digging!

Summer has this new habit which is driving hubby mad! He has cleared a border in the garden and Summer has taken to digging a shallow hole and laying in it. Then say next day she will dig another one. Whether she likes the feel of the soil I dont know but it isnt helping her appearance!
Anyone else 's sheepie do this?

My first sheepie used to do that in my mom's yard. She dug a really big hole and then lay in it. If we filled it back up, she would just dig it again, so the hole was there for 12 1/2 years, until the day she left us for rainbow bridge.
Chewie's not the digger, but he's not above putting his entire face in the nice black soil... :(

Riley and Maggie DO dig.
I immediately fill the hole mostly full with dirt, then fill with a layer of dog poop, then cover lightly with the last of the soil and step onto it and pack it down. Mostly works. It doesn't stop them from picking a new spot the next day though!
Oh that wouldnt work! you have to pick dog poo up really quick from the garden cos... no wont mention it in case you are eating dinner!

I did have that thought - no poo eaters at our house :!:
If she continues and you can't break the fun - Build a sand pit a place where she can safely dig, and you don't mind! and coverable for the rain.

I totally agree with this one! You can also add to the fun and put in little toys for your OES to dig for. I've seen some people buy a children's sandbox and use that strictly for their digging dogs.
But beware - they also are very tempting for all the neighborhood cats....think GIANT litterbox...... :(
make sure it has a lid.
Charlie doesnt dig big holes but she lays in the soil and she try to eat the soil and everything around her mouth is just black!! ... a Sheepie thing I suppose???
dreams did it when he was a pup thanks godness he grew out of it i gave him a baby pool so he is in it instead
I read somewhere that dogs dig holes to lie in for comfort. By digging the soil it makes it softer and the soil below the surface is cooler too.
My Mum has just had to cover up the built in sand pit in her yard. Her poodle was using it as a ummmm shall we say "snack box" after all the neighbourhood cats had used it for something else. :P :x
Yep, right in front of the front steps. That way they can watch the street and what's happening in the house. Am thinking about removing 2 shrubs to give them more room, since they keep undermining them anyway. Also considered digging out some dirt and filling all with sand, but apple tree roots through out, ugly dig. So it remains and I have grey on grey sheepdogs.......or is it sheepdigs?
