don't really like meat but chicken is okay. How can I wean myself from all this junk? I seriously get withdrawal shakes without sugar and caffeine.

Holly, why don't you weigh 300 lbs. if you eat like that? :?

I thought I was sugar addicted but you take the cake.

Seriously, I always feel badly when I eat too much sugar.
Um, you forgot all the mini bags of chips. Those are pretty standard fare for you, too.

You are probably the worst eater out of everyone I know who isn't dead.
I just read some new research that links soft drink with increased consumption of calories especially sweet food. Even soft drink with artificial sweetener which was a surprise for the researchers.
They think (theory only) that drinking sweet tasting stuff makes us hungry for high calorie foods. Something to do with liquid and solid food in the stomach.
Also the caffeine from the coke may be keeping you awake. Maybe you could try cutting the coke zero first. One thing at a time is easier.
Wow, and I think I am a sugar junkie. When I have tried diets to see if it would help with my CFS, I would cut out sugar. Man is it hard. But I will say that if you don't eat sugar for a whole week, then all of a sudden you don't crave it. At least that was how it worked for me. You can use fruit as your sugar substitute so you still get that sugar taste.
Force yourself to eat a big healthy breakfast... it will curb the snacking for at least the first half of the day!
The healthy breakfast crap never works for me although I know it's the right thing to do. It makes me eat more. If I don't have my sweets, I just eat them after the breakfast which means I've had double the amount of calories.

My solution is just getting pregnant. Then you have an excuse and you get to wear those shirts that extend out like am umbrella. ;)
Still having the eating issues....darn! :(
I say pick one of the foods/beverages and cut it out. Sounds like totally eliminating it would be best. Then go from there.
I had good luck with the 100 calorie packs - I got the snacks I love, just smaller quantities. But, still need self control to not grab 3 of them!

The hard part will be retraining your taste buds to like regular food again. After all the goodies, real food is so boring!
Good luck Holly!
Holly, I feel your pain. I'm not a sugar junkie, but a salt junkie (like chips). I agree with others that you should start with small steps, like cutting out one thing. I say cut out the pop totally. No fizzy drinks. I've heard those can set off cravings. Then add the healthier foods like fruit and veggies. Just one a day and work your way up to more servings.

Good luck!

Ths is very true.
My husband is over weight. He stopped drinking pepsi first... (caffine)
Next he still had soft drinks like sprite. 5 a day.
that now is one a day. sometimes even brings home half full.
He drinks water if needed.
It seems the less sugar he has the less food he wants also.
He has decreased his intake to about 1/4 of what he had.
His weight is dropping slowly
he had to take his belt in 2"..

we are not making any big deal about food like we were.
When I cook a special meal we eat so much less.
Food bill is way down.

All started with reduction of sugar!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You realize you are looking diabetes straight in the face. I wouldn't be surprised if you are now at least partially insulin resistant. Your body is stopping responding to insulin thus the glucose is not being absorbed. Your glcose starved cells are telling your brain you need more sugar or carbs. Even worse, insulin resistance leads directly to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

Another cause of food cravings is adrenal fatigue. If you are under a great deal of stress, or suffer from insomnia or sleep deprivation, you are probably exhausted much of the time. This leads to adrenal fatigue or outright adrenal exhaustion, which in turn signals the body it needs a pick-me-up. You may resort to sugar or carbohydrate snacks or coffee during the day and carbohydrates or alcohol at night, all of which exacerbate the problem.

Can your doctor get you to a nutritionist? You need some serious vitamin rehab.....not just a One-a-Day and an eating plan. You may have to go to a 5 or 6 healthy mini meals a day to break the sugar cycle. Also a regular intense physical workout will help those insulin resistant cells start functioning again. The alternative is near future daily blood testing and insulin injections.....and all the medical problems associated with diabetes.( kidney failure, circulation shut down and amputation, blindness)

Heck, I no longer eat M&M peanuts for breakfast.......and it kills me my DH can eat chocolate cake and milk for breakfast without a problem (not daily of course).

