Shaving an OES...

Baxter is 11mths old and is going in for his first shave... He has matted terribly and I think his coat is going through the first transition.... He seemed to matt overnight ! No matter how much grooming we've done, the matts are there ! Bit of advice needed for his first shave - which is occuring a little earlier than we had originally planned (we were looking at mid October...) He has a tail... Is there any advice as to whether his tail should be left or shaved.... And the hair over his eyes... My last sheepie would be shaved and we would leave him with a fringe which I loved.... My partner wants to know whether that's the right thing to do !!! Good point really.... We do tie his fringe up into a ponytail and I think he looks gorgeous.... But I am really very sad that I need to have him shaved back.... Poor baby !!!! So fingers crossed they do a fabulous job !

I feel your pain on this one :) My year old is going next week for a puppy cut. She's been getting groomed regularly and I brush her daily but the mats have cropped up anyway. Part of it is because she was in the hospital a few days and got all tangled from the e collar and them taking blood, etc. I won't shave her to the skin but a short puppy cut is in order. If you don't want to shave down to the skin, maybe they can give her the "berber rug" look. Sort of like a crew cut but a little peach fuzz and looks really cute.

I give my dogs "bangs" around the eyes. Looks adorable.

Hair grows back so don't worry. She'll probably feel much better shorter anyway! Unless its cold on your side of the world now :)
I'd shave the whole dog down to about 1/2" and leave the tail just a wee bit longer than that, kind of tapering down. I don't like a sausage tail but I don't like a giant feather duster either. :)
Hi baxters mum, PM me and I will give you contact details for the OESC of SA to refer you to someone with experience that can puppy clip him down if you are not already a member?. If you are a member then PM me so I can give you contact details to the lady who is good at the clips especially with those waggy things.

Sometimes it is easier while they are transitioning coat to have a short puppy clip to make the grooming and less matting of them at that stage.

If you are around adelaide then not too far to go for a good pupper clip on him :D
