Poodles? Seriously?

So we were on our walk last night and some guy drives by and nealy stops in the middle of the road to admire Oliver and Lucy (yeah, we're used it by now  ). When then hear him say to his passenger:

"Now those are the kind of poodles I like!"

Poodles 8O ? Seriously  ?

This is copied from one of my earlier posts, I certainly don't know every breed but a poodle and an OES :? Honestly what is with these people?

I had Zach at a rest stop several weeks ago and a woman approached me and said "that's the most beautiful POODLE I've ever seen" 8O . She wanted to know if he was a toy or a standard 8O :D 8O . Before I could think I blurted toy and that he was bloated because he just ate  . Zach is a solid 100 lbs and in full coat !
Some people are really stupid and it never cease to amaze me.
A poodle and a sheepie in full coat is quite a stretch of the imagination.
But I guess not everyone is into dogs 8O 8O
I put my foot in it recently at the offlead park when I asked if a small golden coloured dog was a clipped off pom.
He was a 8 month old schipperke and I thought they only came in black.
HaHaa. Yeah, before we got Edgar (and I wasn't much of a dog person) even I knew the difference between a poodle and a old english sheepdog. Edgar has been a poodle to some random people and it always offends Lee as he thinks poodles are sissy. And he doesn't have a sissy dog!!! :)
I've had several people think Brick was a poodle.
I guess because his coat gets curly when it grows out.
I don't see it. I can't see how somebody could mistake an Airedale for a poodle. They don't look anything alike.
I had someone once say what a good looking Weimeriner i had..........
 ...we've gotten the poodle remark SEVERAL times. It would make more sense to me [since I know people don't know breeds... my maltese was always mistake for a shih tzu] when the dogs are all curly and puppy cut, but ours always has long STRAIGHT hair.
 I'm sorry I have to chuckle.... a POODLE????? Hmmmmm .........

Just clipped?? Grey short haired.......hmmmm :lmt: .........

Jack is also a curl coat so yes, he is poodle-sk when I've failed to comb him out. hmmmm, maybe it's time for my OES with a show poodle hair cut experiment.....except there will be no pom-pom tail........no tail at all...unless I can fashion one from the longer hair 8)
I have been asked if Oscar is a goldendoodle, or a soft-coated wheaten terrier. 8O WHAT?????????? Never mind his coloring. Oscar is 117 lbs.!!

Laurie and Oscar
Let's assume his wife was trying to get him to get a poodle and he was making a positive comment about wanting a more manly dog
I have people ask if Jenny was a poodle, labradoodle and croton -- helloooooooo -- do you think before you open you mouth??? Even when cut maybe doesn't look like a sheepdog, but any of the other things I listed above? Oh well................
What do they think OES look like that they'd confuse them with other breeds........Coton.. only if your pup is flat on it's belly or curled into a ball.

Wheatie? If they haven't had a bath and have been playing in light brown dirt. 115 lbs Wheatie, yeah.
I flubbed one recently...I thought this woman had the biggest weaten terrier Id ever seen....he turned out to be a 15 week old bouviar! 8O I had no idea they came that color! :o

He was a cutie too! :hearts:

I swear, the only folks who ever correctly identify my dogs in anything other than full coat, are people who have owned sheepies in the past.

In rough order of frequency, we get asked if our dogs are : labradoodles, standard poodles, bouviars, PWDs, or the ever popular "So, what kind of a mix are these dogs?"
Yeah, I did something like that with a Briard.....almost. I caught myself and asked, "I'm not sure what your dog is.............???" Phew, I was thinking big black poodle because the tail and ears were down and the dog was curled up! Phew! Later I saw him out pulling a cart, do doubt Briard with the tail and ears!
this morning at the park a guy said oh nice OLD ENGLISH POODLES
I like when people ask if all my dogs are the same breed. I've actually starting asking "What about them leads you to think that conclusion?" because I love hearing the dumbest answers in the world.

I can live with people now knowing the names of dog breeds but I'm continually surprised by poor observational skills. I often wonder how many of them have "attention to detail" on their resumes?

:D :D :D

But I have to say I was thinking of you the other day when I read OES will cord if not properly groomed :lmt:
Where did you read that? It sounds like it was written by someone who didn't understand cording, lol. An OES will just clump and mat. Their coat isn't right for cording. I suppose if you severely neglected the coat, let it turn to one big may and then sliced each matt into a cord shape but it would just be a disgusting mess. Most coats that are cording type of coats are pretty good at staying mostly clean (save severe mud dunks!).
I was recently asked if Marley (35lb Wheaten) and Rudie (90lb OES mix) were the same breed.

We get asked if Marley is a doodle once a week.. people never know what the heck Rudie is :)

I recently had an encounter with a man who swore he had owned an OES at one time, who repeated the old wives tale about "dont pull/cut the hair out of their eyes" thing...but with the "explanation" that OES dont have eyelids! 8O :? 8O HUH? this guy actually had a dog without noticing it had eyelids??? :twitch: I wound up poking poor Bert in the eye trying to show him that they did.
We get the "what is that" question a lot, but this was our first poodle experience.

It's great on walks though, Oliver and Lucy are superstars. Kids literally watch for Oliver to come by so they can pet him...and yes, Oliver waits in their driveways if they are not already there  .
I feel your pain! I have recently given Bailee a "Trim" and he actually looks pretty good if I may say so even for a rookie trimmer. Just this morning as I was walking him we met a woman on her way to work. She stopped, told me what a beautiful dog I have (naturally) and then asked, "Is he a over-sized Poodle?" YIPES! A Poodle, a Poodle, anything but a Poodle! I thought I had him looking good, guess I was wrong.
I get asked OFTEN whether Violet and China are the same breed.

That is probably understandable. I would think they both bark with a British accent :)