Stop now.......before the damage starts piling up.
It's easy to say stop isn't it? I am also a sugar addict, although you wouldn't think it to look at me. I would happily eat candy bars all day, and fizzy drinks. I never feel full after a meal, no matter how huge it is I'm still hungry for sugar 5 minutes later. I think about sugary food more than anything else, in fact, almost constantly. Very frequently I can't get to sleep because I'm craving Ben & Jerry's or candy or thinking about what my ideal ice cream would be. It sounds silly, but it's really like torture. I've been like it since I was a child, I remember being about 5 or 6 and having the same problem not being able to sleep because I needed ice cream. My parents didn't keep any in the house.

I simply don't have it in the house now, the last few years I've not been able to afford to buy treats anyway, but as soon as I have a little money now, I want to go straight to the ice cream or candy shop. I limit myself to 1 treat a month (or when I'm really bad like last month, 1 treat DAY where I just eat sugary food all day) but I'm thinking of it constantly... literally.

I think the trick is to cut down slowly, and just know you CAN'T always have it. I don't let myself get depressed over it, but it does own me, no doubt :( I really feel your pain. I'm on a strict diet now because of health problems, I have intolerences of lactose and wheat, and have had allergic reactions to some fruit & veg recently so I'm working hard to keep my body healthy for the most part. I don't have any food with additives or preservatives, basically nothing packaged unless it's really basic like rice. I feel better than I have ever done, I hope you can find the strength to do the same :ghug:

People who have amazing 80 pound bodies don't understand....
ain't that the truth, Ron
Big hardy meals make we want a big hardy lunch.......OK, an hour or so later than usual. The exception is a belly busting brunch (as served at breakfast specialtiy restaurants)......they hold me to dinner which I usually skip or try to, otherwise something simple and very light.

Boo! I struggle with what I eat all the time... I *need* sugar after every big salty meal I eat. My metabolism is catching up to me too
I so feel for you...a few months ago I could have read this thread with a sense of smug superiority...having gotten away from sugar completely a while back...however...during my recent fair-from- hell, I fell off the sugar wagon...HARD

some of my neighboring booths included: deep-fried candy bars, funnel cakes, and (my hand to god...I'm not making this up) chocolate dipped bacon 8O

please dont judge me
How was the bacon?
That is disgusting. DI-SGUS-TING!!!

I don't think I've ever had a funnel cake, at least the type I see at fairs, etc.

Surprisingly yummy  in (yes Jo) a sort of disgusting way.

It kinda reminded me of choc. dipped pretzels...salty-sweet, and crunchy! Um...did I mention they also sprinkled on sea salt? 8)
OK, that's as close to the bacon as I want to get. I don't get the sweet/salt thing.

Funnel cake reminds of me of.....well never mind. I'll just take a doughnut instead. And no, don't want anyone messing with my candy bars.......Smores is the most adulteration I'll tolerate.

DH wanted a belly bustin' breakfast after swimming. Do you think I could be satisfied with a lady-like portion........I'm not a lady. Hey, I did not finish all the hash browns covered in red chile sauce and cheese........
Never would of thought of it---but the chocolate covered bacon could be interesting I think! :D
I am a sweet/salty lover!
I will keep my eyes open at the fair! Maybe it is a NEW fair-food! 8O
I love that once a year I can completely plan to 'pig-out' on fair food--eat things I would NEVER eat indoors!

I am a muncher too!
I love my Fritos...which will be dipping in Gaucamole soon! :D
BUT, a whole cake???
You go~
MY My ...and I guess yummy!
I just ate 3 whole cakes :bdcake2:  :!: and 3 more in oven
Here is what i do. I track my calories and my nutrition daily. I factor in stuff i want and never deny something. If you keep a log like that you are more likely to eat healthier. There is a great app from loseit.com that i use so i can take healthier choices when im out or you can just do it from your computer.

Oh by doing this with my regular exercise, ive lost 6lbs in a month and a week. Im 5'7" and 132lbs now.....
